Podcap: Cleveland 132, Indiana 117 (or, Threezus and Friends)
2017-02-09To sum up: The Cavs let CJ Miles and the Pacers get loose in first quarter (70% shooting/36 points); got down by as much as 15; closed the gap to end the half; then came out and dropped 40 to 18 on Indy in the third; Korver went nuts (10-12, 8-9 from three for 29 points); Cleveland let Indy get within seven late in fourth then turned on the Threezus jets.
Nate Smith and EvilGenius get as raucus as two middle aged guys can as they recap the Cavs victory over the Pacers and the incendiary play of the Cavs’ offense of late. The cover Korver and his 29 points (a lot better than Indiana did), his 108 TS%, LeBron’s gaudy assist totals of late (25, six, and nine dimes vs Indy), Kyrie mid-ranging (12-17 inside the stripe Wednesday for 29 points and seven dimes), the free throw resurgence (24-26!), Kevin Love’s freebie mastery (22-23 in the last three games), the Cavs second half rebound (literally and figuratively) – Cleveland was outrebounded 23-15 in the first half and went on to win the battle of the boards 39-38.
Other topics include: DeAndre’s D, the epic victory over the Wiz; Kay Felder, world’s greatest miniature screen setter; the Carmelo Anthony kerfuffle; will Cleveland make a move; the missed Lance Stephenson opportunity; @CavsDan’s penny pinching; the January blues; and so much more. Shows on my list to watch:
Santa Clarita Diet
Stranger Things (started but got distracted by westworld and sports)
Legion
The Expanse
The Americans new season
Legion is awesome…
Stranger Things was stellar. And has an absolutely excellent soundtrack.
The Expanse is awesome. First couple episodes are a little slow but after that it really takes off.
Why is there a Ben Werth section at the end of the podcast that seems like a repeat.
I want to try the expanse. So eat
Argh. That is ticking me off.
Amico said the Kicks were also interested in D-Will
http://amicohoops.net/report-cavs-sign-williams-to-10-day-deal/
That is kind of enouraging, that a former team would want him. He played pretty well with the Knicks & their version of James/Love (Melo/Zinger) last year.
In terms of RJs replacement. I think Cedi Osman is the hope. D-Will the short term. Hopefully they stick.
On Korver, he isn’t an idiot. In three years he can still = JFJ.

Cavs need to get rim protector for the bench this summer. When RJ retires, they need to replace him with an athletic wing defender like PJ Tucker or Justin Anderson. If they want to get backup pg, so be it, but I’d like to watch Felder develop. Otherwise, I love our roster.
Good podcast. When I took my earpods out they were covered in ear stuff for some reason. I’m surprised that Nate doesn’t go watch Canton. Seems right down his alley.
Did we blow your mind so much it was coming out your ears?

It was a mainly positive podcast!
They’ve been mainly fun to watch the last few games… coincidence?
Been awhile since I have had time to post here. I am sure none of you missed me except Cols :) DWill will be fun to watch, but hard to see him make major impact. Would be amazing if he could suit up tonight. We need him! Can’t wait for the playoffs when JR is back, Shump is healthy, Korver is even more integrated, Kyrie starts trying harder on D, and LeBron kicks it up a notch! Will roll through East, and probably beat Ws again. It’s almost like LBJ gets bored every January and needs to stir the pot… Read more »

Haha. Thanks E.G. and Cols! Work has been killing my posting time, but I hope to make a comeback to the Commentariat for the playoffs. I am like the JR Smith of the Commentariat — looking to peak in May.
AGREE –TOTALLY SUCKS ABOUT JABARI ……JUST READ A GREAT ARTICLE IN SPORTS ILLUSTRATED ABOUT THE (MAYBE ) NEXT BASKETBALL PRODIGY —–15 YR OLD—NICO MANNION —GREAT READ !!
Question. Can I get NBA league pass without having cable? Is there a roku app?
Pretty sure they have chromecast support. Chromecast’s are pretty useful. I don’t pay for cable either but use my chromecast to watch almost everything.
I really despise my chromecast.
You do? Is it an older generation?
Yes. I got it for like $9 or something. I like the roku stick I got a year or so ago so much better.
They started offering it through Playstation VUE also…
The last game system I owned was an atari 2600. Although I have a raspberry pi to emulate old systems. I suck at new games. Why is there a “p” is rasberry?
You would be a good candidate for an Alexa…

I get it free with verizon
KLove missed some games recently with back spasms. He’s played with DWilliams in Minnesota. How ’bout giving LeBron and perhaps Kyrie the night off, but have KLove play in OKC?
Sad news out of the Bucks’ camp. Parker out for 12 months with ANOTHER torn ACL on the very same knee. Really feel for the guy. Hard to get a career going with issues like that… feel for the guy.
Man. That sucks. Dude was playing well too.
Dammit. I just heard this too. That really sucks.
Man… that’s terrible. You could tell it was pretty serious just by looking at the play…
Sad. On the game they got Middleton back, too.
DW might have one of my favorite nicknames ever… mostly because I know where this place is since I live near it in California…
Derrick Williams is… The Whole Enchilada from La Mirada… genius

La Mirada is the home of the Biola U Fighting Biologists!
OK, my first reaction was, this wasn’t the D-Will I was looking for (FFS, how do you post a picture here? I can’t get it to work). On second thought, I think it is worth a shot. First, the only SF/PF types we have, other than James, are 36 years old (RJ, JFJ). Either could retire. If not, 1 more year max. JFJ can’t play much as it is. RJ is averaging 20 mpg as it is (too high). Yes, we have Cedi in the pipe. That doesn’t help this year & is no sure thing & I don’t see… Read more »
Nice take
All good points… although I think he’s shooting just 20% from three this season in limited action… I also don’t think his defense is all that bad. Agree it’s not a bad shot to take… just wonder if he’ll get enough opportunity (outside of tonight where he’ll definitely play if eligible), with only four games left before ASB and subsequent trade deadline…
I like the DW signing. No downside and plenty of upside if he can be anywhere near his numbers for the Knicks last year.
This will never happen, but how ironic would it be if something finally clicked with DW here on the Cavs? He’ll probably never be a good shooter outside of 15-17 feet, but if he could become a solid minutes eater behind LBJ…
Let’s make 2011 great again!
Yep.
I’m tellin’ ya, my money is on him becoming the true 2nd overall pick. Best 10-day pickup ever!
Have three of the top four in a single draft ever wound up on the same team before?
It’s weird to sign a 10-Day when there’s only seven days left before the ASB… right?
The fewer days you have to play DWill, the better, probably…
Good point… although it’s not really getting their money’s worth since they have to pay tax on the 10 day…
Is the 10 day clock running while the league is in shut down for the ASB?
Time to integrate and get assessed as well as practice with the squad. I actually like the timing.

Deadspin is blocked by our Internet Safety… zzz… Wish I could read the article lol
I’ve never heard of that… do you live in a communist state JMay?
Fascist state…
I thought communist = censorship, and fascist = propaganda?
Haha I work in a school.
It’s probably the website’s name that is getting flagged.
DW played in 80 games for the Knicks last year… he’s pretty durable at least…
COLS GOOD RESEARCH—GRAB YOURSELF A ” CITRADELIC “
KORVER– “THREEZUX ” JUST INDICATING ALTHOUGH HE IS A FREE AGENT THIS SUMMER –HE WOULD LIKE TO RESIGN WITH THE CAVS …..” WHO WOULDN’T WANT TO PLAY WITH THE BEST …HAVE GROWN TO LIKE IT HERE “
See. Everyone. Everyone loves playing with LBJ.
You’ve hit your quota on that comment…
Nuts. I suck.
Quit saying “I suck”, or we are going to send you to a child psychiatrist.
Just realized why they signed DW if they’re resting LeBron tonight, he may start… They need the body.
We now have Irving, TT, Shump, Liggins, and Williams from that draft.
DID NOT KNOW THAT NATE —-AM GLAD TO HEAR
Entertaining podcast, guys. I had the same reaction when I saw 5’9″ Felder setting as many screens as his six played minutes last night. Not quite as good as Korver scoring more points than minutes played. Maybe we are planning on having Felder layout Curry like DeAndre Jordan did, so he is practicing his technique. If Liggins play last night doesn’t get him 10-12 consistent minutes per night nothing ever will. Two awesome steals to begin quarters, and as you pointed out, the steal to begin the third jump started that 40-18 run.
Haha. Curry is so miserable on defense. He’d fall down and pout.
I would like to see Felder be the team’s designated tough guy. Next time Draymond or some other dork puts a hard foul on a Cav, the KS should charge him and do his best for a knockout punch; get suspended for a game or two. The image of getting punched out by a guy a foot shorter cannot be unseen!
ALSO THIS IS R.J’S LAST YEAR—MAYBE THIS IS DERRICK’S ” 10 DAY WORKOUT ” TO SEE IF HE CAN FILL R.J.’S ROLE NEXT YEAR….JUST SAYING
RJ is signed through next season…
Goodwork on getting a podcast up. I need some optimism in my life.
The problem is that Williams has mostly sucked.
This is the sticky note I imagine Cols would leave on Derrick Williams’ locker…
?fit=528%2C400&resize=350%2C200
Funny, I have that hanging in my kitchen.
Lol
Nate, we have for SGs: JR, Shumpy, Korver, and Liggins. At SF we have LBJ, and Jefferson. I think they liked the size of Williams more the Lancelot
Lance can play the point, which is the point.
Williams helps with athleticism, defense (he can guard 2-5), rebounding, and getting to the hoop. Could work out.
He brings no defense. At all.
no defense and no passing. Can score, that is all he can do.
Do you go on other teams boards and criticize their 10 day contract guys?
only warriors and cavs. Also said how he adds value to Cavs.
Are there lots of Cavs fans on the frontrunning fraud site?
Shut up Cols.
NOMAD
The only person who thought the Cavs should draft Williams was Simmons. Everyone else was on board the Kyrie train early. As for Grant, I don’t think he even ever considered Williams over Irving.
The Cavs are destroying teams while missing their top two shooting guards. I like it.
This is hopefully. I agree. Who said last night that the Battleship was close to being fully operational? It indeed seems so. Might be what KK was eluding to when he said he was excited for what was about to come. Perhaps the Death Star is rounding into form. Though I much prefer the Rebel Alliance as I am about to tattoo it onto my forearm haha
Haha
I believe it was the Emperor…

Signing Derrick Williams is obviously a gamble, but it is high potential payoff and low risk. William’s career being a dud is a lot different than that of GumDrop Bear. GDB doesn’t have much talent, so there is nothing anyone can do. I am not sure what the problem has been for DW (anyone know?), but attitude is likely to be part of it, and that is something that SOMETIMES improves as you get older. One can hope that if LeBron tells him to get straight and fly right, he might listen. Otherwise, maybe Charles Oakley will give him a… Read more »
I see Derrick’s value as a 3rd stringer when Cavs lead by double digits, score couple of baskets and let Lebron rest for couple of more minutes.
Whatever.
Reminder, you said you will stay away from responding to my posts.
Hey! Now your starting to pester Cols. I’m about to make the both of you go to your room for ten minutes.
Doesn’t really matter, just a warm body to eat minutes, doubt he’s the answer to anything, just another body while waiting for Shump and hopefully JR.
MAYBE THEY WERE A LITTLE CONCERNED WITH LANCE ” WHISPERING ” SKILLS ——DERRICK PLAYED WITH LOVE AT MINN.—-HAS ARIZONA ALUMNI ( R.J./ CHANNING ) — JUST WATCHED SOME OF HIS HIGHLIGHTS—IF NOTHING ELSE HE BRINGS THE ATHLETIC PACKAGE WITH HIM —-HOPING HE EMBRACES / GRABS ON TO THIS OPPORTUNITY AND CAN BE OF SOME HELP
Cripes. Pass on Lance to sign Williams? That seems tone deaf.
Why? Lance is mental. Williams might suck but at least he won’t mess up the chemistry of this team. Grit and heart baby.
If Williams had grit and heart he’d have stuck somewhere by now.
I am going to agree with Cols on this one.
I don’t think there is any question that Williams is a better bet than Lance, for several reasons, including:
1. The Cavs are highly likely to still pick up another guard, there are a lot of options.
2. Williams is not a head case.
3. Williams has a higher ceiling.
4. The Cavs need someone who can play some of LeBron’s minutes VASTLY more than a guard.
Was thinking the same thing. Here’s to hoping they know something we don’t. Sure would be nice if he finally played like a proper 2nd overall pick during this 10-day contract.
Once again, this board continues to amaze me in their lack of faith in Griffin. Every move he made is met with extreme skepticism and then works out. Just 5 days ago Nate was calling out Griffin for trading Dunleavy for Korver.
HAVE SOME FAITH
I do have faith. However, my faith isn’t blind faith. I believe that they do indeed know more than lowly little me. However, Griff is not perfect, nobody is.
Griffin is close to perfect. The only GM to bring a title to Cleveland since 1948 (presuperbowl browns Donotcount).
It doesn’t have to be blind faith. But maybe say something positive about it before kneejerk criticizing it.
Why? You knee jerk criticise us.
When do I ever knee jerk criticize you?
Well, this is pretty much always.
That’s good comedy…
Are you drinking too much beer this morning with that comment? You criticize Ctb posters more than probably everyone else put together.
I did say something positive. If you look below I said that I was glad that Griff was starting to open up to 10-day contracts. They are low risk options for relieving minutes.
Pre-Superbowl era Browns were a dynasty and Jim Brown is still a top five all time player… Go pound sand Cols…
Yeah when there was 3 teams in the league and they had leather helmets the Browns were great. Too bad once they merged the Browns sucked. Only post-Super Bowl era counts.
None of those things are true… Saying the Browns’ titles pre-Superbowl don’t count is like saying the Celtics championships in the 60’s don’t count… Extremely bad take on your part…
I think the Browns were undefeated for a couple years in whatever league they were in before the NFL. When they got admitted to the NFL (1948?), they broke an unwritten rule by showing up with four black players, including Marion Motley. They won the first game (against defending champ Eagles) in a blowout, totally dominated the 50’s, and were still the best team of the 60’s. Things turned for the worse when Art Modell bought the team. He was half as bad as James Dolan is for the Knicks. Modell’s biggest problem was that he could not afford the… Read more »
Agreed. What is the downside, again? This 10 day expires pre-trade deadline. I’d think an Andersen move is close (1 more spot , perhaps 2).
We need to get younger & more athletic & add some frontcourt depth. Check. Check. Check. A PG he is not. A rim protector he is not. Still, a PF/SF who could spell Love & James & RJ he could be. He is not much of a 3PT shooter (29.3% career). However, shooting is the one thing we don’t lack. I also saw he was 36% on corner 3s & is decent from mid-range.
Wait, Nate called out the Korver deal? He should get roasted for that, if true.
We’ll see. Hope it works. Just felt like positionally Lance was a perfect fit.
LBJ probably just doesn’t care for Lance much…
I to wanted Lance, but who knows what kind of guy he really is in the locker room. Can’t put a price tag on chemistry.
THAT IS IRONIC—-FEW YEARS BACK WE WERE “AGONIZING ” WHOM TO DRAFT 1ST—KYRIE OR DERRICK—WE GOT THAT ONE RIGHT—-GOOD TO HAVE SOME NBA EXPERIENCE THOUGH –AND WHO KNOWS –HE MAY HAVE LANDED AT THE RIGHT SPOT IN HIS CARRER WHERE HE CAN UTILIZE HIS SKILLS AND BE A CONTRIBUTOR
Cavs apparently to sign Derrick Williams? Good to see Griff finally opening up to some 10-days.
Williams is brutal, and kind of a moron, but he’s a body, I guess…
