Podcast Episode 121: “There’s a New Sheriff in Town.”
2017-02-01Despite the lonesome feel of the dusty trail that is the NBA regular season, CtB rustled up a posse of Tom Pestak, EvilGenius, and Nate Smith. They had plenty to talk about as they recapped a lousy Cavalier January. We chewed the cud over LeBron’s comments to Dave McMenamin regarding Charles Barkley’s comments on Inside the NBA. Was LeBron justified, was Barkley? Was it excessive? Who’s gonna win this showdown?
We asked what’s ailing the Cavs (transition defense was a big one). Does David Griffin get a pass or fail? Should Cleveland take Nate’s crazy advice and trade for Melo? Are we overreacting when we put out a warrant for this team’s defense in January? Why is Tyronn Lue going all Hatfields and McCoys with the media? Who gets voted out of Cavalierville? What’s the Cavaliers greatest need? And, the highlight, we giggle like 12-year olds while doing Campy Russell impersonations.
Also, who’s gonna be stranger in these here parts after the Cavs work out a few points guards?
Listen above, on BlogTalkRadio, Google play, or iTunes.
Finally got around to watching the 16 points in 2 minutes clip. I’m pretty sure Austin Carr was drinking. Just awesome.
The OA was good for 6 episodes. But the last two are so brutal that I’m not sure the first six were even worth it. You’ve been warned. It was a waste of time if you ask me.
I had Staples commercials this time.
Still an interesting watch IMO… not like it’s a ton of time to commit either…
I guess. But the payoff is so so bad. It was interesting, for six episodes. Plus there is some brief nudity which is always fun.
So you guys think popovich is a better leader than LeBron?? Has Popovich ever been to six. 6!!!!!!!!!! SIX. Straight finals. Do you look at evidence ever?
If Pop was coaching the East all this time, he might have been in 9 straight finals…
.. and few more championships.
During Lebron’s peak, the top 5 players other than Lebron all played in West.
Next time Popovich is able to get his teams to six straight Finals we can have this conversation, until then LeBron is the ultimate leader of men.
I think LeBron himself thinks Pop is a better leader than LeBron…
Interesting but do you guys think LeBron is pushing Melo behind the scenes to try and screw Phil Jackson even more?
I kinda think that getting rid of Melo is jackson’s #1 priority
The TT for melo thing is happening. I’m telling you.

No way. Here is a way more agreessive idea that will never happen but I really think benefits all 4 teams. Cavs get Paul George and Rubio Pacers get Shump and Irving, and a top 12 protected pick from the Wolves this year. top 5 next year Twolves get Thad Young. Cavs lose a little shooting but gain a ton of defense. Rubio, George, Bron, Love, and TT would be an incredible unit on both sides of the ball. George is only 26 so we don’t lose much that way. Pacers probably say no. But they aren’t doing anything with… Read more »

No way the Cavs should do this without getting thad young.
Not sure that actually makes this team better. We lose yet another true big and our only rim protector. We gain yet another ball dominant guy that needs the ball in his hands and who would no doubt start. Where are the shots coming from for LBJ, Irving, Anthony, and Love? Makes no sense. The reason golden state works is that Thompson plays off ball primarily, Green doesn’t need a ton of shots to be effective, Curry can play off ball just as effectively as he can with the ball because of his gravity, and Durant is such a good… Read more »
Boy I am tired. By not bench units, I mean starting unit.
Based on Melo’s comments, he doesn’t want to move because his son and wife are comfortable in NY. So, only place he might move to would be Brooklyn. Which means, he pretty much gave up on his career and just want to withdraw checks.
Even this year that trade is bad. As Melo further declines and TT never misses a game, the trade will become the Cav’s “Curse of Rocky Colovito”.
Melo is a classic example of a guy who scores a bunch of points and prevents his team from winning. And he would use up all the money. Nobody should take him unless he comes with about five #1 draft choices.
+1. Best to stay away from Melo unless you want him to come off bench and play in limited role.
LeBron is 72-20 in the EC playoffs over the last 6 years.
And he was 42-28 the previous five… what’s your point?
Great discussion on many topics. Liked the Campy Russell riffs. Love Campy. Russell is indeed in great shape and he is 65. I think he is thinner than even his playing days. Met him at an Wine&Gold event a few years ago, and you are right, Campy is such an engaging personality. One thing that cracks me up is when his sidekick Jeff Phelps makes an observation and throws it back to Campy, Russell invariably says, “Jeff, you are absolutely right !” Just once I would like Campy to stun Phelps and say, “Jeff you are full of s**t.” And… Read more »
hahaha. Yes. It’s always “Jeff, you are absolutely right.”
BTW, I meant to add that the commercials I heard on the last two podcasts were for Geico. One of you asked us to say what we were hearing. I think there were 4 short Geigo spots on this podcast.
I haven’t heard any commercials.

Totally off topic, but anyone know why Jason Lloyd’s twitter was deleted?
Seems up to me.

Thanks he changed his handle, it was JasonLloydABJ before
Trade for Melo? I might trade the Mamba for Melo and a couple draft picks. Then cut him before he screws up the team, and use the roster spot for a FA.
Only Mamba. I’m keeping the picks.
Rocking my CtB Tee at tonight’s game! Thanks Nate!
Have fun JMay. Counting on you to get that assist total up.
Don’t worry, I’ve got great court vision. Played PG on my rec league team at OSU, so no worries.
DON’T HAVE TIME TO LISTEN TO PODCAST —-SOUNDS LIKE A ” DON’T MISS ” SEGMENT —WILL TUNE IN LATER
CAVS LOOKING AT POSSIBLY GETTING RID OF BIRDMAN’S CONTRACT ALSO CREATING ANOTHER SPOT —- I WOULD GO EITHER CHALMERS AND STEPHENSON —OR WILD DARK HORSE –CHALMERS OR STEPHENSON AND LARRY SANDERS

If President Stevens can’t get to him, he’s hopeless…
You mean… this guy?
Do you have this image saved on your computer, EG? Haha
It was my screen saver for the better part of December…
Chalmers, Farmar, or Stephenson, who you got?
Listen and find out.
I’m scared the podcast will infuriate me with all the hot takes. Should I listen or will it enrage me?
Well, let’s see. We criticized LeBron, we talked about January and how it sucked, we kinda took Barkley’s side in the LeBron v Barkley beef. I kinda took Phil Jackson’s side in the LeBron v Jackson beef. Nate wanted to take LeBron’s side in the LeBron v Yogi Ferrell beef, but alas, LeBron doesn’t have any beef with players on other teams, just ones on his own team and former players. We talked about how great the Spurs are. I don’t think it’s a “cols lights himself on fire”-level podcast but maybe stay away from any lighter fluid just in… Read more »
If the Cavs played the Spurs in the Finals it would be an easy 4-1 victory.
You’ll probably like the Melo trade scenarios.
Do we need to start putting trigger warnings on these?
Any chance of getting these pods on Google Play? Don’t know what that process is, just curious.

Thanks Nate! Subscribed. Will listen as soon as it goes up.
Yeah it takes a few hours for the feed to update, annoyingly.
