Live Thread: Cavs vs Clippers
2019-03-22The Cavaliers, coming off a good win against a Bucks team without Antetokounmpo, will face off against the playoff bound Clippers. The Cavaliers have been much improved of late and are seemingly playing with a lot of joy again. It certainly has been fun to watch over the past several weeks. However, out west, the bottom four seeds in the playoff picture are currently tied with the exact same 42-30 record. In light of that four-way tie, the Clippers likely won’t be taking the Cavs lightly as every win/loss from here on out will factor into their playoff seed. It could mean the difference between facing off against the Blazers in the first round versus facing off against the Warriors. With how well the Clips have been playing lately (8-2 in their last ten), I don’t expect they will let off the pedal against a lottery bound Cavs team.
That being said, Cleveland has removed Kevin Love from the injury report so he should be good to go tonight. Along with the returns of Tristan Thompson and Larry Nance Jr., the Cavaliers are near full-health for the first time this season. The only remaining holdout is Delly, who is still in the concussion protocol. I expect this one to be an exciting loss against a tough Western Conference opponent. My prediction, which will almost certainly be way off, is 118-110, Clippers. As always, Go Cavs!

Best thing he did in terms of getting us a loss was keeping Sexton on the bench in the fourth until about 3 minutes left. And Nance still almost willed the team back. Next year is gonna be a fun one.
I dunno – I mean, is a masterful tanking effort designed to enhance your chances of losing, or guaranteeing it? If JC’s bomb at the buzzer goes in, no dice. I think this team wants to win. If management want to lose, they will have to rest players.
I 100% wanted Sexton to get the call at the end rather than JC. He has been so clutch since the first time we called his # and he air balled a lefty push shot. I think like 8-9 in clutch situations. Why give that to Clarkson?
It’s called tanking, and it’s ruining basketball.
Meh. Tank strong. Free agency is only for big market teams save for small market teams resigning guys they already have who they had to draft or trade draft assets to get, which doesn’t count because both scenarios stem from the draft. The chance of getting a transcendent talent is much better with a top three pick than a top 10-15. Chances of signing a top five guy in free agency is basically nil without already having a contender already in place for small markets. Even then it is still slim. Chances of building a super team without multiple years… Read more »
2010s memphis type team
No draft. Hard cap. Solves most issues.
I think that would screw small market teams even more. What reason would any FAs have to stay with their small market team’s if teams can’t afford to pay them a ton and go over the cap in doing so? They would all go to the destination teams because they could earn the same amount there. Also no top tier prospects are going to willingly sign in small markets in their first contracts unless they are from there. LBJ probably would have gone to NYC out of high school.
Take this with maybe not even a grain of salt, but if it was true, that would be cool.

I would want JC to:
1) Make the pass, or
2) Attack the rim
Yeah. I guess the pass was the goal. But seems like Lac saw that coming.
Fun game.
Dunno what the Cavs were doing on d that last normal La possession. Sexton was seemingly, purposefully, in noman’s land. Just an odd decision to have Nance trap which threw things out of whack. They got a wide wide open three because of the trap and positioning of sexton which they bricked, but everyone was way out of position for the board because of the initial setup. Just bizarre defensive play call and positioning.
Not only that, but if you were trying to win why would you have Sexton in instead of Nwaba anyway?
Which is fine. Teaching moment.
JC missed love on the pop. Bummer but an entertaining loss.

Once again, super fun game and it’s better for us to lose. Perfect. Go Zion. Go Ja.
Good fight. Hate that last shot.
Well, he gave it plenty of loft…but yeah.
The call for JC to get free is odd.
It was a pick and pop for Love.
LAC saw that immediately.
Still open with a smaller guy on him if JC makes the pass on time.
Would have been a tough shot. Is it weird I would have had sexton get free instead of JC? He is quicker. Maybe has a chance to drive.
onward toward jabazion..
Jabazion is really fun to say out loud. Try it!
star wars character
TT real rusty on his jump hooks.
Clarkson pretty clutch these last few minutes.
What a pass for a junior slam!
I’d rather see Sexton continue his streak than a win.
I’d take that too.
Cedi’s progression is a thing of beauty
And Sexton gets fouled like crazy …but no call.
Very glad LC hit that – would have taunted him til my throat was sore.
JC. Fat fingers today.
Collin Sexton with a turd of a possession there.
Nwaba out. Cavs bette get hot.
Well nwaba can’t guard everyone. Lord knows he’s trying.
THANK YOU FOR THE DRAFT SPOTS —CEDI / MONTREL—–YES I AGREE WITH YOU NATE –I AM FINE WITH CEDI —-AM SURE THERE ARE A FEW TEAMS UPSET WITH NOT PICKING EITHER ONE OF THEM
Qotd: 5 more points and we all get chicken Nuggets! -My 9 Year Old
Zubac is a big boy.
looooong
Gallinari is a lot taller than I thought he was too. He looks like he is 6’10”.
He is
Wowser. I get why there was so much hype around him back in the day. Thought he was 6’8″.
Man how many and1s is that?
Nwaba! Good D on Lou!
Damn. We left points on the board the last couple possessions.
Chance to cut it to 3 & back down 9.
Nwaba playing some D.
Gumby!
Inspector gadget!
Ugh. This got away from us. Im getting really annoyed by Harrel, Gallinari, and SGA getting away with off arm shoves every time they drive though…
Clarkson a dumpster fire at the end of this quarter.
Well that’s gonna be a clear path.
Clips shot NG 60%
Clips playing some d.
Freaking pump and jump
ZION NEEDED TO PROVE TO EVERYONE HE IS STILL —THE # 1 DRAFT PICK
Not to me. But he did anyway. If he can make a three a game sort of like he has been, he is literally unstoppable.
Game starting to get away. Our D continues to stink.
DID THE CAVS HAVE A CHANCE AT MONTREL COMING OUT OF COLLEGE ——LIKED HIS GAME AT LOISVILLE / LIKE IT MORE AS A PRO
osman went #31.. harrell #32.. 2nd round 2015
I’m fine with cedi.
Zion and Barrett put on a show in the 2nd half.
TT just out there gumming up the o.
Chuck the roller already.
LOVE MARSHALL TUCKER : ) !!
knew it.. the love of caps gave it away
i am more of an allman bros type of guy.. when duane ruled
A pair of timely triples from Love & YB.
JUST JUMPING IN —-AM WITH BUCK ON SEXTON —BELIEVE HE IS JUST NOW REALLY UNDERSTANDING THE GAME AND HIS POTENTIAL——-ALOT WILL BE HIS WILLINGNESS/ DESIRE TO CONSTANTLY IMPROVE HIS OVERALL / ALL AROUND GAME
numbers don’t lie..rock on nomad.. i see you as a mashall tucker fan? am i close?
is it possible that the #1 pick is a trap that none can escape? re you gotta go with zion, otherwise you get fired, ridiculed and your nba career is over.. whereas the real long-term highest-return value will be sitting at #2? i am close to believing that this may be case..not saying that zion will not be a great, generational-type player, but ja may be even sweeter.. ideas planted by some talking sports heads.. just throwing it out there
It’s possible. Nothing is a sure thing. But Zion is as close as there has been since Durant.
By saying that I am accounting for his defense as well as his offense.
Except Durant was the No. 2 pick.
But was a better pick in my opinion at the time. I thought Oden was a great prospect, but for me at the time it was be like if the cavs had picked Carmelo over LBJ.
Durant was not a #1 though, was he. Was that the year Oden went #1?
I am aware. I thought the blazers made an error at the time, though I still thought Oden would be a great prospect.
No. Not he’s the best prospect since LeBron.
Possibly yes.
bottom line.. gold at #’s 1 and 2..
1, 2, and 3. In most other years, Barrett would be a hugely hyped no 1.
sexton going for 8 straight at 23+.. appears that this level of production may fairly be considered his new baseline.. would anyone trade him for trae at this point? personally, i would not.. this growth spurt may continue for quite awhile.. as always, the trend is your friend
Tough call there. Collin has to get better on d.
Trae is a better player at this point based off his playmaking. Having a guy that makes his team oodles better on offense is a hugely valuable skill. I expect Young’s shot to come around next year too. Young is going to lead the league in assists for many years to come. He could end up being Hardenesque in his car impact, points and assists going forward. If Sexton becomes a passable defender, something that will likely always plague Young, that could change.
Offensive impact
ja may nullify that assists thing
In a vacuum I would take him over Barrett, but that backcourt would be absurdly exploitable on d even if both those guys become passable PG defenders.
I still can’t believe Rivers was complaining about the refs giving Love a few extra seconds to recover from the punch to the balls. Maybe he’s a eunich and doesnt understand?
That Harrell foul on Nance was a mean freaking play man…he knew exactly who he was slamming into
Only 4 assists for the half.
Clarkson with a lazy end of the quarter. Pretty lame to be up just two here.
Cedi gets a makeup call after Danillo tagged Kev in the jimmies
Harrell is an issue. Don’t know why they’re that up on him though
Stupidity.
Clippers half court defensive rotations pretty solid so far. Transition has been the issue.
Blue cheese quiche back to the bench.
Ragged quarter after the high octane first.
My NBAfeed is blacked out so I’m living through the CtB. Wow. Cavs are legit.
yo.. LA cav-man.. how bad is the anti-LBJ thing in LALA.. kind of feeling bad for our homey..cavs with that high draft pick (esp zion or ja) have got to be buzzing around his head a tiny bit at this pont.. what did dorothy say? “there’s no place like home.. there’s no place like home”..
Lots of “Kobe advice for LBJ” articles. Main criticism of LBJ is that he seems “disengaged”. Well if you think chill mode regular season mode LBJ was bad, you can imagine the we’re not even an 8 seed I don’t give a crap mode he’s sporting now. He’s still our hometown kid, and he brought a championship to Cleveland so F all the lakers and their fans.
thx..
magic catchin’ any shit? or he wearin; teflon in LALA?
They look like hospital slippers…
Lol! Aren’t those called booties?
crox
Yep…still good…
Wow. Those are some fugly powder blue kicks Quiche is wearing.
Junior!
Wo.. young bull 9pts in 10m.. outstanding.. by the way i am all in on morant.. let’s go #2..
I am not. Mostly cause of the defensive issues we would have with that backcourt. Also because Zion’s two way potential is absurd.
Psssst….the Cavs are good at basketball.
Don’t tell anyone!
Harrell changing the game with his energy on both ends, but he can’t contain Cedi who gets to the line.
Larry with a bad foul
Zach Lowe called out Sexton in his 10 things I like and dislike column. As a like. Still points out his deficiencies make it so he has a long way to go to being an average PG. But had nice things to say about his shooting and scoring progression. Means national media probably piles on the Lowe/our Sexton bandwagon sometime in the next week or so.
Lookes like kev stepped out of bounds on that drive or so says pbev.
Man Sexton can get anywher he wants.
Senior and I with front row seats!
Have fun!
