Live Thread: Cavs vs. Sixers

The Cavaliers are fresh off two straight losses. That statement alone wouldn’t be all that surprising, expected even. Fortunately, what is surprising, is that the Cavs are 4-7 and managed to play the Sixers to the buzzer just a few nights ago, ultimately losing by one. This Cleveland team is proving to be a bit scrappier than most of us expected and are able to give teams like Philadelphia a run for their money while beating (often handily) the teams they should beat.
While the Sixers are trying to snap their own two game losing streak, I expect they’ll be a little less surprised by Love, TT, and the gang. Embiid always presents a challenge for most teams, and especially the Cavs, so I expect him to have another big night. Philly should have Cleveland well scouted so I suspect this one might turn into the Cavs second three game losing streak of the season. None the less, I expect they’ll still be fun to watch. Hopefully these young guys can continue to grow and make strides, even when facing tougher odds. As always, Go Cavs!

Wins: 2: GSW 3: Knicks, Wiz 4: Pels, Det, Chi, ATL, Cavs 5: SA, Port, Grizz, Sac, OKC, Nets ————–PO line———— GSW (Curry, Russell), Pels (Zion, Ingram, Hart, Ball), Det (Jackson, Blake just back), ATL (Collins suspension), and Sac (Fox, Bagley) are all missing significant pieces & figure to improve when whole. Though for some, it could be a while. SA, Port, OKC, & Nets are underperforming & should dust us as the season progresses. That seems right. Although I think an injury to one or two Cavs would affect them more than some other teams. If one of Love or Sexton are out of the lineup I don’t even see how they score enough to win many games.
Yes. Garland needs to shoot more theees off the dribble. Osman and delly are miserable and shouldn’t play much if at all.

I also think Garland needs to start pulling up on some threes off the dribble. Teams really aren’t pressing him at all at the arc (for good reason right now). Cavs just need something to shake loose on offense. Teams can basically just sit in the paint on us right now. We’re not generating any clean looks from 3.
I’m not really sure why Delly is getting minutes. That first stretch of bench minutes was some of the worst pro basketball I’ve seen. And Osman is a failure on offense. I’ll grant that he isn’t a horrible defender (at least not as bad as his rating was last year), but he’s a total blank on offense. He can’t finish at all. He’s shooting 38% on shots at the rim! That’s almost impossible. It also doesn’t help that Embiid was able to sag 20 feet off of Thompson the entire game. TT is great but he needs 4 floor spacers… Read more »
Delly is the only guard on the team who can run an offense. Or even tries to. That is why he plays.
Maybe if it was 2013. He’s awful full stop. I would rather watch Knight and he’s also terrible. Yes I know the blog loves how Delly and Cedi “play the right way” and “bring their lunch pails”.
Delly sometimes has the best +/- on the team despite mostly playing with the second unit.
Plus, it helps younger players to actually see someone play the right way.
Delly, Cedi, & LNJ are the only guys who know how to make a post entry pass.

It’s easy to hate on missed shots for Cedi and Delly but they absolutely are vital to the clean looks the team is trying to build on.
I grew up loving the 76ers. Dr. J was my favorite player. Bobby Jones. Mo Cheeks. Andrew Toney. Caldwell Jones. Lionel Hollins. World B. Free. Darryl Dawkins. Moses Malone. Marc Ivaroni (sp?). Early Charles Barkley. AI. Dikembe.
But I find the Simmons/Embiid duo historically unlikeable. Bad Boy Pistons, Damny Ainge, Lob City Clippers, Harden/Westbrook level revolting.
Both are major league a-holes for sure

Agreed. It’s gotta be deflating to deal with. Embiid is a good enough player within the rules…letting him travel, flop, and deliver cheap shots makes defending him essentially impossible.
