Live Thread: Cavs vs. Heat
2019-11-14We’ve got an earlier than usual game tonight as the Cavaliers have returned from their three game road trip and prepare to host the Miami Heat. Dion Waiters will have to sit this one out as he is still being punished for his gummy bear incident. For the Cavs, Kevin Porter Jr. and Matthew Dellavedova are both listed as questionable while Dylan Windler apparently is still at least a couple weeks away from returning.
After the nail biting loss to the Sixers this Cleveland team has shown that they can scrap and have a chance against most any opponent. Tonight that means trying to contain Jimmy Butler while also getting their first shot at break out undrafted rookie Kendrick Nunn.
If it helps their confidence, the Cavs can look back to see the Last Two Minute Report from the previous game admitted that the refs missed Embiid throwing Collin Sexton out of the way for a rebound, so there is that. Now it’s time to look towards the future and hope that a mix of bonding on the road and the return to home cooking puts the Cavs in the right mindset to take down the current third seed in the East while inching towards a .500 record.
One continuing trend to watch is the consistent plus/minus studs of Tristan Thompson and Cedi Osman. Thompson’s rating is +27.9 and Cedi’s is +24.9 (via Fear the Sword). While both have had some good moments (TT having a lot of good moments) it is most telling that they are the two players that don’t have a true positional backup. Until Windler, Henson, and Zizic get back it is just something they will have to fight through and hopefully the Cavs can hold things together through force of will like they have so far many times this season. If they can limit Jimmy Butler and keep the Heat’s youth contained Cleveland has a real shot to steal a win here tonight.
I’m going all in on hope and predicting Cedi does a surprisingly sufficient job containing Butler while Love and Sexton have some good bounce back shooting. It’ll be close, but Cavs 111 to Miami 107.
Go Cavs!
Lol. Only the Browns could turn a win into a loss.
That was shocking. Garrett was incredibly selfish and stupid. I mean, my god. Not only gets him suspended for probably at least two games, but also gives the Steelers every reason to be pissed off instead of depressed following this loss. This will come back to bite them without a doubt. Pathetic display of sportsmanship. They should bring the hammer down on him, as much as I hate it. Worse than Suh kicking that guy in the head.
I’m predicting a 4 game suspension.
Mason purposefully kicked him in the nuts on the ground while trying to rip Garret’s helmet off. Likely what set him off. Unfortunately, Garret went too far. Mason’s best play of the game considering it set Myles off and will get him suspended for at least 2-3 games, maybe the rest of the season. Rudolph had to do something to help his team in the future since he put forth one of the worst qb performance I have ever seen.
I didn’t watch the game but saw the clip. Why would you put yourself, and your team, in that position by assaulting an opposing player with his helmet, that you tore off? No discipline, like the entire team, which is being led by a used car salesman.
Because you play a gladiator sport where covering up the trauma of repeated blows to the head is the norm? As someone who finds football to be an utterly ridiculous enterprise, the whole thing was pretty laughable to me, especially the pearl clutching.
Sure, but that is a whole other conversation.
I don’t think this means the entire team lacks discipline Arch. Like or dislike the coach, but the team’s performances this year after so many years of bleh show a certain discipline. It’s hard to win one game, and they’ve got 4. They are getting there.
Browns (like all CLE teams) get continual dismissive, derogatory pounding from all other bases. Myles made a mistake, which his entire team and coach have criticised. Not sure what more to make of it beyond that, but if we want them to succeed don’t we have to buy in at a certain point?
Wins:
2: GSW, Wiz
3: Knicks, Pels
4: Cavs + 10 others (Hawks & Nets playing)
Too early?
Never too early for tank talk.
I’d love to see Kyrie lead the Nets to the lottery.
Tried to catch the game, looks like it was a letdown after the tough loss against Philly, which was predictable. Beilein said it all, starters came out flat, not enough ball movement, not enough effort on defense. Hopefully they get some revenge on Philly next.
Touch wood, but Browns right now playing in a quite non-Brownsian manner. I like it.
ANOTHER NBA LEARNING MOMENT FOR BELELIN

Sorry I was mostly MIA commenting along with this one. You’ll all get to hear plenty from me in the recap though.
I’m polishing my Wine and Gold colored glasses and prepping to watch the game a second time. Until then, I’m open to any thoughts of any specifics you guys would like to hear about.
Let me know, else I’ll just brew up a batch of hope and moral victory stew myself.
I missed almost the whole game, look fwd to the recap. Now for the Browns!
Porter was not passing that.
Thinking that there’s gonna be a lot of film for Sexton and Garland after this one.
Thompson should’ve signed an extension before this game.
Just too much Sexton tonight. He was straight awful.
Butler so good.
Kpj. Ok. Last gasp.
3 happy makes me three sad.
Delly… Wanted that so bad.
They suddenly remembered defense.
