Live Thread: Hornets @ Cavs
2020-01-02The Cleveland Cavaliers start out the new year in the friendly confines of Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse as they host Michael Jordan‘s Charlotte Hornets.
The Hornets had surprised a bit by hanging onto playoff contention early in the season despite a terrible point differential. The bloom has begun to come off the rose a bit, as they have lost six in a row, a streak that started with their loss to the Cavaliers December 18th. During that game, the Cavaliers were in control throughout, only to squeak out a win after a furious Hornets rally cut Cleveland’s lead to just two points.
The Cavs have done a good job of playing well against opponents with similar talent levels. They are currently 9-5 against teams under .500, and three of those losses are to an Orlando Magic team that is still currently the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. The team should be healthy tonight, but the first game after a road trip is often a bit of a trap.

I just don’t get how Cedi goes 7/8 from the field and ends up with the least minutes of any starter and only 8 shots I understand Cedi’s limitations, I really do, but the Cavs use of him this season baffles me. That warly stretch where Cedi hit a 3 and 2 twos from picture perfect play and added an assist on a 3 was a vision of this team’s offense at its best. TT was straight awful that game. 100% complicit in Cody Zeller going off in The first. Missing bunnies and dunks and terrible tos.
TT has been great this year, but his inability to cleanly catch passes is a serious annoyance…
8 assists 1 TO for Garland…pretty nice game for him…looked good driving, too…
he could’ve had a real superstar game if he makes any of those open 3s he missed in the 2nd half.
Right before the 4 minute mark Sexton dribbled the air out of the ball and wasted a possession leading to Charolette tying the game. That was the monent that I knew the Cavs were probably screwed.
didn’t realize that’s how it played out… but yeah, no-pass Sexton possession was awful.
I appreciate the stuff that Sexton does well, but it’s so much easier to picture Garland leading a good NBA team…even as a skinny high school kid, as he is right now…
Beilein saying how pleased he was with the 2nd team…as he should be…
plus/minus shows how drastic the difference was between the starters vs. bench + Garland.
8 turnovers from Sexton and TT are unacceptable.
Were they mostly from forcing the issue and getting into trouble or pure sloppiness?

Wow rozier really likes playing us. Seems like so many people played well if just looking at boxscores. Looks like more troubles closing based off this thread. Charlotte almost came back last time too.
The bad finishing seems to be poor execution of gameplan, leading to winging it for inefficient shots and turnovers. Cool heads prevail – hopefully they’ll learn this in time.
MO of young teams. At least they’ve been competitive against teams they should be of late.

Charlotte just that touch more mature when it counted. Garland and KPJ continue to show progress, Cedi solid. Fun game all said and done.
Yup, 26 assists, shot over 50% from the field, won the rebounding battle… just a lack of clutch plays.
Dang… Sexton got a shot off… damn, Love and Garland are 2 of the best 3 point shooters on the team, they make half the looks they missed in the 2nd half, it’s a W.

My favorite thing all game has been KPJ consistently hitting Henson and Nance as the short roller in the p/r. Cavs have failed at that with their starters all year.
