InstaCap Double Feature: How to get Overwhelmed 2016-06-06 Off By Tom Pestak Live Thread: Cavs @ Warriors, NBA Finals Game 2 Recap: Golden State 110, Cleveland 77 (or, did Ty Lue just get himself fired?)
I wrote this before listening to Nate’s comments at the 13:00, I swear! We definitely share some thoughts on Love getting clobbered… — You know what? I feel the Cavs could have won that game, had Love not gotten shaken up like that and had to leave. Not saying we wouldn’t be able to win some games without him, but our game plan for that game surely was to win with him and adjusting to him not being out there is clearly when things took a turn for the worst in that game. I have to say that I heard… Read more »
Nice recap here, gents! Some thoughts on rotations for y’all to chew on as we await Game 3… Let me know if you see any flaws in my reasoning… One clear takeaway from Game 2 for me was that we (the royal we, the editorial we) should no longer say all the time LeBron “can play every position, 1 through 5.” Sorry, the quarter (3rd) where LeBron played center was an embarrassment defensively. And look, Richard Jefferson is a power forward like James Jones was a power forward in the playoffs last year, in the sense that he really isn’t… Read more »
And, btw, if Love is done for the series, I’d try a ‘grit’ lineup, and slop it up. Unlikely to work, but it’s not like the current approach has worked. Unfortunately, grit and Irving are oil and water.
Go Full Celtics on ’em?
Yeah….or last year’s Cavs Finals team, more or less…they have to play KI, though, and he’d be useless in that kind of game…
This is so Cleveland. The Cavs’ best shot at a championship in franchise history WOULD coincide with the rise of the greatest team ever. That IS what the Cavs’ best chance would have to go up against. Sigh.
THUD. That was the sound of another door being slammed shut on our faces.
I’ve had this feeling since about November. It suuuuuucks.
Gilbert paid the money too soon, when none of these guys other than Bron have done anything yet…. Although w. jR, not sure why he disappears in June….
Tonight was disgraceful ….i am calling cleveland cavaliers, Cleveland Cuitters ( as in quitters)
The postgame interviews are sad to watch.
Lue says they just need to “play better, play harder.” What about having an offense? Rotations that made sense? These international interviewers are asking awful questions, too.
At least TT admitted that the Warriors wanted it more than the Cavs. He looks absolutely demoralized.
Does someone ever ask the players substantive questions? Not just “what happened in the 3rd quarter tonight Kyrie?” [they hit their shots] and “How important is going back to home court?” [It’s important].
Those lines from Lue are just dumb. Granted he probably wouldn’t want to show his hand if he was going to make adjustments, but considering there was no change from game 1 to game 2, I don’t think he has a clue on offense, or possibly even worse, he can’t get his players to change.
Well, Lue’s players just quit tonight in 3qtr.. Shows me a lot about Lue and the players themselves… That is not a championship team…
They quit tonight
Lue is a joke. No fire. I like a coach w. Some fire. Just b.c. Lue is close w. bron doesn’t make him the right coach.
W. GS core and being young Lebron may never win another championship anywhere…
Maybe he goes somewhere else and form a diff Big 3. – not likely Love and Irving will get it done in the future. Love is soft…irving is a harlem Globetrotter guard not a legit NBA top tier guard.
I don’t think I’d completely judge the character of our players/coaches on what they say at the podium. I’m trying to be an optimist here and I think they maybe not want to spill some beans heading into the next game that’s why they answer like that on questions of adjustments or game plans (I’m talking about the losing team).. But yeah
Btw, can someone ban the ‘warriors fan’ tool trolling up the game thread?
He’s like the Warriors version of Cols
Nah, he ain’t dirt compared to Cols..
True. I just laughed when the Warriors Fan said they’d win Finals for 10 straight years – it sounded sort of familiar.
Similar, but at least Cols doesn’t post his nonsense to other team’s boards, as far as I know…
I remember after the drubbing they gave us just before Blatt was canned going on a rant about how this team just lacks heart. Nothing has changed. Jefferson, LBJ, Delly, Thompson, have heart. Kyrie does not. If he’s not angry as hell and bent on beating the crap out of the Warriors in Game 3, he’s a lost cause. I don’t know how anyone in the NBA, let alone on this stage, can let Curry go to the hoop and not punish him with a hard foul. I just don’t know how you can allow that to happen. Its embarrassing.… Read more »
I agree. The team must be able to guard all 5 to have a better shot at this. I’ve said this for months. We must play close to perfection on both sides. There are no other alternatives.
Tom on your 5:24 point.. Is the fear of injuries hindering this team to be physical? Especially to Kyrie?
I’ve heard that before. Possible. I don’t know if his conditioning is poor.
I don’t know.
I’ve been down on Kyrie since his sophomore year. I don’t see the point in piling on tonight.
Wow. If that’s reality I’d be hugely disappointed.
Good job, guys. I usually agree mostly with Nate’s takes, but I think he’s dead wrong about this Warriors team (if he believes what he’s saying, and not just putting on a bright face). I’ve been with Team Pestak since MLK day…that game showed me that this Cavs team is a terrible matchup for this GS team. 7 straight games now, and most of them haven’t been very competitive (and two historic blowouts). Cavs can’t really defend them, and GS is built to shut down almost everything the Cavs try to do offensively. Cavs might (MIGHT) win a game, but… Read more »
I’m only part way in to the instacap, but what seems obvious to me is that the Warriors are way way up in Cavs’ heads. Think about all the “uncharacteristic” stuff: LeBron turnovers, JR taking 6 shots, or Kyrie getting almost nothing at the rim. I do think the length of the Warriors–particularly in their second unit– is all kinds of bad for us, but we can’t even do well what we, you know, do well. I was ready to kill Lue for approaching this game so similarly to the last one (and similarly to the Raptors series) but he… Read more »
Damn, can these cavs at least try ? It is the Finals.
Nate is one sided eternal optimist.
GS is the beat team i have evr seen in my 50 yrs. cavs have no heart and no brains.
I dislike stephen a smith but he said it best tonight. Cavs have nothing behind their left chest. Cavs quit tonight. Lue is an amateur whose friendship with Lebron won the job over. Have you listened to Lue in post game conf?
Shameful, disgraceful, utter no show of anything resembling will to fight….
Uhh.. Nate is what? Well you never heard Cols enough I guess.
