Podcap: Cleveland 100, Charlotte 98 (or, Peppermint Hot Rods)

2019-12-19 Off By Nate Smith

Weird subtitle to a weird game. Cleveland played like hot rods, zooming out to a 24 point lead by the early third quarter. Then they let their foot off the gas, and were dusted by a 19 point fourth quarter explosion by Terry Rozier. That combined with 16 second half turnovers by Cleveland fueled a ridiculous Charlotte comeback attempt over the game’s final eight minutes. Cleveland got super sloppy after going up big in the third and just started giving the ball away and not playing defense. Despite trading Rozier triples for one or two free throw possessions down the stretch, the Cavs looked like they had it salted away with a two point lead and the ball with eight seconds left. All they had to do was play the free throw game and run out the clock to hold of the Hornets… but then Collin sexton dribbled the ball off his foot out of bounds. Oy. Then, Rozier got a wide open look after a monster fourth, yet somehow missed. Check it out below.

Fortunately, David Wood, Tom Pestak, and Nate Smith were around to take in this very weird Cavalier game, and break down what went well and what went wrong. What’s with the subtitle? Well, Tom spent a long time late in the podcast talking about the Linux distro “Peppermint” and a short time early in the podcast talking about Chris Parnell’s tattoo in the movie Hot Rod. Like I said. This one’s weird.

We went off on the Cavs, John Beilein, Kyrie Irving, the midseason tournament idea, the rise of the upperclassman in the NBA draft, Kevin Love’s defense, his untradeability, and whether teams would rather have Marvin Williams. And that was just the NBA talk. The non-NBA talk ranged from the the problems with teaching youth shooting and the dangers of playing “knock-out,” the scourge of corporate email, the inefficiency of large organizations, Rocket league, e-sports Raspberry Pi, whether or not to tuck a t-shirt into your jeans, and rec league basketball.

As for the Cavs, they were led by Collin Sexton’s 23, Cedi’s 18, KLove’s 16/14/7, and TT’s double-double, while Terry Rozier finished with 35 for the Hornets. Check us out below, on Apple PodcastsGoogle PlayStitcherTunein, or Spotify.
