Live Thread: Cavs @ Clippers
2020-01-14Nance is back! He’ll be limited to 24 minutes tonight, but he’s stepping in while Kevin Love sits for rest. Ante’s still out due to illness, so maybe we’ll see Henson again? KPJ still out, but I saw something that said second week of February at the earliest. As for the Clips, no Paul George.
L.A. is disappointing a bit this year, currently fifth in a tightly packed (after the Lakers) Western Conference. There’s just a half game separating second through fifth. They’re just 6-4 in their last 10 games. The have four guys scoring at least 19 points a game (Kawhi, PG13, Lou Williams, and 2020 Cavs free agent candidate Montrezl Harrell). There’s a big dropoff after that and if Dante Exum can do better than the 20 minute one point performance he pitched against the Lakers, the Nance/Henson/Exum/Garland lineups can do some damage. I still expect a convincing loss as PBev and Kawhi will cause a LOT of turnovers.
Meanwhile, I’m enjoying the Grizzlies/Rockets game. Memphis might be my favorite non-Cavalier team. With human pogo stick Brandon Clarke, rookie of the year Ja Morant, J-Jax, and Jonas Valanciunas, it’s a super fun team. And yes, I’d still take Clarke over Garland, though ideally the Cavs would’ve moved up the second pick to grab Brandon who I fully expect to be a star inside of two seasons. So go Grizz. And go Cavs.
Hope those Delly trey gets him going in the second half of season. Really want him in the association next year.

I like Garland tonight, but he’s ballhogging a bit much. If nothing’s there he needs to run the O through other guys.

Kawhi getting so many star calls tonight. He used to be one of my favorite players, but he turned out to be a weasel. I really dislike this Clippers team. It’s weird cuz they have a lot of guys I like: Trez, Zubac, PBev. They’re a fun team when they’re not playing your squad. I also am not a big Doc fan and I loathe Balmer.

Feels like they’re now missing KPJ’s energy and playmaking…. especially the backups.
It’s too obvious most of the Cavs bench doesn’t really want to shoot.

Positives:
Lived watching Sexton outrace Beverly on that fast break.
Cedi has been money. Want to see the Cavs continue to run offense through him in the second half.
If McKinnie and Henson were both a bit better on offense, the Cavs could start stealing a lot of games…their defense and effort is huge.
On a back-to-back, we need more henson and less TT in the second half. TT 0-3 with three boards and no points -16. Sexton on pace for 26 shots -13. Nance on a 24 minute limit and played 13 minutes that half. WTF.
