Summer League Live Thread: Cavs Vs Kings
2018-07-11The biggest tournament of the summer for people that don’t like kicking balls starts today in Las Vegas. That’s right, it’s the NBA Summer League tournament.
Afrer playing three games to be seeded, the Cavaliers earned the eighth seed with a 2-1 record. They’re up against the Kings, who snagged the 24th seed.
Cleveland’s team has played fairly well and has a chance to win the whole thing if Cedi Osman and Ante Zizic continue to show up. Osman is averaging 20 points, 4.5 assists, and 8 boards a night, while Zizic is getting 20.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 12.5 boards. Both guys have looked like seasoned professional players. Which isn’t all that surprising, since both were pros before turning 18.
Colin Sexton has been getting 16.7 a game and showing his effort. It hasn’t been all pretty, but he has shown enough flashes that he’s going to be worth watching. The Cavs may win it all on the back of two guys that are too experienced for this run, but I’ll take another title anyway even if it’s not a prestigious one.
The Kings are led by number two draft pick Marvin Bagley III.
can t see that rumor having any credibility
A source said the Cavs were offered on draft night the chance to trade up to No. 3 with the Hawks in a deal that would’ve sent Kent Bazemore to Cleveland. Instead, Atlanta swapped spots with No. 5 Dallas, and the Mavericks ended up with Luka Doncic while the Hawks landed Trae Young.

I seriously doubt that because it would mean one of Doncic, Ayton, Bagley, or maybe Jackson for Love and filler. All four of those guys would fulfill a massive need for LBJ going forward and provide insurance if he left. Considering Love might be a one year rental, and the hype and proof of talent in those guys, that would be pure madness on the part of the Hawks.
I’m sure they had talks about it, but I can only see it happening maybe if they offered to take on Bazemore and Shroeder for JR and Hill’s semi-expirings and remove the protections on next years pick because that would have been almost $45 mil in savings. In the deal with Dallas deal they got a higher pick in the swap plus Dallas’ pick next year, which could legitimately be anywhere from top 10 to late teens, depending on how their season breaks. By the way, that Dallas deal was contingent on Trae Young being available. So same rules would… Read more »
Trae Young putting on a show with his passing in the 4th quarter.
Trae with two clutch baskets… overcame a slow start and went on fire in the 4th quarter.
His passing is out of this world, and I’m impressed with his poised. A lot of guys with the type of pressure he has on him to perform would have pressed, but instead of forcing the issue too much when he was struggling, he played the long game, kept finding open teammates and is now using the threat of his passing to open up easier looks at the rim. You could tell on a couple of his floaters that defenders were so worried about the lob that they hesitated just long enough to basically give him an open look. He’s… Read more »
Colson under contract I thought. Lee should get a camp invite. Kind of feel like Holland has peaked. Preston looks like he has real potential.
Holland is what he is.
I have no idea what type of option/contract he signed, but it was not a senior roster deal or a two-way. So I doubt we retain any rights to him (though that last part is a guess).
SR: 1. Love, 2. Hill, 3. TT, 4. JR, 5. Clarkson, 6. Korver, 7. Sexton, 8. Osman, 9. Nance, 10. Zizic, 11. Perkins, 12. White (not guaranteed), 13. Open, 14. Open, 15. Open.
Two ways: 16. Preston, 17. Holland
I would lock up Colson & Lee for sure somehow. Mathias & some of the others I would invite to camp.
Got the same feels on Holland.
27 point comeback for the Hawks!!! WOW!
if it becomes a numbers game —although I like the guy —I would get rid of Holland just because of his age–go young players —LEE/ BONZIE / PRESTON / ‘OKRE ‘
Sad I missed the game, but happy to hear how well Sexton played.
Good to see Artis & White show up today.
Hopefully we see Sexton, Cedi, and Zizic next game.
Carter having a fantastic game.
Blakeney been strong too the whole summer.

just got home / missed the game—catching up reading the posts—-sounds like sexton had a helluva game—isLee worth offering a contract to—can’t teach / coach size ——-evil I believe ” billy preston–now playing ” will not only get a long look by the cavs but will be in a cavs uniform sooner than you think and for a long time —kid is oozing with potential—-got a ‘w’ without cedi or ante ——like the way these young kids play hard —-give me that anytime–can support that play more than j.r/. t.t. etc going thru the motions——-and we have yet to see… Read more »
Lee has been one of their better players in SL, imo.
The more I think about it the more I want the team to give it a real go with Love, Hill, Nance, KK and the new kids.
I agree…. trim the fat (JR) and give it a go…. only teams that are clearly a cut above are Boston, Philly, and Toronto. I think the Cavs could be in a melee with Bucks, Pacers, Heat, Wizards…. on paper, Cavs should be contending for a playoff spot?
Looking at the summer games, I think we are there with Washington and Miami.
I would agree – Cavs are still a tier below Pacers and Bucks who both have a legitimate star.
Yup… I’d agree with this… I’d actually include Wizards too with Wall and Beal.
We have 12 guys under contract:
Hill, JR, Osman, Love, Nance + Sexton, Clarkson, Korver, TT, Zizic, Perk and White (non-guuaranteed).
We have 3/4 open spots, 5 if we deal Perk somehow.
Plus Preston is one 2 way, currently Holland is the other.
Point is, we have room for Colson, Lee, and some others.
Not much to write home about in this one besides Sexton (and the double ejection… hilarious). Looked good again, though. There will obviously be nights when he sees better defenses, but based on his showing so far, he seems to be able to get into the lane at will, and he showed a lot more patience and understanding of what he needs to do to get better looks at the rim and finish. Been flashing a nice midrange game too throughout the summer league. Playmaking continues to impress. Aside from a couple turnovers where he tried to get too cute… Read more »
His midrange game is wet
BALL GAME! That might be the last time seeing Sexton this summer. Fantastic game.
MATHIAS THREE!!! Contested! Quick trigger!
Nice hustle rebound Mathias…. but almost threw away the outlet lol
Blake sweet looking stroke…. love seeing Sexton with some shooters out here with a small ball lineup.
MATHIAS FOR THREE!!! OFF THE CURL!
that was a two but impressive ability off the inbound pass.
Glad Cavs win, hope to see more of Sexton, Cedi, and Preston
and Lee
Mathias attacking draws the foul.
* Sexton not Mathias.
Good to see the horrible officiating extends to Summer League… lol
NICE READ MATHIAS! move the ball quickly to an open Blake…. Blake takes advantage!
Lee got UP for that block… kinda looked like a goal tend tho…
