Links To The Present: “Irving’s Going To Change The World One Day, And He Doesn’t Even Know It.”
2017-02-18
“The crowd in Brooklyn is captivated. Little kids stare in awe. Fathers try to capture their smiles on smartphones. Grown men watch with unwavering attention. There’s no show like The Kyrie Irving Show.”
Max Resetar, an Assistant Editor at SLAM, couldn’t have put it into words any better in his article speaking on behalf of Kyrie Irving and how the talented 24-year-old is one the NBA’s hottest players today. Ever since he shot the shot that changed his life, it’s made him realize why he plays the game and has even given himself and The Cleveland Cavaliers such a great start in this new season.
In the article Resetar spoke about Kyrie’s start in the NBA and how much he’s grown since. Having a genuine soul, a love for the game and a great work ethic has brought Irving to the top. Being an Olympic gold medalist, a three-time, (now four) NBA All-Star and a Champion says it all when he battles alongside the greatest NBA player today.
In the article, Irving explains to that throughout all the glory the NBA offers, especially after becoming a Champion, he feels that he’s just now finding his place and reminds himself why he plays the game..
“It all comes from the love that I have for the game,” he says. “I love everything about it. I had to realize that about myself. I did a checklist of the reasons why I was playing this game. I was just like, OK, you do it for eventually being MVP. You do it for being an All-Star. You do it for winning a championship. You do it for your teammates. You do it for your family.”
He also stated that as a player who loves the game, you have to love all the work and headaches that come with it.
“I found that in my quest of figuring out who the fuck I wanted to be,” he continues. “Who I am—figuring out who I am as an individual. On that journey along the way, I just had to figure that out. Everything in my life, if I’m not loving to do it, loving to be a great brother to my sister, loving to be a great son to my dad, loving to be a great father for my daughter. I gotta love all those things. So I’m giving it everything that I have inside of me. I had a clear conscience after that.”
And someone like that is what makes the NBA great. Someone who keeps it real, someone who is humble game on and off the court is what gives kids — like the one’s in Brooklyn or even across the world — the true meaning of what basketball really stands for.
Irving is a phenomenal player who simply respects the game and knows what’s important to him. He has conquered so much, and still strives to grow. Although he is still growing at such a young age, Irving’s talent and determination has put a lot to his name — like a four-time NBA All-Star or Uncle Drew. He knows it and we all know that the run in the 2016 playoffs was just the beginning of his NBA career and there is plenty more in store.
I mean, isn’t this enough? Notice how Irving gives it his all, especially in playoff time. Clearly this magician deserves to be an All-Star, a future a league MVP, maybe even a future president. Why not? Anyways, you get the point.

- With Kevin Love now out for six weeks due to knee surgery, what does this mean for the Cavs? In Wednesday’s win against Indiana, James, Irving and Korver finished out hot without him into All-Star break. Look at Love’s message to his teammates he would have been joining over the weekend.
- The wait for JR’s return is getting shorter and shorter. Watch as he shot around at Wednesday’s game against the Pacers.

- Mr. Irving may also think the Earth is flat, as he revealed in a recent “Road Trippin” podcast with Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson, and Allie Clifton. He doubled down on that belief with Arash Markazi. Luddite or master troll, you be the judge.
Kyrie Irving was trending on Twitter today because he believes the Earth is flat. I asked him about it. pic.twitter.com/ODe9aP9qmK

❤
I would never play poker with Uncle Drew
This is filthy good. Filthy crazy meta all time irony. This is…ha I’m so dang impressed. Takes on Fake news…helps RJ and Channing and Allie…one of those may have been unintended genius, but it’s amazing.
As someone who grew up living for pranks, I think he got me, and got me good. And, yeah, what I think he is saying. Wasn’t going to bother watching the All Star festivities this weekend, but now I think I might. But maybe that was the point…I dunno! That’s good television? Is he coming out with a new shoe? Or is there some larger message?
I just hope he does FANTASTIC at the 3 point shooting contest. He needs to stay away from hostile reporters who don’t get him.
I think it was probably related to how much people care about sports personalities’ opinions and thoughts…and the unreal amount of content that can be generated to deal with, say, One tweet by one player. But intended or not, the way this comments on the current state of “news” in general is amazing. Fairly sizable portions of both major political parties seem to make up things at will in a “by any means necessary” type of information war…senators on both sides have been caught quoting sources that later came out as fake and willfully deceiving or hyperbolic, and Kyrie saying… Read more »
This has been going on in the sports world too. Remember the Dion/Kyrie thing and then it was certain Kyrie was leaving Cleveland? Sports media is political too. All the ESPN world talks about is Golden State is infallible They demean Lebron’s “aging process” or whatever else they can say against Lebron. There always seems to be an agenda. As a fan, I really hate that.
Sports media love a narrative. A hero, a villain, etc. It’s good for sales – I’m sure it’s the same where you live, but here in Australia there are Curry jerseys EVERYWHERE (I do love wearing my swingman #2 on the days I see these!). And they hate uncertainty, when the unexpected happens. But that’s the very reason we all watch sport to begin with – to see the spotty kid get up off the canvas & knock the champ (and their agenda) out.
Wait.. What? People not wearing Delly jerseys in Australia? And Kyrie was born there.
” THE FACT THAT KY THINKS THE WORLD IS FLAT BECAME A SOCIAL PHENOMINA IS HILARIOUS “….. KYRIE IRVING……—GOOD JOB KY OF TEACHING THE ” SPORTS MEDIA ” A LESSON !!!
It was more evident later when Joe Vardon took a prosecutorial approach in his interview towards Kyrie & then blasted him on twitter. Seriously?? He went there. This All Star event that is suppose to be fun and joyous event . I swear some people have no idea how to have fun. His approach was really misplaced . Smh
Vardon must be having a bad year or something. He is just cranky now
This week has reminded me of an episode from Frasier:

That’s a joke right. The flat earth thing. That’s a joke. Right? Right? ……
Yes! Look at the 7th second . He is cracking up & then tries to get some composure.
Listen to today’s All Star presser. Lebron & Kyrie laughing it up. So many were played! It’s rather genius what he did to get exposure on Richard Jefferson’s TRippin Podcast. More will listen now! Kyrie is a good actor with a quirky sense of humor & he doesn’t like the sports media. He wanted to see how far this would go & who would run with it. And Boy did they! He doesn’t care as much as other NBA players on what the talking heads say. What he does care is if they say false things of what he thinks… Read more »
Don’t forget Richard Jefferson was campaigning for those “Shorty Awards” on social media. This may have helped…
I COULD CARE LESS IF KY THINKS THE WORLD IS FLAT——AS LONG AS HE KEEPS PUTTING THAT ” ROUND ” BALL INTO THE “ROUND ” CYLINDER —-LIFE WILL BE FINE FOR HIM / THE CAVS / BELIEVELAND !!!!
I certainly hope that is a good theory. On the other hand, he might join a cult or something. We will know we are in trouble if we see Tom Cruise hanging around.
