Links to the Present: “No need for a Knick to take down a Warrior” Edition
2017-01-21
So I’m not going speak much about the terrible spanking that happened on Martin Luther King Jr. Day between the Cavs and the Warriors, other than the major storylines that we couldn’t have missed if we tried.
I’m sure Cavs fans expected there to be another Draymond Green incident at some point. Green answered the call by blindsiding LeBron during a transition opportunity, sending King James sprawling to the hardwood. While some questioned whether the play was as dirty as it looked in real-time or if LeBron had embellished the contact a bit, Coach Lue determined there was no question surroundiung Draymond’s intent:
Said Coach Lue
“He didn’t want LeBron to get in the open court and get a dunk or a lay-up. He took a hard foul. He wanted to send a message to our team.”
Even after Green crashed into James it was obvious he was trying to make a statement when he was mocking James’ flop to Warriors fans. We get it Draymond, you relish being a villain and you have no qualms about disrespecting the Champs – you keep on doing the hot-headed thing, we’ll see who it benefits in the long run.
Other than that incident, you couldn’t miss how the Cavs’ 3-point shooting was just WAY off while the Splash Brothers each drained five 3s. As if that wasn’t enough, Andre Iguodala made all seven of his shots and even converted both of his free throws. They’re a team with great shooters and ball movement and they brought the pain against the Wine and Gold.
Thankfully, it was only one game. The Cavs got back in the Win column with a home victory over the Suns and now have the opportunity for a quality win against the perennially dominant San Antonio Spurs – which would certainly help wash away the stain of the drubbing at the hands of the Dubs.
After holding a 4-0 record against The Warriors since the Finals and lacking a Smith and a Love, it was natural the Warriors would punch back with a vengeance. It may have been brutal, but it was only one game and it won’t mean anything once playoff time is here.
In other news:
I’m tired of hearing all this talk about Carmelo Anthony coming to Cleveland. As I scroll through my twitter feed, all I see is “Carmelo going to the Cavs,” or “Anthony to unite with his good friend James?”.
No.
That’s really all that needs to be said, but I guess I can explain why I feel that way.
So if you’re not on social media or haven’t seen anything on TV, it has been rumored that Carmelo Anthony may be ready to discuss a trade from his long-time team, the Knicks. Now this is just rumored, not set in stone.
In a quote that came from Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Anthony said:
Carmelo: "If they feel like my time in New York is over I guess that’s a conversation we should have."
— Frank Isola (@TheFrankIsola) January 15, 2017
According to FoxSports, it was said that Anthony favored three teams if he did get traded, the Cavs, the Clippers and the Bulls.
If you ask me, he does not need to come to Cleveland. I have two reasons: first, with the new addition of Kyle Korver, The Cavs have more than enough shooting and scoring prowess. There is no need for someone with Anthony’s skill set. Secondly, if Cleveland did get Anthony, it would most likely mean they traded Kevin Love. With Kev playing better and better as he gets more comfortable in his role each day, it would not be a favorable swap going forward.

I WILL GAMBLE ON LOVE’S ABILITY TO STAY SOMEWHAT HEALTHY FOR THE NEXT 5 YRS VS CARMELO’S TO BE PRODUCTIVE / HEALTHY / HAPPY FOR EVEN THE NEXT 2 YRS
Realistically, does Love have five or six more healthy years in him? He’s really injury prone.
Since entering the league in 2007, Love has been more resilient than I thought. Love has played between 55-81 games, except the year he was injured (2012-2013). And the 55 games played in 2011-12 was somewhat of an outlier as Love’s other years have averaged 60-81. The last three years, KLove has played 77/75/77 games respectively. His back does act up, but for the most part, he has toughed it out. At 28, I think Love does indeed have 4-5 very good years in him.
Love for Anthony will never happen. A colossaly stupid trade that the Cavs would never make.
RAOUL–YES I AM A COACH( 30+ YRS . ) AND YES I HAVE BEEN CALLED AN ” IDIOT ” BY MANY PARENTS OVER THOSE 30 + YRS —SO 1 MORE ” IDIOT ” VOTE —NO BIG DEAL —GO CAVS !!
Sorry about that. World politics has get me in a crappy mood. But, I do disagree.
you’re the best NOMAD. That’s for making our comment section great!
Melo and Dwight Howard are my least favorite players in the entire league.
Everything is awesome. Unless we get Carmelo for draft picks or Cedi, we don’t need him.
Mellow isn’t an answer to anything, he’s another problem I’d take any number of players over him including a healthy Kevin Love who’s much younger.
Also Durant is scary effecient this year and Klay gets so many open looks at 3 pointers, he’s actually shooting below par for him I think, that’s terrifying. Cavs can score with this team when they are clicking though, gotta push the pace though, Warriors have weakness on defense, they hide it well with switches and swarms, pushing the pace exposes them.
eh. frauds
Watching the Rockets/Warriors game on recording. Athletic bigs give the Warriors fits on the offensive glass. Obviously we have one of the best in Thompson and that’s a hard piece to find, but it’s worth mentioning as it is a rare weakness in a juggernaut team.
YEAH EVEN THE PLAYERS / COMMENTATORS OFTEN SPEAK ABOUT WHEN ” THE REAL ” SEASON ( PLAYOFFS ) START —- UNDERSTAND WE HAVE THE REGULAR ( ARTIFICIAL —BORING ) SEASON FOR THE T.V. MONEY —BUT AGREED IT ID DIFICULT TO WATCH AT TIMES
NOMAD, aren’t you a coach? This rap sounds like something an idiot would say, not a coach.
Carmelo would look awfully good in a Celtics uniform…time to trade all thoss ‘assets’, Danny…I’m sure Thomas and Horford can talk Carmelo into Boston…
The only way Carmelo could wind up on the Cavs is if the Knicks buy him out, and he signs for the minimum.
It was this time last year that I started tuning out from this team. The NBA regular season has become an absolute joke.
AGREED NO WAY IN HELL DO I TRADE A YOUNGER / MORE TALENTED LOVE FOR AN OLDER / DIMIINISHING SKILLS ANTHONY —–YES IT WOULD DO THE CAVS PSYCHE GOOD TO GET A QUALITY WIN AGAINST THE SPURS TONIGHT
