Summer League Live Thread: Cavs vs Wizards
2018-07-06Welcome to Vegas, peeps! The summer Cavs (some some aren’t) debut tonight. Colin Sexton, Ante Zizic, John Holland, Okaro White, and Cedi Osman join undrafted free agents Dakota Mathias, Billy Preston, and a host of hopefuls like Scoochie Smith as they take on Sam Cassell Jr., Troy Brown Jr., and the aptly named Phillip Scrubb. It’s going to be epic. Check it out at 9:00 on NBATV or at nba.com, and let’s go Cavs!
Recap up.
Good to see Preston on a two-way this year. We should use at least 1 of our two-ways on a swing for the fences guy who needs developing.
Holland was rough last night. I think his 2-way is up for grabs.
Saw plenty of good signs from our young guys. Sexton is Speedy Gonzalez out there, dude has crazy speed. He needs to learn to finish after taking the bump around the hoop.
Cedi needs to continue working on his 3pt shot. Although I wish he would had gone to the basket more yesterday.
Zz is a solid workhorse. Dude can only get better. My only hope is that TT gets shipped soon so he can get those minutes with Nance.
Solid foundation.
I mean, you can’t play him and Nance together for long stretches since they both basically occupy the same exact space. They should look nice next to Love until he gets traded, though. Preston looks like he might have some stretch 4 potential once he gets readjusted to high-level basketball and fills out his frame a little bit. He made 1 of 2 from 3, and he’s really good attacking the closeouts. A little extra muscle might help him finish some of those drives. But once he gets back in game shape and comfortable with the speed, he might also… Read more »
He looked plenty strong to me.
I meant Zz and Nance would divide TT’s minutes, not exactly play together.
I think we’re going to have to wait a few seasons for Sexton to really answer the shooting question, and but he was able to create a lot of driving lanes that he’ll be able to finish on once he gets used to the NBA game, and he answered a lot of questions about his passing. He didn’t have any assists, but made a lot of good reads on the move, hitting guys going to the basket and kicking it out to the corner and wing for 3. Cedi played alright, but I was hoping to see him attack the… Read more »
Glad to see the Cavs signed Preston to a 2-way deal. He looks a little bit like Zizic did early last year, in that he’s not quite up for the speed and physicality of the NBA quite yet. But he definitely had some flashes. He took some weird floaters (?) off nice moves that created contact, but if he’d stepped through quicker, he would have gotten a foul or layup, and if he was stronger, he would have been able to absorb the contact and then use his athleticism to go up strong. Obviously, he’ll also need to work on… Read more »
Just watched the game…honestly…Cedi and Zizic are still the best two young prospects the cavs have. Zizic espcially has big Z like qualities without the inury history. He could absolutely develop that bailout 18 footer, and also has really great instincts on the offensive glass. If he doesn’t make a difference for the cavs this year, he will make a difference for someone else. Scouts are going to pay attention. Cedi had a weird game but he still is a constant presence on defense and has fantastic vision on offense. He is also an absolute impact player that other good… Read more »
Cedi had a flight from Istanbul through LA to get to Vegas the day before. That is some serious jetlag to be playing with
Explains why he was settling for so many jumpers.
Man. Philly trading Bridges is going to go down as an all time dumba** move.
Maybe, since they are ready to win now. That Miami pick could be a big asset, though.
Bridges is Glenn Rice if he had d.
I like Bridges but he will never be the offensive weapon that was Glen Rice. This take severely underrates the offensive player Glen was… he averaged 27 PPG one season shooting 47% from 3 and had 6 seasons in a row from 19-26. He was a versatile #1 offensive option on playoff contending teams.
Bridges shot the lights out of the gym for sure.
I would have picked him over Sexton.
MAGETTE THREE OVER SGA!!! WOW that was dagger….
KENDRICK NUNN! THREE!
This is a good one…. Kendrick Nunn with the drive and foul.
First time I’ve seen SGA in the post…. showed a little mean streak there!
SGA getting to paint at will…… can’t finish though.
Jerome Robinson looking like a good pick too for the Clippers…. pure shooter!
I’m thinking the Cavs dafted the wrong guard.
I don’t think they necessarily drafted the wrong guard, I think they should’ve traded down, and kept that pick they gave to the Lakers.
I really do like SGA though…. he’s doing exactly what he did at UK very well.
Told you….
SGA with the drive and finish!!!
SGA WITH THE AMAZING STEAL!
WOW… SGA with the pull off the dribble, elbow SWISH!
Man… this Nunn guy can ball! Nice pass SGA, didn’t get the assist.
Magette playing well, but that was a dumb foul at the end of the shot clock.
SGA with another block from behind!!!
SGA with the assist! Thornwell with the 3!
SGA sounds pretty good.
Loving his game…. his defense is kind of suspect. Also he’s not a “violent” player so to speak. But his jump shot is pure, his bball IQ/passing is great, and gets to the rack with ease, especially with that length.
SGA smooth to the rim again…. but can’t finish.
SGA misses the easy j…. got great separation off the dribble, couldn’t finish.
SGA with the hesitation dribble, AND THE DUNK!!!
