Live Thread: Cavs vs. Knicks
2017-10-29Derrick Rose is back in the fold. His new starting teammates are Tristan Thompson and J.R. Smith. After lazy effort against New Orleans, Cleveland looks to rebound (literally and figuratively) against the mediocre Knicks. If the Cavs go after loose balls and play like they give a crap, they can beat anyone. If they don’t, they can’t. Go Cavs.
Podcap Up.
Ok so I missed the 2nd half of the live game. Just logged in and watched it. Oof.
So many questions, but I’ll just ask one: does anyone have a good explanation for why D Rose was in the corner bombing 3s?
Because the Cavs are tanking.
A measure of how bad the Cavs are playing:

Wow. And we aren’t just losing, but getting thumped bad.
The last three years the gang at CtB panicked at some point, and things turned out OK. Do things actually look worse right now? They might. Things look totally disorganized. Maybe this is Lue’s way of letting things work themselves out, and everything will fall into place. However, I am not so confident. Cols: send me some meds! I also don’t see any magic potions. For example, if the Cavs traded Shump + some picks + ??? for Boogie, things would probably be even more disorganized. It is a sad situation when we bank on the longshot that IT can… Read more »
After seeing how things went against the Zinger, Boogie, and the Brow, I am less convinced than ever about the “big men are history in the NBA” meme. I suspect that in ten years that will be a big laugh that anyone ever was buying it. This theory primarily comes from the dominance of the GSW. They appear to be one of the best teams ever, without much of a big man. But it is a once in a life time coincidence that four players with the offensive skills of Clay, Bray, TM (Indian name: Throws Mouthpiece) and Durant are… Read more »
Traditional Bigs might be but this is a new kind of not just bigs, but players overall. Seeing how Boogie and Brow dribble their way and shoot outside, it’s definitely not the “traditional style”. Zinger is more of a Nowitzki-type. He has more dimensions in his offensive repertoire than the traditional 7 footer but he isnt as impactful on other aspects on the court. ( Dirk is favorite of mine btw). Greek, KAT, Brow, Green, Simmons and in a degree Boogie etc are I think a product of Lebron-era dna of basketball. The do-it-all player who can score, handle the… Read more »
Good points.
Have to agree. The current officiating and rules favor perimeter players and the multi-threat player. Very few traditional centers anymore that strictly live in the paint. Even guys like Embiid and cousins who have tremendous post games shoot threes. Of course the rules and officiating could change in the future, but unless a guy like shaq comes along who is so physically overpowering I think it will be awhile before we see big guys return to the completely living in the paint.
This is all possible because Dray is one of the best hybrid bigs in NBA history. He can play 5 positions, and defend centers through point guards. And now teams are patterning their big men after him.
This is all possible because Dray is one of the best hybrid bigs in NBA history. -True He can play 5 positions, -False, he can’t score on iso consistent enough and lack the handles to play a scoring/shooting guard, like say Harden or Klay. He’ll likely fail at a high rate if you put him in a position like that. he’s a very good passing big tho and an integral part of that offense they run in GS. and defend centers through point guards. -True And now teams are patterning their big men after him. – In which he, alongside… Read more »
When I was a kid, I patterned myself after John Havlicek. Unfortunately, it didn’t work so well for obvious reasons.
Hondo is a certified winner. I think he’s very underrated in todays rankings.
I suddenly remembered a story I read maybe 8 years ago in a local basketball magazine on how he’s never got tired maybe like ever. That guy has endurance/cardio for eternity lol.
You are the position you defend. But yes, I was a bit hyperbolic.
The other thing to consider is that Lue is trying to get himself fired after the Summer of Corby!
Is there a joke behind “corby”? because I know its Koby Altman.
I’ve wondered the same. You and I must have missed the thread where Koby —> Corby.
Corby is like Frankenstein’s monster.
JC is the only guy with a positive +/-: Plus 1.
Missed the game but just read all the comments in the thread…. oh boy
You missed nothing…
Me, too. It’s a familiar feeling. Is that good?
So what Detroit native will coach the Cavs?
Mark Jackson has motown in his heart…
Corby loves MoTown!
Dickie V coached at U of D and the Pistons baybeee!!!
I’m done with this team. Until Tuesday.
Agree with Arch!
Lebron 16 points (7/15), one free throw (1-2), 10 rebounds (someone had to get what TT wasn’t), 7 dimes. That’s a great stat line for most players, anemic for the best ever. The entire team is sleep walking. I bought into the storyline that they hadn’t played together and needed time to gel, but this team doesn’t seem to care. Definitely feeling the Blatt deja vu…
Yeah LeBron seems to have been weirdly checked out recently.
He had a few turnovers and possessions where he wasn’t even trying.
Beginning to wonder if the shortened preseason may actually hurt this team in the long run.
Ok that is better. Keep forgetting to change my tag back to normal.
Wonder if this team is trying to get Lue fired like they did Blatt? If so, they are on the right track…
Based off their performance, I am actually starting to believe Nate could be right and Lue gets the axe in the middle of the season. It would be one thing if they were getting blown out by good teams. However, they are getting torched by the dregs of the league.
Sorry, I mean Lue is one of the best coaches in the league, right up there with pop. We’re lucky we don’t have the frauds coach.
Make way for Mark Jackson!
Lue attempting to win the game…lol.
“Everything is Awesome!,” he sings as he pops five Prozac.
soooo…why are starters still in game?
This team absolutely sucks.
Love is playing hard, he sticks out like a sore thumb
Korver hits, but Zinger matches.
If I were the GM I’d trade Rose, Calderon, Green, and Shump for a bag of potato chips.
Memo: porzingis is really good.
If the Browns get consistent QB play, will they be better than the Cavs?
lol, is that the biggest If of all time?
It’s bound to happen, one of these decades!
Derrick Rose showing why he makes the minimum.
Cavs need IT bad
/s?
No they need someone with a motor that can hit shots that aren’t uncontested.
We also need guys that can hit uncontested shots. Like not Jeff Green.
At this point Jeff McInnis might be an improvement.
If he’s healthy enough to play (IF), he’ll at least bring offense…something the Cavs have zero of now…I’m thinking Danny bent Corby over the table with that trade…
