Podcast 203: Dunking all over the Playoffs
2019-05-03Nate Smith and David Wood had a much needed reunion in the pod booth. There isn’t much going on as far as the Cavs are concerned, so they hopped around the league. They went into James Harden’s foul seeking Rockets and how their methods make them feel. They talked about the twiggy stature of this years draft class and their favorite players: De’Andre Hunter and Brandon Clarke. From there they hit on whether or not college players should be getting paid.
And, as if that last topic wasn’t hot enough for you, they tackled a real dividing question:
Who is the tallest player in the NBA who can’t Dunk. They might not know the real answer, but they know the heart and soul of the no-dunking team is Raymond Felton…..
Because if he could, there would be new rims left in the league.
Of course, there’s NBA playoff talk too.
Speaking of not dunking? Why is it that Kyle Lowry seems to be a no-show every year? Can the 76ers real do some damage? Will anyone challenge the Warriors in the West and their enjoyment of the Nuggets-Blazers serious? Why does Al Horford get so much love?
If you survive all of serious topics, you get to hear their Game of Thrones thoughts and why Ohio independent wrestling is really alright.

Jokic gets so many of those Moses Malone multiple rebounds/ tips…just such a huge, wide body…
Kawhi ridiculous these playoffs…

He’s hilariously stupid.

I really like Steve Kerr, but I do have to wonder how a coach would be reviewed at end of season if they had allowed an early end to contesting the game like Kerr has several times this postseason. There are plenty of games that have been won from the Warriors position after Curry’s failed dunk. This fail reminded me of the lack of TO call last year with Lue and the Cavs. Haven’t seen the post-game interviews yet, has he defended their position?

Hilarious.
That was brutal.
I said a hip hop the hippie the hippie
To the hip hip hop and you don’t stop
Basketball is so much easier when you can run with the ball.
NBA refereeing is just a joke.
And of course the Ringer is already making excuses for Steph saying that Steph came into the playoffs with a mild ankle sprain and how he dislocated his finger last game. I mean, Harden nearly went blind the last game, but the narrative was he didn’t do enough. Curry craps the bed in the most obvious way and the excuses start flowing. This is why people dislike the Warriors so much.
Curry is a great player, but no one in basketball history has had as many excuses made for him. Lowe even brought this up in a podcast last week. Klay rolls his ankle, plays, and no one says a word about it, while every movement of Steph in the playoffs is minutely examined as to whether he’s 80% or 75% or whatever. It’s tired.
I still think Curry’s gravity is what really makes the Dubs go. And all that beautiful movement.
Having said that, like many jump shooters, he is a bit of a front runner. Tends to wilt a bit. Has hit some big ones (Game 1 last year in Finals) and player well in the Finals (2017 & 2018). But no singular Finals moment or game & no Finals MVPs.
Though his willingness to take a back seat kay have brought them two more titles (and counting).
Please basketball gods, let this be the beginning of the end for the dubs.

Embarrassing? Yes.
Even better were the not one but two blown layups late in the game which arguably cost them the game. I’ve never seen Curry as excellent in any capacity of the game except long 3’s. When put under any pressure inside the arc, he folds. Things like this just prove it further.
It probably won’t happen, but I am hoping like hell the Rockets get on a roll, Harden gets out of his funk and they knock these arrogant punks off. I could handle the golden turd raising the trophy for that service to the league.
I would be tempted to buy a Harden jersey if the Rockets knock the Warriors off. I don’t even care who wins the championship.

Listened to the Pod today and the discussion of can’t dunk had me thinking about Curry. And so it was!
Hah!
That no call on harden was a makeup for the bad Durant three.
Feeling some serious schadenfreude right now for The Mouthguard’s owner.
trying to dunk in that situation…reminds me of his behind the back pass that doomed them in G7 against us
Looked like he wasn’t sure if he wanted to dunk it or lay it up…take the free freaking points…this sort of thing is what will get the Warriors beat, in the event they get beat…lot of hot dog in that team, and there always has been…
I don’t think anyone can beat them. Freaking Iguodala man.
He had missed a wide open layup a minute ago, so I think he was just feeling insecure and was just trying to secure the two points. Terrible decision anyway. He lost the game for them. He has not been good all playoffs. He must have the same injury he had when KLove shut him down…
It’s weird how that injury pops up whenever the pressure is on for Curry. Just like how that injury made him throw a bad pass behind his back in game 7 of the finals.
Damn. If we didn’t know any better we’d just assume that “injury” was a go excuse for when Curry makes dumb decisions…
Good thing we know better. Obviously the team doctor is at fault for any Curry-related losses!
Another game where Kerr just gave up, like in the Clipper series…that’s still a winnable game, but guess the Dubs are too cool for skool…
I honestly couldn’t believe it. Who does that in the playoffs? Really!
Maybe they are so used to having a stacked team and the officiating cushion that they literally don’t know what they are supposed to do in that situation?
Or maybe they just didn’t want to risk aggravating all of their phantom injuries by really playing that last 20 seconds of basketball.
Or MAYBE they thought it would shine a light on the ref’s favoritism when they called fouls on the Rockets every time Golden State intentionally fouled….
Curry was flat bad tonight…missed a layup/ dunk wide open to cap off his garbage night…
Harden was awful down the stretch aside from that three.
Harden was MVP in this game compared to Curry…
Agreed. Houston only had 4 pts in like the last 4-5 minutes of regulation. All FTs. Two by Harden on a drive and Klay with the nickel-dimer on CP3 in the backcourt. No buckets.
That call was utter garbage. Durant kicked his leg into rivers and then flopped.
That was so bad.

Not over yet, but dagger from the beard…
Tucker beasting.
Why did it take 7 minutes of game time for D’Antoni to make this “isolate curry” adjustment?
Not sure I can handle another OT game….!
I do not understand this Houston offense down the stretch… Golden turd finally gets a call
Curry celebrating already. Dayum, would love to see these chumps not make the finals.
Why the hell aren’t the Rockets putting the ball in Paul’s hands.
He doesn’t look like he wants the shot…
Rivers flop
Shump just looks like he doesn’t belong out there.
Big play pj
KD and the KD-Aires. Or KD-Ettes. Again.
Man I hate both these teams.
Wow, block of the year by Capela on an Iggy dunk attempt…
This year, the Rockets have been more insufferable than the Warriors IMO
When it comes to trying to cheese the refs for fouls, yes, but when it comes to general douchiness, Warriors by a mile…
I should qualify I mean just on the court. Granted I havent watched the Warriors a ton, but it just seems like the Rockets are complaining on literally every single trip down the floor
Most of the year I agree. But in this series the Rockets have has an endless barrage of utter garbage calls to justify the complaining.
If Houston was playing anyone else I’d call it karma and the bill coming due, but holden State is actually cheesier…and GSW somehow has no shame about needing to flop and cheat even as a stacked team of defending champions…
Bray clawing at Harden’s eyes again…
Capela has been sleepwalking through this series…I know he hasn’t been 100%, I don’t care…
Looks like the Lakers are going to hire Lue.
Good thing Lue and Longo come as a package…
Good to see we have interest un Messina + the other guy (I am not sure on the spelling).
Not sure the HC should be the player development point in an organization. That should fall to an assistant in my view. Though a HC with PD experience is nice.
Agree on the player dev, though they shouldn’t be seemingly actively against it, a la Lue never playing young guys.
Also great news that the Cavs are interviewing Messina. At least they are doing their due diligence.
It does make me wonder why more coaches don’t go to the best in overtimes, especially extra OTs. Probably a very small sample size, but I wonder if eventually analytics will start showing new strategies.
Er, I meant “go to the bench’ — ie, bring in the fresh legs instead of just waiting for guys to foul out.
HAPPY FOR YOU EVIL—-ALSO HAPPY FOR HOOD—-!!!
Guys… I was at this game in Portland… greatest NBA game I’ve ever seen! Had no dog in the fight, but was super thrilled to see Rodney be the hero at the end…
WHAT?!?! YOU WERE THERE??? That’s awesome!!! You brought that CtB magic with you!!! No wonder Hood balled out!
Woooow! Cannot imagine the vibe, that crowd was so pumped the whole time. Well, Jokic and crew made them quite for a few minutes in the fourth, but that didn’t last. Stoked for you EG.
And it’s not Rodney, it’s his brother dammit.
Yep. Happy for Rodney as well. Too bad he could not unlock that here. Though there were a couple game winners. One this year. One last vs Boston.
Hill also had a great game for Milwaukee.
Wow, awesome, what timing!
That is insane. I watched a replay earlier today. One of the best games of the millennium.
Happy for Hood…still have zero confidence in him…
goodnight (finally!) CTB!
Awesome game. Fun to see Rodney Hood the unlikely hero!
