Live Thread: Cavs @ Grizzlies
2018-02-23After last night’s loss to the Wizards at home, the honeymoon may be over for the new-look Cleveland Cavaliers, but the bloom is hardly off the rose. Sure, the defense still needs some fixing, someone besides LeBron James needs to attack the basket, and those open threes need to fall, but it’s still a marked improvement over where the team had been prior to the trades. It’s one thing to lose because a bunch of shots go in and out. That happens sometimes, and is easily fixed. It’s a much bigger problem when a team loses because they don’t like each other and can’t be bothered with giving any effort. The Cavaliers seem to have moved on from the latter problem, which is an enormous step in the right direction.
They’ll have a chance to get back on the winning side of the ledger tonight as they head to Memphis to face the Grizzlies. Grit N’ Grind is long gone as Memphis has lost seven games in a row to fall to 18-38 on the season. While the return of Tyreke Evans should help the Grizzlies, and Marc Gasol is a tough cover for the the smaller Tristan Thompson and Larry Nance Jr., they are one of seven teams (plus the Brooklyn Nets, who have no incentive to lose) who are in the race to the bottom known as Tankapalooza 2018. Unlike the Mavericks and Bulls, the Grizzlies may not admit to tanking, but there’s no doubt which way the rest of their season is headed. With LeBron and the rest of the team seemingly rejuvenated, the Cavaliers should be favored despite being on the second night of a back-to-back.
Be sure to check tune in tonight at 8 pm on Fox Sports Ohio, and be sure to stop by and share your thoughts here at Cavs: The Blog!
Let me give Lue some praise in adjusting the rotations & distributing minutes correctly.
Minutes tonight: Bron 37, Hill 34, Nance 27, Hood 25, Osman & Korver 21, Clarkson 20, TT 16, JR & Green 15.
Whoo doggie. Just finished watching. Sorry I couldn’t be here earlier. Had a birthday part. Man-o-man, Nance was everywhere on defense in the second half of that game.
Yeah, he was pretty great…had 2-3 unlucky tips/ bunnies roll out, too…
Hope Evans’ rib is OK. Memphis can’t win without him.
Soeaking of: Butler goes down with nasty looking knee injury. As if the Dubs need more help: Boogie, Kawhi, & Butler now all out.
Great balance tonight. No one over 20. Hill & Bron with 18. King with a triple double. Nance with 15/8/2/4/2. Clarkson with 14. Hood & Osman with 10. Six guys in double figures w/out Love & off nights for JR/Green/TT. Korver had 9.
Complete game by the Cavs… Hill found some offense. Nance and Clarkson were great off the bench. Cedi and Hood with clutch 3s. Team defense was phenomenal after the 1st quarter. LBJ orchestrating it all. TOs were the only problem… overpassing instead of making the simple play creeps in at times, probably stems from lack of familiarity.
YES —” CPT BANDAID “—ALL IN !!
COUNT ME IN ON MORE MINUTES FOR “L-JR “/ LEBRON——TY CAN’T BE THAT CLUELESS NOT TO SEE/ DO THAT—–‘ZZ” BRINGS MORE OFFENSE THAN T.T.—-JUST SAYING
I’m not convinced Zizic is really playable in the NBA, so I’ll give Lue a pass on him…
When Love returns, TT should be the player who falls out of the rotation. Use him situationally vs teams that go big. Or to give Love/Nance rests when they get worn down. But TT does not teally do anything well save the O glass, & I think Nance is better.
Lue wants to let TT save face. And we need him to eat minutes right now. But if I had to rank our players, I think TT is 12th, and possibly 13th behind Calderon.
Unfortunately, I have no doubt that it will be Cedi who sits when Love is back…
I have no doubt you are right.
GO BUCKS !!!!!—–WAHT A GAME—INSTANT CLASSIC !!!
GREAT finish in Bloomington…Indiana takes a one point lead in second OT with 7 seconds left, and Jackson hits a three from way downtown with about 2 seconds left to get the win.
Wow — per Mark Schlabach at ESPN, Arizona coach Sean Miller captured on FBI wiretap discussing 100k payment to secure recruit.
The dominoes will start to fall..
Wow!!!
The player in question is apparently Ayton, but if he was doing this for him, I’m sure he’s not the first player…
Crazy… interesting take on PTI with Jay Bilas. Bilas made a compelling argument it’s the NCAA who’s the real culprit. The athletes need to unionize to protect themselves.
77-76 Ohio State with 58 seconds left…
Good to see Lue using Nance, and not TT, in crunch time.
Lebron needs a lot of minutes with Nance, to build some chemistry…Lebron already has 6 bazillion minutes with TT…
Nice to get some garbage time on a back to back…
!
….
I think I’d rather Perk get TT’s minutes. Or Zizic.
3 steals for Nance…nice.
With all the whistles, I’m surprised no one has fouled out.
Great patient finish by Nance.
Cavs in good shape.
Ohio State going to double OT…
Not enough Bandaid on the 3
How do you not love Nance?
I would start him over TT.
Nance, Love, LBJ, Jr and Hill
Bucks up 2 in OT 12 seconds left, Indiana with the ball…
Looks like Jimmy Butler suffered a knee injury. Hopefully he can return this season.

Bummer…I didn’t see the play…hope it’s realtively minor…
It sounds like it was a non-contact play.
looks like evans could use some medical attention….. from captain bandaid
The Captain is in the building.
Jeff Green is thinking too much.
Exactly.

And every single one has been absolutely exhilarating…
…
I think both of these teams may foul out…completely…
Buckeyes and Hoosiers going to OT…
We can all agree Clarksons nickname is officially ‘Captain Bandaid’ now right?
…
Nice one!
nice find
Nice run with some effective D and finding open shooters.
Buckeyes and Hoosiers tied 63 all 56 seconds left in that game…
That looked like a foul on LeBron. I guess the refs aren’t as whistle-happy now.
Captain Bandaid!
That’s his new nickname!
