Live Thread: Cavs vs. Wizards (#TuesdayMagic)
2019-01-29It’s that day again Cavs fans… time to see if the magic of Tuesday can return for the wine & gold. After a stumble on the last one against the Pelicans (despite a furious comeback), what better team for the Cavs to conjure up another Tuesday win against than the visiting Wizards? After all, Cleveland had one of their more convincing victories the last time they saw Washington on December 8th.
For the first time, though, a Tuesday victory could result in just the second “win streak” of the season, coupled with the team’s gritty win on Sunday in Chicago. After mounting a rare comeback on the road against the Bulls, led by a solid effort from the bench, the starting back court and another promising game by Cedi Osman, the Cavs seem at least in decent spirits, despite still being plagued by injuries.
Prediction: Tuesday tradition requires me to prognosticate a lopsided score in favor of the opponent in order to properly fire up the Cavaliers… therefore I’ll say 133-103 Wizards.
Catch all the action, starting at 7pm EST on FSO… and, as always chime in below…
Feel like CtB’rs are a little rough on Sexton. Sure he’s a professional, he’s getting paid big dollars compared to us regular working types which opens him up to criticism, but he’s just a kid physically and mentally. Point guard is a cerebral position, it’s going to take time. He plays hard and he appears to have a good attitude. I think he’s sort of the perfect Cleveland prospect, “everything is earned” right? Keep working young bull, this is a town for working folks.
I actually like the fact he seems to try. I am just looking at him versus other top ten PGs his age from a purely development standpoint as far as ability to understand and run very very simple offensive concepts, as well as his vision. Vision doesn’t usually improve a ton. You either know how to make plays for other guys at an elite level or you don’t.
Not saying it it won’t improve. It will. But some guys are not and never will be very good playmakers.
Who gets the game ball?
Player: PTS/Reb/Ast; FG, 3PT, FT.
JC: 28/5/2. 10/15, 6/8, 2/4. 4 TOs.
Cedi: 25/5/7. 10/16, 4/8, 2/8. 3 TO/2stl/blk
Hon mention:
LNJ: 13/11/2. 6/8 FGs.
Zizic: 12/12/1. 6/10 FGs.
Delly: 10/2/2. 3/6 FG. 3/5 3s. 2 TOs.
Burks: 8/9/1. 3/7 FG. 1/4 3s. 1 TO.
Everyone who played had an assist. Everyone who got to the line missed a FT.
Cool that Cedi made the rising stars game.
I think we may be racing towards 4th in Zion league. This is our easiest stretch of schedule. 10/13 at home. Not a lot of elite teams. Could get Love/TT back. Gonna get some wins.
Cedi is really improving. But this is also year 2 in the NBA for him + his time in Turkey as a pro. First year of a LOT of NBA time, but a lot more pro experience.
Even for Zizic, it is year 3.
But this is year 1 for Sexton. And he is a PG. The hardest spot to play.
Still, a lot stuff to learn. They stopped playing. Cedi FTs/TOs. JC TOs.
Another game where everyone who played had a dime. 30 in all. That is a good sign.
That’s why it’s better IMO to look at their ages…. Cedi’s 23, Zizic just turned 22, Sexton just turned 20. Average NBA player hits their prime at age 25. They are years away from being their best selves, from a probability standpoint.
True, but you also have to look at how far they have to go/their current developmental stage versus guys their age. Some guys are way way behind other guys who come out early, just from a fundamental standpoint, let alone major skills areas. A much much longer way to go than other guys that age mean a much much longer development time, and possibly a much more limited ceiling/peak.
current cavs core “untouchables”.. big ZZZ, delly, cedi, clarkson, nwaba, lnj..
i am on the fence with sexton.. but am leaning towards inviting him into the club.. he is after all but a yute.. and seems to have a work ethic..
That is the bet we made with him. Young PGs almost always struggle. Even Magic had Norm Nixon early and played SG some early.
We certainly are not going to give up on the kid 50 games in.
Hard core (long term keep + talent) = Love, LNJ, Cedi, Delly.
Soft core (keep short term): TT, Clarkson, Nwaba, Zizic, Sexton.
We’ll see/wouldn’t mind staying: Burks, Henson, Adel (2 way), Blossomgame (2 way), Simmons (10 day).
Moving on: Frye, Hood, Smith.
Pretty much my list too.
Yeah, agree. Also, a full offseason may make a big difference for Sexton. I certainly think he can be a useful NBA player…needs to get stronger with the ball, number one. I think Cedi can be a starter on a playoff team in the future.
re clarkson.. yes, he is no “yute” (can u name the film?).. but in his mid 20s.. he can put up these numbers consistently for many more years.. while he will not become an all-star, i think he can push towards 20 ppg.. we gotta keep him.. he is now on my cavs core “untouchables”
cedi w team high 7 assists.. icing on cake.. very pleased he is growing.. just curious.. has some of the clarkson hate dissipated on this board? seems like his production in the back court is not very likely to be met by a rook, or via trade.. if he can grow his game a bit (re more assists).. we really need to keep him, right?
i know this is likely heresy, but isn’t he almost a bargain at $12M?
Much of the Clarkson dislike generated with Ben…
I’m not a Clarkson fan, but I think he’s been considerably better this year than he was with the Cavs last year. Maybe he just flowers on crappy teams where he can just be Clarkson. God knows the Cavs would have a frightening number of 20+ point losses this season without him.
it is what it is.. where ya gonna get his pts from? hood?
It’s the change in his role IMO… Lue was trying to shoehorn Clarkson into a PG role off the bench, when he’s purely a shooting guard. Drew has kept him at the shooting guard role and he’s flourished in that role this year, relative to last year.
Good point. He’s even less a PG than Austin Rivers is…that was just a disaster last year…
Yes it was, misusing Clarkson, not playing Cedi…. still not over the anger about last year.
Yes, and something about playing with Dell has really improved JCS passing, alot. Since Dell there have been a surprising large number of times I’ve heard myself say “great pass Clarkson!”
Agreed…. Delly and Nance are. perfect complementary pieces that don’t care if Clarkson wants to shoot every shot.
Delly helps him a ton. Pair Delly, Nance, Cedi, and to some extent Burks and you get four guys that are willing to pass consistently in every half court set.
Burks had 9.
Clarkson has had some more balanced games of late (assists & boards). Perspective is some of it. On a team that has more effecient/elite scoring, his mistakes are magnified. On a team that needs his scoring, you tolerate more. I think he has been better..
Paired with Delly/Nance/Burks he works pretty well.
I’m all for the Cavs playing well, just not too well. ZION
Feel like the Delly, JC, Burks, Cedi, Nance lineups could be consistently competitive with average teams.
Or swap Zizic in for Burks for bigger lineups. That lineup has looked very good in limited minutes.
Holy s#@t we are not the worse team in the nba.
CEDI HAS “TURNED THE CORNER ” IN A POSITIVE WAY ——-MEANWHILE YOUNG BULL CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE———I KNOW— HAVE TO BE PATIENT —-SEE WHAT HE HOPEFULLY WILL DEVELOP IN 3 YRS —-BUT IT HAS BEEN PAINFUL TO WATCH HIS PLAY OF LATE——CAVS HAVE GOT TO GIVE HIM SOME SERIOUS / QUALITY MENTORING / COACHING / SKILL DEVELOPING
My fear is that the cavs might cheap out in the player dev department. Hope DG spends some big bucks to get a good former player that was a playmaker to come in and spend the next few seasons drilling fundamental offensive principles and ball handling skills into him.
KIND OF TUNED OUT ONCE WE WERE UP BY 25—-WTF HAPPENED —–EVIL’S “TUESDAY ” STREAK REINCARNATED
Have missed the last two games. 2 wins in a row. Coincidence? Should I just not watch anymore?
Woohoo!! Go boys!!
Maybe you need to stop watching and I need to finish watching games live.
Pretty certain every time I stop watching is when the other teams go on a huge run.
Cedi had a great game, but some god awful turnovers, and a ton of missed free throws including clutch ones. JC had a great game but also had some brutal turnovers. Nance was very good. Active defensively. Same with Delly. Zizic was solid, but you cannot throw a pass more than a foot above his head because he just will not get off the ground at all.
Sexton was brutal in every aspect. No one really tried to just blow by him tonight. Dumb on the wizards part.
Cavaliers 4th quarter defense was atrocious…. gave up 44 points.
Sorry
My phone died. There. Jesus
Nice save, cedi.
CEDI WITH THE STEAL!!! Finally.
Way too close at the end… but the Tuesday Magic is back!
Cedi with the save!
WTF…. 48% FT for the Cavs??? Cedi is 2-8????
No matter what happens, what an epic utterly monumental collapse. Up by 25 in late third.
It would be… if it was last year…
Fair I guess. But up by 11 in the last minute or so and the other team getting the ball with 10 seconds to tie is pretty amazingly bad for any team.
I wish I could say this was tanking… but this is just bad play, bad coaching and inexperience…
Nobody knows how to inbound… or hit a free throw…
God sxton doesn’t even know how to get open off an inbound. So so far behind developmentally for a point guard in basically every aspect of the game save midrange shots. If he doesn’t bust, it will be a long time before he is an average player. 3-4 years maybe.
How is that a jump ball and not a foul?
Orange Mamba revenge game…
Sexton doing what he can to blow this…
Jeez… inbounds the ball guys…
NICE HUSTLE SEXTON AND NANCE!!
Free throws have been the only thing that Cedi has missed tonight…
Great drive Clarkson!!!
Need one or two more scores to salt this away…
Nice strong drive and finish Hood!!!
TOLD YOU YOUNG BULL WOULD COME IN WITH “GOTTA GET MINE ” ATTITUDE ———JUST LEARN TO PLAY WITHIN THE FLOW OF THE GAME SON

“Oh my God… you’re still floppin'” — Delly to Brad Beal on mic’d up
Best part of the win
Best mic’d up moment ever!
The Jedi and The Captain are a combined 10-13 from three tonight…
C’mon guys get Deng Adel some shots!
LNJ also with a double double now!
CLARKSON AGAIN!!!!!

Great pass Delly…. LNJ draws the foul.
Wow… is that Jordan McRae??
I always thought he had more potential than we gave him chances to show.
The Wiz miss Oubre…
Best game of year. I would love to see a starting Frontcourt of Cedi Nance Love post ASG. Smart players who pass well. Would need Delly to help with the D though!
Cavs have only two turnovers this half…
Nice hesitation move Clarkson, draws the foul.
Delly Turkey trey!
Cedi is a revelation.
The Cavs have hit 100… with almost 9 minutes left in the game!!
DELLY TRAY PART DEUX!!!
TIME FOR ” MR 4TH QTR –G.B. “–TO PAT THE STAT SHEET —WHY NOT AFTER ALL IT IS HIS BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT
