2019 Draft Podcap: Taking Swings, Dodging Bols
2019-06-21Whew. That was a close one. We almost lost EvilGenius who pledged to ghost this team if they ended up with Bol Bol. Fortunately for us, the Cavs passed. In a night full of wild pitches, Bol ended up lasting until the 44th pick, when the Nuggets traded with the Heat to grab the oddly proportioned human. After the 26th pick, the Cavs followed up their selection of Darius Garland at No. 5 by selecting Dylan Windler of Belmont. As the pod kicked off, Cleveland surprised us all by trading back into the first round and grabbing Kevin Porter Jr. from USC, who’d been rumored to the Cavs as early as the late lottery.
Nate Smith, Evil Genius, Eli Kim, and Tom Pestak all squeezed into the podcast to take our cuts. We broke down the pros and cons of Darius Garland, the surprise of J.R. Smith staying put on draft night, and the Cavs’ and the NBA’s focus on shooting. Then we picked the biggest winners and losers of draft night. Winners included Atlanta, Memphis, Cam Johnson, and definitely New Orleans. Losers threw a included Boston, Phoenix, and Jay Bilas’ draft board. We wrapped it all up with some talk of NBA free agency, a tour San Diego’s finest eateries, and tales of Tom Pestak’s little league savants and whether or not they need to hire an agent.
Check us out below, on Anchor.fm, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, Tunein, or Spotify.
“A 15th player under the Cavs’ control is David Nwaba, who could be a restricted free agent. Nwaba was limited to 51 games last season and averaged 6.5 points. A league source said the Cavs were likely to “do David a favor,” which probably means they intend to allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.”

JJ Redick podcast is interesting and something I just discovered. He just had Lowe on and they were talking about FA which was very surreal since JJ’s future with the sixers and two of his teammates futures are totally up in the air. Talked about Butler and possible destinations/rumors. That was crazy to hear from JJ. He didn’t let anything slip about himself or the other two guys, but he did straight up ask Lowe for predictions. At one point he asked Lowe if you had to call it, what is the sixers starting lineup next year? Lowe said Simmons,… Read more »
A lot of people think Wiggins is good (can get you 40 points!), and he’s still young. If the Cavs end up with him I’m calling him Corby until he’s fired.
If the Cavs get Wiggins they either better get a ransom, or they should also spend all of their capitol trading for Bol, Tacko, and Reddish.
I don’t think the Cavs are that desperate or dumb enough to pay Minny. Think the only way he would end up here is if we got some decent assets. Minimally a couple first rounders, which I don’t think Minny would do. Lowe’s reasoning for teams paying the wolves or getting him in a neutral deal was rebuilding teams with mediocre assets selling fans on his youth, potential, and hope. Since Charlotte is losing Kemba, hope would be the justification, a way to buy time. Hey look we got a young guy who has tools and could still improve. I… Read more »

Not great, but expected for the last couple of days. Who are their bigs? Melo at 5?
Guess Charlotte is going full on rebuild. Team wasn’t going anywhere anyway unless Bridges develops into an athletic star real quick. Kemba probably fits better than Kyrie in Boston at least from a lockerroom standpoint.
They should have traded him when they had the chance.
MJ is cheap.

How long until LeBron fires Vogel?
Not this year. Next year he might force the Lakers to give lue whatever he wants. And if they win this year Vogel stays regardless.
I give Vogel until February…
If Leonard goes to the Lakers, then I’ll root for any team to beat them, including Golden State, and Boston.
I never want the Lakers to win anything.
I’m no fan, but more importantly I hate watching teams stack the deck. Like GS did with Durant.
Well inevitably all falling into place for them, as usual.
I wonder if the Lakers pitch to Leonard, will include a staring roll in ‘Space Jam’? The league will have to make the ‘Space Jam’ rules to go along with the ‘Jordan Rules’ and the ‘Stepien Rules.’
Salt Lake City SL roster has 16 on it. Garland, Windler, & Porter. New 2 way player PF Dean Wade. Former 2 way player Blossomgame. Plus 3 more from Canton: F JaCorey Williams, G Malik Newman, & G Muhammed Ali Abdur-Rahkman. Plus the previously mentioned G Phil Booth (Nova), C Marques Bolden (Duke) and Utah NBA vet G Naz Mitrou-Long. 4 college rookies. Dylan Oketlowsksi, a 6’9″ C (Texas). Sandy Cohen, G, 6’6″ (Green Bay). Jalen Hudson, F, 6’6″ (Florida). Anthony Lawrence, F, 6’7″ (Florida). And 6’7″ G-F Yovel Zoosman. Who plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. Great hire for the Celtics. Thought Lawson should’ve had a better color analyst gig at ESPN. Looks like a few NBA front offices are really trying to tap into the “market inefficiency” (as Dan Gilbert put it) of female coaches in the NBA.
https://twitter.com/ChrisFedor/status/1144322441935765504
Still bizarre Garland not playing. He needs development time in higher level team ball settings. I get being cautious, but unless he really isn’t 100% this seems extreme. Maybe everyone was spooked by KD though.
God the wizards took that for a second rounder? Boy what a sh@# show that team is.
Wall thought that Isaac was a 6 foot Bong, not a Bonga, and was all for it.
Ha!
Yeah, I’m not sure it would’ve matter if they had a GM in place. The owner is pretty incompetent.
Lakers must feel they are close on a 3rd big FA.
Probably Butler.
Kemba negotiations aren’t going well with Charlotte. Seems like the other major possibility.
Sounds like Kemba to Boston is pretty close to a done deal…I’d bet on DLo, if Lakers get another max…
Or Butler. Wolves fans are convinced they can trade Teague’s expiring, okogie, and one or two other guys plus a first to a third team to free max space then give the nets a second to sign and trade delo to them. Assuming of course delo wants to go to minny and that he has no other suitors. He might not. But suspect they haven’t considered the Knicks. Knicks probably throw him a max and he no doubt will go there over Minny. Seems like a pipe dream on the Canis Blogger’s part. Check that. NY daily news apparently say… Read more »
On 92.3 Carmen, Lima, and Jason Lloyd were discussing whether or not the Cavs will retire Kyrie’s jersey.
I think they will and should. And I’m no fan of Kyrie.
They should NOT retire Kyrie’s jersey.
Bron. Price. Z. Andy. Nance. Thurmond. AC.
Kevin if he stays a while.
Didn’t Thurmond play here for 20 minutes?
Jersey is already retired.
But yeah. 1-2 years.
Yep. We don’t win without Kyrie. Second best player in 2016. Outplayed Steph.
I am fine with retiring it, even if he is a knucklehead. He was and forever will have been the other major piece in the best moment in Cleveland sports in 52 years. And who knows? Maybe another 52 years.
My problem is all the trash he talked about the city after he left. Not cool, Kyrie. I’m undecided. I need more time before I’m ready for a jersey retirement, I think.
I’m sure it’s years away.
Oh yeah. Forgot about that. That is problematic for me.
I agree. Today I wouldn’t want to retire Kyrie’s.
He was undoubtably huge for the Cavs and vital to the championship. If he ever grows up and stops taking a dump on his own Cavaliers legacy then I would be more than willing to change my mind.
Less than 2 seasons. Though he was born in Akron, played high school in Akron, then college at Bowling Green. He retired in Cleveland. His family was also in the area. After he retired, my mother met him and went on some dates with him after treating his father in the hospital for quite awhile in the area (but missed out on the chance to sit courtside with him at the Cavs…im still disappointed with her about missing that, heh). So yeah, not a long term Cleveland player, but he was a Hall of Famer with long term local roots… Read more »
One of my favorite conclusions ever on this blog.

God, I hope their FA bid, whether one guy or several non max, comes up snake eyes. So tired of Klutch playing the league like a harp.
I want them to sign Kyrie, so he can blow up the Lakers.
Lakers have 32 million in cap space now. So they can sign Melo after all.
https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1144308810670120960
What do the Wizards get?
Nothing, since they don’t have a GM. Actually the Lakers had to throw in a 2022 second.
So the Lakers found an easy sucker in the Wizards.
Could get Kyrie, Kemba, or Delo now.
AD has to waive his trade kicker, but that should be doable.
Now the Cavs release their SL roster, and Garland is on it…so is he playing?
Maybe just observing, but honestly no idea why he wouldn’t play, unless there are medicals they aren’t releasing.
Awesome Sauce!
Lindsay Gottlieb didn’t want to be a token hire for the Cavaliers. Here’s how she learned she wasn’t: https://theathletic.com/1046766/2019/06/27/lindsay-gottlieb-didnt-want-to-be-a-token-hire-for-the-cavaliers-heres-how-she-learned-she-wasnt/
Joe Vardon responding to Nate’s tweet… :)
FYI… Nate’s Tweet wasn’t in the article.
She left a cushy job in California to join the Cavs… I think she’s a home run hire. I heard her speak twice in pressers, she’s an excellent communicator and knows exactly what she’s doing.
Her and Bickerstaff very clutch hires for Koby/Beilein.
No doubt!
I really really liked her post draft presser.

Can they play Ante in SL? I thought I heard something about NBA players only being eligible to play in SL for two years or something.
Anyone know if there are any such restrictions?
Apparently the Clippers are looking to pair Leonard and Butler. I think it’s probably a long shot. But in order to do that they would have to send out Gallinari. Here’s my proposed trade that helps Minny shed Wiggins contract…
Clippers get: JR Smith
Minny gets: Gallinari, Clarkson
Cavs get: Wiggins, Culver, and Minny’s 2021 first round pick
http://tradenba.com/trades/SygqKPGer
I can’t lie this is something I could get behind lol
Me too. Unfortunately there are too many variables. I think Leonard stays in Toronto for 1 more year. Also, I think Minny still thinks it can get a better deal for Wiggins, and I’m not sure the Cavs would be willing to take on his contract.
Cavs would not unless it resulted in a ransom of premium draft picks, but two wings that are young could be intriguing enough.
Minny’s crazy for not taking a deal like that.
Agree about Leonard.
I agree on the Cavs. But they are essentially get two lottery picks (if you include Culver).
I doubt Wiggins goes anywhere. They aren’t just going to give up a guy like Culver to move him. Sort of self defeating since Minny is not really going to be attract FAs. Same as us. Like us, they might get some third tier guys who are good players by overpaying, but that isn’t likely worth draft picks they’d give up by sending wigs out. Minny bloggers made that point to me yesterday, and it’s a good one. The longer they wait to trade him the easier he becomes to trade. Expect they are fine with waiting a year or… Read more »
The counterpoint to waiting is wasting 2 years of KAT just as he’s about to enter his prime.
That’s 40% of his extension, and if it goes poorly, he may want out before the end of the contract.
True. But if they hit on a pick, say a top 3 they could package it for a star.
Hard no on Wiggins.
I really don’t like the idea of getting Wiggins, but that trade would be very interesting if it were on the table.
Good luck with that Minny!

Makes sense, they played a lot in the regular season…. Sexton played 82. Kind of surprised Cedi’s not going though, although he did pretty much dominate last year…. so not sure there’s much to learn from it.
With Cedi, isn’t he playing international ball right now? They may just want to give him a break.
IDK, but if he is, then no way should he play SL obviously.
He’s a huge part of the Turkish team for the World Cup, arguable the focal point (with Korkmaz as his 2nd).
They dont play in competition until well after SL, but he is likely doing work with the team preparing and SL would probably overcrowd his summer. Also, with how Cedi dominated last year in SL, it probably wouldn’t be worth it (as much as I’d love to see it).

How do articles like this even exist:
https://hoopshabit.com/2019/06/26/cleveland-cavaliers-10-potential-targets-2019-nba-free-agency/amp/1/
It honestly makes my head hurt wondering why people write this stuff without having even the slightest idea what they are talking about….
Anybody?
Uh some of the targets are all well and good and would fit the team. Others are more puzzling. More puzzling yet is where exactly any single dollar of cap space is going to come from…….considering we are capped out to hell until next summer and that none of those guys would accept the tiny MLE we have. Not even sure we have an MLE available since Cedi is currently signed under one.
Cedi was signed under the taxpayer MLE.
We have the full MLE available this year, I think.
Though a more qualified CBA expert is needed to say if using part of one cancels the other.
Lol. I wouldn’t want a single player of the proposed players. Maybe the title was wrong. 10 players the Cavs should stay the hell away from. Nice find Jude.
Harris is a nice player.
As is JV, Vuc, and Randle. Portis might be interesting to take a flyer on for 12 mil. But again we have negative cap space this summer. So the whole article is sort of pointless.
I am exaggerating a little obviously. Harris is a nice player that is going to be overpaid at the max. Also, he wouldn’t come to a rebuilding team and he doesn’t fit our timetable anyway. As you correctly point out, we can’t sign him anyway. Only Portis out of all these players I would want at this point of the rebuild. Also, most of the guys mentioned are centers, who are the last thing we need more of.
Exactly my point. A ton of Centers and almost everbody is unaffordable. It just blows my mind.
I don’t know if Fansided pays their “writers” at all, but if they do then I feel the need to vomit.
Maybe their strategy is to write the most ridiculous articles possible and have people like us click through to see each and every ridiculous player they proposed
Well it’s Fansided. I could find better articles about the Cavs in the bathroom stalls of a dumpy biker bar.
Arch, you are absolutely right. Though both “Cavs rule!” or “Cavs suck!” would both be considerably better journalism.
Not a huge fan of Johnson’s.
Great news on Porter.
Do we have word on if Sexton will play SL?
Haven’t heard anything about Sexton, but I bet he plays at least some. Maybe half the games.
Not sure if the Cavs would have interest with the MLE?
https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1144047041473077248?s=20
An option if they don’t sign Nwaba. Johnson is bigger and longer.
and 3 years younger.
Just to be clear, much rather have Nwaba after having seen him.
I was thinking in addition to Nwaba
hell yeah… let’s do it

NICE!!! can’t wait to see him!!!
Excellent. Truly hope Beilein is there coaching.
He said he was, although I’m not sure if he committed to the whole time at Summer League.
Good news. He needs all the game time he can get.

Looks fantastic!!! He’s gonna be raining 3s this year!
I don’t like to get caught up in these workout videos but….that shot looks tight as hell
Keep working, bro…looking good.
The amount of work he’s put in one year is tremendous. Exactly the type of personality that embodies the city of Cleveland.
Honestly if they couldn’t find some place to trade Tristan Thompson to I would be fine with buying him out maybe signs the vet minimum in LA.
How much dead cap would he take up? That is the question. Aren’t buyouts the same as stretch paying a guy? Otherwise why wouldn’t big markets just buyout bad contracts all the time?
Wouldn’t stretch him. just buy him out for this year. Probably the difference between his salary and the vet min. So 15 mil I. Dead money for this year. Cavs probably wouldn’t till late in the season.
Guess I would rather get an asset. Not trying to do LAL any favors.
My point was that if they can’t get an asset I’d rather they move him. I think he’s a detriment to the team’s long term development.
I see. Expect that is one expiring they could move though.
Cavaliers’ Tristan Thompson just bought a $6.5 million L.A. mansion
https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2019/06/cavaliers-tristian-thompson-just-bought-a-65-million-la-mansion.html
Though working the trade machine is fun.
And that new trade machine is far superior to espn because you can include picks.
Stop it with the Love trades. Those are not happening without a godfather offer. Which is not going to happen until he stays healthy.
I would say three firsts and Covington is well worth it. I am high on Covington though and he fills a need at wing or as a combo forward if love were to be traded. Plus he is young. Instantly improves the d. Even two firsts from a team like Minny with one being unprotected and the other having standard protections would be pretty nice.
https://twitter.com/TheSteinLine/status/1143988175104348161?s=20
Here is a trade that gets Love to Portland, Wiggins off Minny’s books, us Robert Covington, three of minnys first and one second for Wiggins, and gets Minny Nassir Little, a Portland first, Zizic, Leonard’s expiring, and Harkless. Not a bad haul for all three teams, though that depends how much you think Love would help out Portland. Minny will have to pay to get rid of Wiggins, almost certainly two firsts. Considering they get a first from Portland, they essentially are paying two firsts to us for Wiggins. They are trading Covington to us essentially for Little, Zizic, Leonard’s… Read more »
Not bad. Although, I doubt Minny wants to give up 3 firsts, which will probably be lottery picks. And it depends on the protections too. I don’t want a bunch of picks that end up turning into 2nd rounders.
Well they are sort of giving up three possible for one unprotected later first back from Portland. Plus they are getting Little back which is sort of like getting two firsts. I think at least one of those Minny picks would need to have no protections. The others could be top 10, then top 5 and, then unprotected sequentially. They just aren’t getting rid of Wiggins for less than two firsts that actually convey. That’s how bad his contract is. So figure they give up two firsts and a second for Wiggins. For giving up Covington and another first they… Read more »
I think they are also high on Little because he dropped further than a lot experts predicted.
Also something I didn’t realize, they send out 38.8 million in long term salary and take back 26.7, 22.3 of which comes off the books next year. That means they take a whopping 34.1 million off their books for next year. That is pretty insane.
34.4 mil off their books.

Hahahaha
I’ll even give them Garland.
There certain guys on rebuilding teams that are untradeable for aging stars. Morant and JJJ both fit that, especially because both are on a different tier of prospect than Garland.
http://tradenba.com/trades/rka0d4bgH
And I see a theme lol
The part I do buy is that there likely is some upper limit on how high Gilbert will go into the tax. And that they feel the other expirings may yield better assets.
I think this is the other piece of it. Taking on the wrong kind of salary now limits what you might be able to do at the trade deadline.
On JR, I cannot believe the FO did not have those scenarios gamed long ahead of the draft. How high to go into tax for JRs deal, what year picks, what asaets, or when do we just waive.
I mean, the ONLY reason a team makes a JR deal is to dump salary.
It sounds loke Koby trying to placate a fan base that expected that asset to turn into something & did not.

Melo is probably open to finishing his career with ANY NBA team at this point. Best fit is with the Lakers or Celtics, though.

Know what I said about waiting until 2021, but looking at the non max guys next year there could be some interesting targets that might be had for the right price by the cavs. Guys w/POs who maybe decide to test FA (could be gettable) Otto Porter Jr has a PO, but maybe decides to test FA next summer. Is a very good shooter now, long, and can defend. Fills our SF need. Will only be 27 next summer. Tony Snell has a PO. Nowhere near Otto Porter, but also long, can play SF, and can shoot. Will not command… Read more »
The simmons thing comes down to Philly having the largest salary ever (if they resign everyone this summer), not making the finals next year and being less competitive and not wanting to max a guy that causes spacing issues with Embiid and in general have four Max deals plus Reddick, plus their other guys. They would be at something like 90-95 mil with Butler Harris and Embiid. 115 with Reddick thrown in. With a Simmons Max next summer 145 mil. Add in their other guys, Zhaire Smith and a bunch of minImums and an MLE likely 155-165 million. 30 mil… Read more »
Check that sporttrac estimates tax threshold at 141 for 2020-2021. So maybe they would be 20-24 mil over equaling about 45 to around 63 mil dollars in tax. About 205 to 220 million in total payroll doeending on how much the filling out the rest of the team besides Simmons, Butler, Harris, Embiid, and Reddick costs (145ish between those four guys with Reddick at 20 mil). The rest of the team costing about 15 mil puts them at at 160.
Yup, I’m not buying the “it’s a weak FA class” yet when we don’t know who will opt out and also guys who sign 1 year deals to re-enter FA, and what RFAs could potentially want big money.
Forbes’ Cavs guy mentioned 3/21m for Nwaba. Also mentioned OKC and Lakers as potential suitors for his services.

At least you had to the decency to be self-loathing lol.
And 1st rounder 2022 has to be included IMO…. elevated value because of one and done rule change.
Right to swap?
there you go… getting warmer lol
I mean, from what I saw, JR should’ve been a lottery esp given the discussion about what contracts were coming back.
KLOVE, easily two lottery picks IMO, and that proposed trade is KLOVE + taking on a terrible contract.
Can’t do three straight years because of the Stepien rule. As Nate pointed out, could do right to swap in one of those years instead. Would need zero protections on one of those picks unless right to swap was included for 2022 in addition to 2021 and 2023. Additionally would feel much better about that if Kemba left this summer, but then the Hornets don’t do that deal.
ahh good point forgot
Id’ consider it, given Love’s health history. Maybe a very abbreviated year, and no playoffs helped him regain some of his cartilage.
Someone on FTS made the point I’m trying to make. The Cavs’ plan appears to be attacking FA in 2020 and having 3 top 10 picks, KLOVE, and Nance on the roster. IMO, that’s as good a plan as any.
The reason JR wasn’t traded is because they weren’t getting enough to take on a bad contract.
I hear Raymon Jones, Barry Hughes, and Donyell Marshall Junior will be available in 2020.
2020 is probably not a good year for that. Would wait til 2021. Basically the same since Sexton is on a club option for 2021-2022 season and Rookies are still going to be on their Rookie deals and Love and Nance are signed already.
Yeah, just saw another person’s comment saying 2021 is a good year, so that works for me as well.
https://twitter.com/CavsTheTweets/status/1143684252493668352?s=19
One thing I heard Fedor mention was that the Cavs weren’t that high on this draft and wanted future picks, so perhaps they are working to acquire a future pick?!?
Maybe, but they could have had Brandon Clarke, for example, in this one. You don’t get too many cracks at players that good in drafts. And he could even bust, guess what — so can any other player.
Cough cough (Darius Garland)
I would have made the trade and selected Clarke at 13.
Thought stretch pay still counted against you.
It does but you stretch the hit over 2 times the remaining years +1 (three years on a one year deal).
Ok I thought it was something like that. Guess that would be like a 4.3 mil cap hit or so per year. Not bad. Though if you did that with a bunch of more those dudes it would add up for next summer.
Don’t think I would want more than 8 mil dead cap per year.
Well yeah but in 2020-2022, would it matter?
I dunno. Haven’t looked at the cap situation that far ahead. Probably not ready to spend next year. Dunno about the years after that.
Those will be the most crucial years in terms of cap flexibility and free agency, since they’re finally out of cap hell 2020-2022, and that’s the meat of the run for KLOVE, Nance, and Sexton.
Also when is Sexton up for RFA? That matters a lot for the cap flexibility.
I really don’t want to give out larger long term contracts just to spend. Ideally we spend the year after next. By then you hope the team has developed organically enough to lure a few decent role players/solid starters. But FA is never the best solution for us because we have to overpay everyone but max guys to come here.
2020 and 2021… so good point re Sexton.
IMO, I think avoiding the stretch provision is the right way to go, and at least in the NFL, I think the better teams avoid dead cap.
I think the right strategy is maximizing cap space as quickly as possible, and try to get to the playoffs 2020, so I agree with you John B about spending then to compete for the playoffs then… make a two year run with KLOVE and Nance, reassess when KLOVE comes off the books and Sexton and Garland are entering their primes.
This is nuts to me. I don’t see what the cap room will get them. Bad free agent town in a bad free agent year. 8 mil in dead cap then won’t mean as much as acquiring assets now, imo.
cap room gives them options/freedom.
I don’t share your assumptions on the town or potential FAs esp when millions are involved.
8 mil is about the max dead cap I would want. Would bring my hypothetical above projected practical cap space in the summer of 2021 down to 19-24 depending on the Cedi extension. Enough for one solid piece.
I think they are overly optimistic about Beilein and “culture” making them a FA destination.
Gonna regret on Clarke. I get Draymond vibes.
I am thinking spending long term in 2021. Looks like next year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons Sexton is on a team option. So ideally start looking for longer term deals (not necessarily max guys, because we probably won’t get them) in the summers of 2021 and 2022. Cedi is RFA next summer. He might get a 10-15 offer from another team depending on if he improves. Doubt much more because he is RFA. Zizic is RFA in summer of 2021. 61.5 mil going into FA next summer (with our 3 rookies this year plus Love, Nance, Sexton). Plus maybe 8… Read more »
2021 supposedly is a better FA class too, so I get what you’re saying.
I sincerely doubt Cedi gets that much though unless he does something really special this year.
My hope for Cedi is around 10. What do we suppose it will take to match Nwaba this summer? He is RFA, but I could see a team him 5-8 mil a year for 3 years.
a team offering him 5-8
easily 5-8… I think Nwaba could fetch as much as 10.
I’m pretty skeptical unless a team specifically targets him.
I hope you’re right… that would benefit the Cavs obviously.
Although wasn’t someone (EG?) on the last pod saying the cavs had agreed to wave his restricted FA if he signed last year? Dunno how that works. If they can just wave their rights or agree to increase their offer if he gets one from another team. Or is this something my brain made up?
I think Nate said that, but it was just a rumor that I haven’t seen corroborated anywhere yet.

SLC summer league is July 1-3, so no Porter there.
Any more JR/Nwaba rumblings?
Sounds like they will keep Nwaba. He’s a restricted FA.
Though I heard talk that somehow they were planning on completing the trade this week. I have no idea how that would work, but i read it several places.

Warning: profanity
Oops, accidentally posted downthread. Cavs a tad under $120 million in salary with our 10 guys under contract. Plus a yad over $10 mil for the 3 rooks leaves us just under $130 mil for 13 players. If we release JR, his hit still puts us slightly over the tax line. Upshot, barring shedding salary mid-season, we are a tax team this year regardless. So I do not really buy the repeater tax avoidance thing in Fedor’s piece (or Koby’s presser) as a valid reason for not getting another first. Now, not wanting to go WAY into the tax AS… Read more »
Guess Houston going to try to convince Butler and sixers to sign and trade for Capella and Tucker or Capella and Gordon. Would push for Tucker and Gordon if I were the sixers. Then resign Harris and Reddick. Gives Sixers more shooting and balance. Really what they need if they keep both Simmons and Embiid long term. Houston gets an upgrade on defense on the wing, but loses shooting and a versatile defender in Tucker. Don’t think Capella fits well with Sixers. Though, honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Sixers just resign all three of Butler, Reddick, and Harris. They have… Read more »
Am I just being mean here?

I don’t get this at all, but I guess I would have to be on Twitter.
I thought the rest would post.
Ah. I thought it might have been some Twitter meme or something with the other guy. No idea who that dude is.
The guy’s take is that the Heat are getting Butler. Oy. I said me getting a unicorn is more likely.
Huh. Didn’t think they had cap room.
They do not. Have to get rid of Whitside plus some others to do it.
Ah. Ha, good luck. I get the unicorn barb.
There it is — congrats Laker fan.

Haha. I wish JR well. Heck, he may even get another ring.
