NBA Draft 2018 Podcap: Adding A Young Bull

After a slight flurry of activity early in the NBA Draft Lottery, the Cavaliers wound up with the guy they claim they were most impressed with from the start… Alabama guard Collin Sexton. If you were worried about the mixed reviews on Trae Young… he was gone by the fifth pick (to Dallas… who traded him to the Hawks for Luka Doncic). If you had doubts about Michael Porter Jr.’s back issues… fear not, he fell like a stone… nearly out of the Lottery to the Nuggets at 14. If you weren’t all that psyched about the prospects of Wendell Carter, Jr. or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander… you can sleep soundly. The 19 year old “competitive psychopath” as Cory dubbed him earlier in the week, found his way to the team that could use a little fire and energy at the PG position.
To break down the newest addition to the Cavs, and the rest of a unique draft that saw no veteran players traded for the first time in years… Nate, Eli and EG piled into the podcast booth. We look at the fit of this young bull, who’s already made his pitch for LeBron to stick around… where the other top talent landed… which teams did well for themselves… and which came up short. We also explore what other possible moves the Cavs might still make before the start of free agency… and which dominoes might fall around the league.
As always, you can catch us above, on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts or Google Play.
Clarkson is 25. Sexton is 19.
We are betting his competitiveness will translate into him improving his game. Kawhi couldn’t shoot either, and Bridges shot 29% from deep as a freshman.
What he does do is compete. Always. And come up big in big moments. We can teach him some technique things on D, with his gather, and the jumper. As long as he has the BBIQ to understand them and the drive to learn (which it looks like he does) then he should be OK. Assuming he gets more coaching than “be aggressive.”
They drafted a PG who can barely finish at the rim, who doesn’t have NBA range, and who can’t pass. Basically Jordan Clarkson. And you guys are happy?
