Live Thread: Warriors @ Cavs
2020-02-01The two teams who’s rivalry defined the NBA for four straight years face each other again tonight, and things could not be any more different. Gone are LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Andre Iguodala. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are both injured. JR Smith, Richard Jefferson, Iman Shumpert, Shaun Livingston, and Andrew Bogut are all retired and/or out of the NBA. At 10-39, the Golden State Warriors have the worst record in the NBA, while the Cleveland Cavaliers are tied for the second-worst mark at 13-36. The fall has been fast for two teams that last competed against one another in the NBA Finals just two seasons ago.
Now, the Cavaliers have begun to rebuild around young players such as Darius Garland, Collin Sexton, Kevin Porter Jr. and Cedi Osman, while looking to possibly trade veterans such as Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson. Meanwhile, the Warriors have leaned on veterans Draymond Green and D’Angelo Russell, while also trying to develop young players such as Eric Paschall, Omari Spellman, and Jordan Poole as they hope that this season is just a one-year blip on the radar before they return to contention.
Despite what has happened to these two teams, this is still Cavs-Warriors. The rivalry may be dead, but there’s more than enough nostalgia to make the game worth watching. Be sure to turn in to cheer on our Cavaliers, and be sure to share your thoughts here at Cavs: The Blog!
Sexton cuts it to 24…
Insult to injury – Steph Curry sitting on the sidelines laughing and clowning around.
Lol. Collin swatted.

The NBA app on my phone is refusing to open. It’s like it doesn’t want me to look at the horrifying stats.
I’m done. This team is becoming impossible to watch after the first half. Shameful.
44-17 in the third quarter….

Wow, most depressing game of the year???
Hard to think of a worse performance, although there has been a few bad 3Qs this last month.
23….man.
I don’t know that LNJ is better than Love, but he has been playing better than Love.
Love not much energy before he was pulled. Couldn’t hit a shot.
5 chapters in, FYI
LNJ consistently ranked higher in RPM over Love this year.
I think LNJ has a higher floor, lower ceiling than Love…at least this year…
And it’s back to 20.
hey thanks simmo, watching the national game since i don’t wanna mess with a stream. Draymond teaching the Cavs how to pass LMFAO
A short run and they can get it back to 10 by 3Q. Not holding out much hope though, working too hard for their buckets.
Chriss tries a punk move, shut down. Too funny.
Nice drive McKinnie.
Exum keeping Cavs just in touch all on his own. Showing effort, but Russell is on fire.
Exum with his patented take-no-prisoners drive. Ouch.
This has become unwatchable.
Cavs cannot be bothered running.
Just tuned in. Was that sexton who got swatted?
Wow, some super terrible basketball over three minutes to go into the half with the deficit…
That was about as bad as it gets. AC was apoplectic.
Another really nice game for Sexton so far…
Moving nicely around the pick to shut down Russell just then. Tenacious.
MAN KLOVE JUST HAMPERING ANY VIABLE TRADES FOR THE CAVS TO AT LEAST TRY TO GET A DECENT PLAYER
It’s. Over. It was nice while it lasted. Two more years then a buyout.
COMING IN LATE —-SEXTON SHOWING –” THE INNER FIRE ” ABOUT NOT BEING SELECTED TO RISING STARS —GO YOUNG BULL !!
Man, Porter’s shot looks good tonight…
So does Sexton’s…
why the early Cedi sub? just to get KPJ close to 30 mins?
Foul trouble
Very happy to see Chriss suiting up for the Dubs…
Oh yeah – and Klay said that they were going to revitalise him. Good luck with that.
Looks another game with no side playing D.
Bray playing with a bunch of stiffs doesn’t get away with as much dumb stuff…weird…
It’s always a big deal when a great like Chriss makes the trip home…
Let’s work on getting Bray more T’s….he’s getting close to 16…
Side tangent. If we don’t get James Wiseman, Obi Toppin has become my clear number two in the draft. Athletic. Has shown some ability to hit the three. Good finisher. Can bring the ball up the floor. Quick footwork in the post. Blazingly fast drop step. Will fill a need if TT or love goes. Dayton flyer. Draft stock rising. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up as high as third. Watched the Dayton Richmond game and was very impressed. Wondering if Tom has seen him live and his thoughts. I feel like Tom mentioned him at one point on… Read more »
Good pick. I am high on Obi as well.
One rebuild strategy is to get a group of young guys, get them playing well together, and THEN use that as a lure for a FA. The Nets actually pulled it off. Though NY certainly helped.
If you go that route, you cannot afford swings & misses. Obi seems a safe bet to be a rotation level guy.
Agreed… numbers love him.
Oh boy. Really need to win this one. Feel like the warriors are tanking hard even when factoring in the injuries.
Dubs in a weird spot. Never got to see much of Curry/DeRo together. Could that work with Klay at SF? Or do you try to deal DeRo?
Steph back in a month-ish.
I’d bet the house they try *hard* to trade DLo and whatever lottery pick they get for some established star.
Agreed. But the summer seems likelier to me.
Dubs do have a bit of a gap now for last. Wins:
10 = GSW
——–
13 = Hawks, Cavs, Knicks
———
15 = Minny
16 = Charlotte, Wash
17 = Pistons
18 = Kings
19 = Bulls
20 = Pels, Suns
21 = Magic (PO), Spurs, Nets (PO)
——-Cavs win total at current pace——
22 = Blazers
Yeah, I bet on draft night. They might not get an offer they like, but I bet they push hard.
