Live Thread: Cavs vs. Jazz (#HighNotes)
2017-12-16LeBron James and the Cavaliers end their four game home stand tonight against the heroic but depleted Utah Jazz. Heroic because they just marched through Boston last night to get their first win on their brutal six game road trip. Depleted because they lost Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors while doing it. So, this should be a double dose of good news for the decently rested Cavs… the Jazz knocked off the Celtics on their home floor to pull Cleveland within two games of Boston in the standings… and then had the misfortune of losing two-thirds of their front line in what looks like a schedule loss to the Cavs.
Meanwhile, the Cavs are one of the League’s hottest teams with wins in 16 of their last 17 games, including 10 straight at home. LeBron is averaging a triple-double in those games (29.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 10.2 assists), while Kevin Love has six double-doubles in his last eight games, and Jose Calderon has surprised with his solid play filling in as the starting PG. As a team, the Cavs are outscoring opponents by an average of 9.2 points per game over their hot stretch, and they’ve made at least 10 triples in a team-record 18 games in a row and scored 100 or more in 22 consecutive games.
Yet, the road ahead gets much tougher, as the Cavs play only two more home games over their next twelve, so hopefully they don’t look past this Jazz team, since rookie Donovan Mitchell, Rodney Hood and Ricky Rubio could still make things tricky for Cleveland if they aren’t paying attention.
Tristan Thompson should be available for the Cavs, though Derrick Rose, Iman Shumpert and Isaiah Thomas remain sidelined.
Prediction: The Cavs continue to hit the high notes against a tired and short-handed Jazz team… 116-107.
Catch all the action on FSO starting at 7:30pm EST… and as always, chime in here…
LBJ could win MVP just based on PER this year.
Celtics go 11-0 to start the 4th. Whenever Evans or Gasol sit, the Grizz have nada.
Let’s do the update and assume a Grizz loss. Wins:
6 = Hawks
8 – Mavs, Bulls
9 = Grizzlies, Kings
10 = Suns, Hornets, Lakers
11 = Magic, Nets, Clippers
Tomorrow in TNN:
Kings at Raptors
Orlando at Detroit
Pacers at Nets
Damn, Hornets, Clips, and especially the Mavs could really have won tonight. Suns did pull one out. Perhaps Memphis will as well. That would be sweet. We’d tie the Celtics in the loss column.
10 of our next 12 on the road. With visits to Washington (b2b), Milwaukee, Golden State, Utah, Boston (b2b), Minnesota, Toronto, and Indy (b2b) in there. After that tough stretch, we get GSW at home. January is a tough month for us, the only sub .500 teams we play are Orlando (twice) & OKC.
Bring it home Memphis. Would love to se That Guy lose again to a below .500 team

13-0 run by the Spurs to end the game…
Mavs choke. TO and Manu makes a shot with 3 seconds left. Lose in regulation. Awful.
Ginobili…
Gasol with 21 points in the third to bring Grizz all the way back from 22 down… Lead 73-71 going into fourth…
Suns win. Mavs blow a 4 pt lead in the last minute, have the ball for the last possession in SA. Go to Dirk!
Spurs get 5 second call and the ball…
Mavs have blown their lead… Spurs come roaring back to tie

Man, I’d really love to see the Grizz take out the Celtics tonight…
Clippers have a chance late but can’t pull it out, just like the Hornets. However, Mavs continue to lead the Spurs (b2b for SA), the Grizz are back in it vs. Boston, and the Suns are up 2 with 5 seconds left in Minny.

Minnesota isn’t as good as I thought they’d be early on…
Wiggins sure hasn’t taken the next step. On defense he may have regressed. Thank goodness we dealt him for KLove
It’s funny we never hear that narrative in the national media… but so true
He could still easily take the next step, but flawed player right now for sure…really bad season for him so far…
Thibs only plays 8 guys. KAT & Wiggins don’t play defense. Nor does Crawford. Gibson & Butler help them, obviously. I still think a healthy Clippers team could be #4 out West, even without PBew (they won’t get there on record, but after Blake gets healhty…).
I’d go Nuggs with a healthy Jokic or Blazers with a healthy Nurkic before the Clips…
Boston gave up a 22 pt lead to Memphis. Game on
Tyreke!

Cedi interview on FSO….
Cedi big enough to admit he was surprised Lue left him on the court
Bucks making a game of it in Houston… 103-97
Jason kidd “free’s liggins “
can’t bring Holland up either / he is out for 4 weeks—–maybe bring up PERRRANTES —–going to be a tough back/ back against the wiz tomorrow ——sure with Wall back they want to start to turn their season around –get headed in
right direction–win against the cavs would help get this going for them—-Beasley decided not to foul out in the 1st 8 minutes like he did the other night —-glad to see the knicks get the win
LBJ is 370 points from 30K…
Meanwhile, OKC loses to NY at MSG without Zinger. The Suns have a 4th quarter lead in Minny, and the Clips are only down 4 with 3 minutes left in Miami. The Mavs are ahead of the Spurs (again).
Weird night in the Association…
DeAndre Liggins is somehow starting for the Bucks…
Wow… Knicks ruin Melo’s homecoming…. Thunder let Michael Beasley! drop 30 on them
Was really happy to see TT have some good minutes tonight…
Ty says no D Wade and no TT tomorrow on back to back…
Wade looks like he could use a night or two off. Had knee issues the other night. Good move. Frye can play more minutes. Calderon will play a bit more. Hope Cedi hits some shots tomorrow.
Starters: Calderon > JR > Bron > Crowder > Love.
Subs: Korver, Cedi, Green, Frye.
Perrantes & Zizic should be active.
Or surprise IT return? (mostly kidding)
who had the Cavs at 22-8 and Ty Lue doling out 15+ minutes to 9 guys?
Can’t think anyone. And playing Cedi the whole 4th quarter, along with playing Fry/TT and Osman at the same time
Bron even has special handshakes with kids…

Jeff Green: +18 in 17 minutes.

Cavs with yet another big assist number… 30!
Maybe 30 is the new 23.
Does he reach Wilt this season?
https://twitter.com/FOXSportsOH/status/942221529286184960
Hope Green isn’t hurt.
Did look like he was grabbing his shoulder a bit after that “offensive foul” called on him…
Luckily, they’ve got TT back and looking good…
Thanks to KK and Cedi… Cavs get to 10 triples made…
Congrats to Ty and agree with EG on Lue being smart keeping Jedi on the floor. Surprised Lue actually did that
Donovan Mitchell is proof you don’t need a top 5 pick for an impact player.
Bet the Nuggets wish they’d have kept him…
Cedi was big reason LBJ only played 36 minutes instead of 40+
Bron was 10-10 on FTs…
Meanwhile… LBJ continues to average his triple double… just an insane level of performance…
Keep it 100, Ty!
Good win… Cavs probably guilty of taking Jazz too lightly, but the bench really stepped up tonight
That should do it…
Like that Lue is sticking with Cedi over Wade in the fourth of this one… good confidence builder for the rookie, and shows that Lue recognizes that Wade’s been a little off tonight…
He was a great matchup against this team!
Yep. Looking at the box, Wade still had 5 dimes & 6 boards. Cedi had way better energy. Plus, save Wade for tomorrow.
IDK why they’re letting Mitchell try to guard LBJ straight up?
Cause Korver, Love, JR, and even Cedi are all threats from deep.
Still… dude is like 6’3… they should at least put Sefalosha on him…
Cedi gets it!
Bron has another triple double
Good D by Kev… Mitchell with the putback though…
Can’t believe Joe missed that wide open shot…
I know!!! He was like #1 in Clutch for years at one time
Bron just keeps blowing by the rookie though…
