Podcap: Cleveland 100, Charlotte 98 (or, Peppermint Hot Rods)
2019-12-19Weird subtitle to a weird game. Cleveland played like hot rods, zooming out to a 24 point lead by the early third quarter. Then they let their foot off the gas, and were dusted by a 19 point fourth quarter explosion by Terry Rozier. That combined with 16 second half turnovers by Cleveland fueled a ridiculous Charlotte comeback attempt over the game’s final eight minutes. Cleveland got super sloppy after going up big in the third and just started giving the ball away and not playing defense. Despite trading Rozier triples for one or two free throw possessions down the stretch, the Cavs looked like they had it salted away with a two point lead and the ball with eight seconds left. All they had to do was play the free throw game and run out the clock to hold of the Hornets… but then Collin sexton dribbled the ball off his foot out of bounds. Oy. Then, Rozier got a wide open look after a monster fourth, yet somehow missed. Check it out below.
Fortunately, David Wood, Tom Pestak, and Nate Smith were around to take in this very weird Cavalier game, and break down what went well and what went wrong. What’s with the subtitle? Well, Tom spent a long time late in the podcast talking about the Linux distro “Peppermint” and a short time early in the podcast talking about Chris Parnell’s tattoo in the movie Hot Rod. Like I said. This one’s weird.
We went off on the Cavs, John Beilein, Kyrie Irving, the midseason tournament idea, the rise of the upperclassman in the NBA draft, Kevin Love’s defense, his untradeability, and whether teams would rather have Marvin Williams. And that was just the NBA talk. The non-NBA talk ranged from the the problems with teaching youth shooting and the dangers of playing “knock-out,” the scourge of corporate email, the inefficiency of large organizations, Rocket league, e-sports Raspberry Pi, whether or not to tuck a t-shirt into your jeans, and rec league basketball.
As for the Cavs, they were led by Collin Sexton’s 23, Cedi’s 18, KLove’s 16/14/7, and TT’s double-double, while Terry Rozier finished with 35 for the Hornets. Check us out below, on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, Tunein, or Spotify.
This sucks for Nwaba.

Yeah, not good. Good player off the bench.
Torn achilles. Poor guy.
ALOT OF GM’S DRINK THE “KOOLAID ” —TALK THEMSLVES INTO DRAFTING AN INFERIOR PLAYER WHILE CONVINCING THEMSELVES TO PASS ON A SUPERIOR PLAYER —“STLYE VS SUBSTANCE “
Sigh.

Any comments on this pod (however harsh) would be welcome. I feel like the sound quality went up but the flow/and some other issues went down. Tom said we had some drift where it seemed like we were talking over each other in the longer sections. The mic breathing was cringy for me to listen to as well.
I definitely noticed the talking over each other. Figured it might be a delay or audio issue between all of your connections.
It’s completely constructive criticism, but the out of sync talk made it difficult to listen. The other stuff doesn’t bother me. I know glitches like that are more annoying to you than me.
Noticed the same especially during the middle of the podcast. I will say it’s never been an issue on other podcasts to my knowledge, at least from what I can remember.
GOOD POINT MIKEO—-ALSO REMEMBER –( I FEEL THE PAIN ) –WHO ARE COACHES WERE AT THE TIME—-“CLUELESS AND LONGINBARF ‘ AM SURE THAT ALSO IFLUENCED HIS PLAY AS A CAV ——–AM SURE ” LEBRON’S SHADOW ” CAN BE INTIMADATING THOUGH TOO
Milwaukee George Hill is what I expected Cavs George Hill to be. He had his moments with the Cavs, but nothing like he’s brought to the Bucks. I think he was one of those guys who was overawed playing with Lebron.
Wiseman leaves Memphis. Played three games. Going to be raw as hell. Also this year’s class is being compared to 2013. Cool.

A buddy of mine got rocket league a few years ago. Fun game, but I agree the difference between the good or average players we played against and casual players like us was astonishing. I feel like we would have games where we scored like 8 goals against players that were clearly brand new to it. Then we would have games where we could barely touch the ball because suddenly we were playing experts that were doing things that seemed impossible, like consistently pinpointing goals from midfield while hitting the ball in midair or literally dribbling around us or over… Read more »
Im in the top 20% of players in solo 3s and top 10% in 2v2 and the difference between me and people in the top 5% is ridiculous. If i played a 1v1 game against a pro player i wouldnt score and they might drop 20 goals on me in a 5 minute game.
Gonna disagree with Nate on MKG. His shot is so terrible he’s barely an NBA player. His layup % most of his career is terrible, let alone from distance. And he was the 2nd pick of his draft….ugh…
Didn’t realize he was that bad at everything other than dunking. Watch him go to spurs and figure it out. He’s a special defensive player that can literally guard all 5 spots, and has been useful at times, but can’t sustain any offensive consistency.
If he hasn’t made much progress offensively by now, I don’t think it’s happening. He is 26, but this is his 8th year. That’s way too long to be stuck in neutral.
We didn’t make a big enough deal out if this block.

Sorry guys. Too close to mic for the first part of this pod. The wind noise gets better.
