I have no words
2011-02-15Also, Byron Scott says he’s figured out#Cavs (after admitting frustrated confusion in Sun’s loss). It’s all about defense, from now on.

IT IS FEBRUARY 15th. Every team in the league scoring at will on the Cavs and beating them for a month and a half didn’t trigger this realization? It took an extra loss at home to the Washington Wizards? I suppose I should be happy, because this is what needed to happen a long time ago. We’ll see if players who mail it in on the defensive end actually get held accountable from here on out.
Alex is dead to rights here. NO ONE is giving us a top pick for JJ…that’s completely accurate. WHY? Because the person on the other side of the table is point out the same flaws.
But Hickson is not worth a top 5 pick. The best we could get would be a late lottery pick outside the top ten. Personally, I would prefer him over the #12 pick in either of the next two years because he has already gone through the worst of his growing pains. He needs to be one of the pieces for the future and ideally the first forward off the bench in a few years. I think we need to keep JJ, Sessions, Andy, Boobie, Eyenga, and maybe Harris. Then surround them with the high draft pick over the next… Read more »
JJ has had a string of a few decent games and yes, he did have a highlight film block on Griffin. However, we can’t just ignore/forget how he has played this and last season and all of the sudden think he’s the next coming of Karl Malone. Mike Brown benched him last year and Byron Scott did the same this year, you don’t think there were plenty of good reasons for that? JJ has the IQ of a fourth grader, the worst hands of any PF, AND doesn’t put in consistent effort. I don’t believe his hands or IQ are… Read more »
I wish JJ had his head on straight.
Part of me feels that a fair share of JJ’s defensive shortcomings are highly exacerbated by him playing alongside Jameson. Also, I agree that he’d be better offensively with a good point guard. He still has Kwame Brown-esque hands, however.
Erik, I couldn’t agree with you more. I think people are generally on the “trade JJ” bandwagon just for the sake of making a move. He has his struggles, but he’s still so young. We all realize this is a lost season…so just finish it all up and let’s get to the draft.
Getting rid of JJ for a lottery pick won’t do us ANY good. I’m hoping the Cavs can trade back into the lottery…but they should keep JJ. Williams, Jamison, and Parker are the guys to deal!
Thank you keith… i am tired of people pining for jj to be traded for a draft pick. agreed, he struggles at times on the defensive end (okay, most of the time), but he has shown that he has what it takes to defend the post at times. (i.e. clippers blake griffin. yes he’s a rookie, but the dude can ball. yes he scored 30+, but i believe a lot of those were when hickson was not guarding him one on one). give jj a true point guard, and he is making “griffin-esque” highlights night after night. i strongly believe… Read more »
I really want to ask…why are people SO intent on trading JJ? The guy is young…he went toe for toe with Blake Griffin the other night.
Is he immature? YES
Does he struggle with effort at times? YES
The guy has been averaging a double-double the last few weeks without a true POINT GUARD or WING PLAYERS! If we were to get Andy back next to him and true players at the other positions…who are you gonna get in the lottery that’s close to JJ and we want to develop. That makes NO SENSE!
Does anyone think that if JJ puts up consistent numbers and maybe a few more highlight blocks, we could trade him for another team’s high lottery pick? Or is that a pipe dream?
John, I want to go back to an earlier question of yours – what do you hold Scott accountable for? I have been frustrated that Scott replaced the defensive system in addition to the offense this year. The offense I get – he’s a Princeton coach. To take this inexperienced team and have it change both offensive and defensive schemes in the same year seems like a bad risk. The defense was one thing working under Mike Brown, and even with the losses of the off-season, I think the system has intrinsic value. Every team gets hurt during the year,… Read more »
John, I get the point, but what is the man supposed to do? Who is he going to hold accountable? THE WHOLE TEAM?? He can’t bench Hickson for Hollins, because HOllins mails it in. He can’t bench Mo for Sessions, because Sessions mails it in too. They whole team mails it in on defense. He is admitting he has to TEACH EFFORT on defense. That’s insanity. He has an entire roster of players who are lazy on defense. Yes, I would rather blame the entire roster than Byron Scott, because it’s the players which are at fault.
