Welcome back, NBA Champion, Matthew Dellavedova! In true Woj-bomb fashion, it was announced in a series of Tweets that the Cavs have traded George Hill and Sam Dekker to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Delly, John Henson, and the Bucks first and second round picks in 2021.
Here’s the sequence…
Milwaukee is finalizing a deal to send guard Matthew Dellavedova to Cleveland, league sources tell ESPN.

Cleveland is also trading Sam Dekker in the deal to Milwaukee, league sources tell ESPN.

Milwaukee will save $18M in salary in the 2019-20 season with the trade, which allows them flexibility to continue to upgrade roster. Cavaliers continue show a willingness to take on money to gather draft picks.

For Cavaliers and Bucks, there was an urgency to a get deal done by 6 PM ET today. Now the players in the deal are eligible to be aggregated on the Feb. 7 trade deadline. Essentially, they can combine these players with other contracts to move before the deadline.

The Cavs basically remedied the mistake they made of not signing the Australian to an affordable deal, and instead let him walk away in free agency after the Championship of 2016. They also get Henson, who is currently out with a hand injury and not expected back until late in the season. Aside from Delly and Henson, the Cavs also acquired two valuable future picks.
Hill, who was not in the long term plans for Cleveland, was shooting a career high 51% from the field and 46% from three, but struggled with injury this season. Only $1 million of Hill’s $18 million salary for next season is guaranteed, and the Bucks will save $18 million in salary in the 2019-20 season with the trade. Dekker, though younger, was more of a reclamation project for the Cavs, and was also out for an extended time due to injury.
Dellavedova should, if nothing else, provide a steady presence defensively to help out on the perimeter and give rookie Collin Sexton some support. Both Delly and Henson’s contracts run through 2020.
Meanwhile, the Cavs take on the surprisingly decent Sacramento Kings tonight at the Q. The Kings sport a record over .500 (12-11) in December for the first time since 2014. We’ll see if prized rookie, Marvin Bagley, Jr., plays after sitting out the last two games with back spasms.
With the departure of Hill (Dekker was already ruled out for tonight with his sprained ankle), the Cavs will be once again short on bodies (David Nwaba is also still out, along with Kevin Love). Hopefully, though, with the pending return of a champion, they’ll rise up to depose the Kings.
Prediction: Cavs prevail 112-109 over the visiting Kings.
Catch all the action starting at 7:30 on FSO. And, as always, chime in below with all of your Delly takes…
JASON GREAT JOB ON BREAKING DOWN THE AGE BRACKETS AND THE ‘ BRACKET NAMES “—APPRECIATE !!
Do not have the details protections on the picks the the Bucks trade, but upcoming drafts SHOULD look like this. 2019: 1st: Ours = keep 2nd: Ours to Orlando Note: 1st to ATL if 11th or lower 2020: 1st: ours to ATL (top 10 prot) 2nd: ours to CHA, we get Utah’s 2021: 1st: ours 2nd: ours to ATL if they haven’t gotten a 1st yet, we get MIL’s 2nd 2022: 1st: ours + MIL’s (we won’t get in 2021) 2nd: ours to ATL if they did not get a 1st in 2019 or 2029; we get Wash’s 2nd. 2023:… Read more »

Age brackets: 19- 22: Co-eds: Sexton (19), Zizic (21) 23-26: Young colt: Osman (23), LNJ (25), Hood (25), Nwaba (25), Clarkson (26). 27-30: Prime: TT (27), Burks (27), Henson (27), Delly (28), Love (30). 31-34: Vet: JR (33) 34+: Lion in Winter: Frye (35). This is what is should look like for a rebuilding team. We have to hope for Sexton to make a Fox like leap, a home run in this draft, some of the other pieces we have to cone good (LNJ, Cedi, Nwaba, Burks, Clarkson, Hood), and Love to play well. Could be attractive for FAs with… Read more »
If only JR was willing to play ball.
I am fine with him sitting. It weakens us now (short on bodies), hopefully locks us in to bottom 3 by the time Love returns.
We use that time to evaluate new pieces, develop the youngsters, and allow Drew to experiment.
No rush on JR. His contract is a better trade chip for the Cavs in the off-season anyways, from a cap perspective.
Once Love comes back, see how everything fits and make decisions on this year’s FA crop (Burks, Hood, Nwaba). Keep, let walk, flip.
I meant more as a mentor than actually playing. He’s showing the youngsters a negative side of basketball/biz which I would rather they didn’t see. At least we still have Frye.
Contact statuses:
1. UFA after this year: Burks, Hood
2. RFA after this year: Nwaba
3. UFA after next: TT, JR, Clarkson, Delly, Henson.
4. RFA after next: Cedi
5. Team options post 2020: Sexton, Zizic
6. Longer term deals: Love, Nance
Forgot Frye, UFA after this year.
VERY WELL PUT BUCK————-READ WHERE EMBIID NOW SOUNDING OFF—-‘UPSET WITH HIS ROLE NOW THAT BUTLER IS ON HIS TEAM”—–HE IS TURNING INTO A MAJOR TURD !!!!!
I told a few of my coworkers that Butler to Philly was a major problem for Embiid. Embiid is an immature player more interested in twittering than actually growing up. If Butler thought KAT was an issue, he had no clue what was waiting for him.
this team may not be that much better, based on record, than the 4-30 dumpster fire that i formerly disparaged.. BUT, as bob dylan sang, “things have changed” and for the better.. i like burks, i love delly, sexton and cedi can likely grow into a decent players, lnj and tt are cleaning the glass, clarkson is doing his thing very well on occasion, hood is likely beyond help, but who knows.. i don’t mind the losses as long as they make an honest effort (and not simply cash the checks), practice hard, strive to improve, and at least play… Read more »
i like nwaba and ziz as well.. still long cavs and waiting patiently for another W
Roster assuming Hood/Nwaba back soon:
ST: Sexton, Hood, Cedi, TT + 1.
Bench: Delly, Clarkson, Burks, Nwaba, LNJ.
Injured: Love, Henson
Out of Rot: Frye, Zizic
Waiting for trade: JR
15th spot: open
—————-
2 ways: Jones, Blossomgame
Interesting to see if the 5th starter (prior to Love’s return) will be LNJ or another wing/guard (Delly, Burks, Nwaba).
Missed the game again. My mom is in the hospice, so I’ve been away most nights. In fact I didn’t even know about the trade until just now. Hill could actually help the Bucks as a back up…they won’t really need him to score. I used to like Henson, is he any good nowadays? Of course the main things is getting some draft picks.
If the Cavs were going to lose, glad it was the Kings. I sort of root for them, and all their wins hurt the Celtics, so bring on the wins.
Sorry to hear about your mother, wishing you and your family the best.
Thank you…
Ditto what Vintage said…
Henson’s injured, but has been a nice bench big throughout his career. I see him as a cheaper replacement if they want to move TT and move Nance to a starter.
Thoughts with you and your family.
SAW THAT JASON –( NETS WIN )—AND YES THINK SAC / HOPEFULLY CAN PUT THE SCREWS TO THE CELTS —REASON I WASN’T OVERLY UPSET WITH TONIGHT’S LOSS—-ANY LATEST NEWS ON HOOD
Wow I feel like Rumplestiltskin waking from a bad nap!. Very excited to see one of my favorites come back!! It’s been tough for Cav fans.
More good news, Boston has Sac’s pick this year. Wouldn’t it be awesome if it wasn’t in the lotto?
After watching Fox, Hield, Bogdanovic, WCS, & Bagley tonight, I think they have a legit shot.
Bulls win. Back to 3rd worst.
Russ bucket to tie. Markannen bucket with 5 seconds. Bulls up 2.
Holiday for 3. Bulls up 2. OKC TO.
Sorry if I was overly negative tonight, guys. Just the excitement of Delly versus the letdown of a subpar effort against Sac
Perfectly acceptable. We had some moments tonight but we have a LONG way to go. Plenty of things went wrong.
NOMAD: do not worry about the pick. Nets DID beat the Raptors tonight. We ain’t catching them.
Bulls had the ball & a 1 pt lead with under 40 seconds. LaVine TO leads to bucket. Bulls down 1.
Leonard blocks Dinwiddie. OT in Brooklyn.
Nets up 2 late on Raps. Raps score. Russell TO. Kawhi miss. Nets ball with 5 sec.
League Passshould give me a rebate after this game. God, that was ugly.
Fun for a half. Plus part of the third.
Good to see Fox and Sexton talking at the end of the game there.
Burks throwing up so many shots
Might wanna play that guy, coach.
That zizic shot left a dent on the backboard.
Koufos plays like its 1957
I will take Russell & Pettit on this team.
More than 6 guys. G Hill not supposed to defend in paint, so who is?
Nice put back Zizic…. Frye 3!!!
Larry plays his bench finally. Wtf.
Sexton brutal. Dribble to the corner and pick up the ball. That’s like crap you yell at Jr. High kids for.
Cavs look like the worst team in the NBA tonight.
You didn’t watch the Suns.
To put Phoenix’s awfulness in perspective, they became the first team in the shot clock era (1956-1957) to post two consecutive single digit first quarters.
Fly paper Collin tonight.
Dislike the defensive adjustment on Fox… Keep going under the pick make him keep hitting jumpers.
Lol. Fox just abusing Sexton. Should be playing the Benny hill song on that Last p/r
No clock awareness…
TT caught in no man’s land, nance doesn’t help
13 TOs by the Cavs…
Not Drew’s best game.
He’s got 6 guys… cut him some slack
He has Jones and Frye but they haven’t played.
They need some stops , but they haven’t stopped them all night.
Had much more fun Wednesday night…
When we get a stop we can’t clean the glass.
Argh. This is painful
Not a great night for TT… aside from the coast to coast dunk…
