WFNY Analyzes Cavs’ Meager Roster
2011-05-06The hardest position to fix is going to SG. The Cavaliers haven’t had a true reliable, consistent, quality SG since, oh, I don’t know…..what, Wesley Person? So I think it’s worth keeping an eye out on SGs who become available this offseason, whether it be via draft, free agency, or trade. I really would like to see the Cavs figure out a way to really upgrade that position.
Consider this recommended reading. It’s a pretty comprehensive breakdown of the Cavs needs, returning players, and possible offseason moves.
@Iz
I believe the order is the same as the previous one. So it might actually work in the cav’s favour to not have a season, as they can get two lotto picks in a row.
No thank you to Alec Burks. The dude has been described by scouts as uncannily similar to Larry Hughes. I’ll pass, based solely on those comments. Also, if we draft Biyambo, he’ll have to play with a big that can pop, or else we’ll have no floor spacing to speak of.
I must admit that a hypothetical lineup of Biyambo, JJ, Derrick Williams and Eyenga with B Diddy on the fast break would be very entertaining. I doubt that lineup would even be feasible, but boy would it be fun to watch that.
Alec Burks with the second pick would be a good move with either Irving or Williams at the top.
question :
What happens to the 2012 nba draft order if there is no season to decide the order
I’m not sure if we need a SF or a SG more. I wouldn’t mind if we ended up drafting Williams as the #2 overall pick adn then got Knight with the #7-9 pick. Williams isn’t a real 3 but would be an upgrade from Gee, Eyenga or Graham and Knight isn’t a real 2 but would be an upgrade from Boobie or Parker. If we miss on both Irving and Williams, then we’ll likely go for Kanter as the third best prospect in this draft. With Hollins/Ernden as his back-ups and Andy backing up JJ at PF. Then our… Read more »

Let Parker go. He cannot help long term. I wouldn’t mind seeing what kind of mindset Manny brings to camp next year. As for Burks, I think the situation may be very fluid. I’d trade back with that pick if they can’t get Biyambo. As many athletes as the Cavs already have, a shooter like Klay Thompson or Jordan Hamilton might be worth trading back for. Burks is an intriguing prospect, but he doesn’t finish that well, he is not a great long range shooter, but yeah his upside is intriguing since he’s barely 20.
If the 2nd pick comes down to Montejunas, Vesely or Burks, they have to take Burks, right? Especially if they get Williams.
This piece raises a number of great questions: Do the Cavs keep Gee or Graham at SF (both have non-guaranteed for next year)? Or to they keep neither and try their luck with Eyenga, Antwan and a rookie at SF (shudder). Do the Cavs resign Parker at SG or let him go and roll with Gibson and Manny (double shudder)?
