Podcap: Cleveland 127, Atlanta 105 (or Triple Double Double)
2020-02-13Cleveland went into the all-star break with a bang. The Cavs posted a rare triple double double, in that they had three players with double digit points and rebounds: Andre Drummond (14 & 15), Larry Nance Jr. (23 & 12), and Tristan Thompson (27 & 11)! With monster games by all three, and an insane 3-3 from downtown shooting performance by Canadian Dynamite, the Cavs three big men blew us a away as they cut, ooped, and rebounded their way to a domination of the Atlanta front court, and a 55-38 rebounding advantage.
To celebrate a rare victory, Nate Smith and Tom Pestak welcomed our prodigal brother Eli Kim back to the podcast booth after an eight month absence! Yep, the fingers behind @CavsTheTweets was in studio and we covered topics ranging as far afield as a Trae Young three point attempt. We covered the brutal Clips loss, and the jubilant win against Atlanta, and then oscillated wildly: Korean cinema (go see Parasite!); what players have been in the dunk contest and the three point contest; how we see the playoffs shaping up; why do the Cavs keep nominating Collin Sexton for player of the month; when will KPJ start; what makes The Office so good; why is Vince Carter on the Hawks; the Cavs are a top ten revenue team; and so so much more. Happy Valentine’s day, Everyone!

Sexton showed fairly well. When no one is playing defense, he looks good.
Horace grant!
I GUESS YOU ARE CORRECT MIKEO—-JUST THOUGHT / ASSUMED CLIPPERS HAD CUT INTO THEIR L.A. FANS WITH THEIR SUCCESS RECENTLY AND THE LAKERS ROUGH 6 YRS OF UGLY BASKETBALL
LAKERS VS CLIPPERS —REALLY NO HOME CT ADVANTAGE —SO I CAN SEE WHERE EACH TEAM IS NOT OVERLY CONCERNED ABOUT WACH OTHER’S RECORD —-HEALTH IS PRIORITY # 1
It’s a pretty serious home court advantage for the Lakers if they play each other. That place will be all Lakers every game.
Thanks for the entertaining podcast, guys. It was definitely nice to get a win before the break. Watching the end of the Clippers/Celtics game last night, Leonard was abjectly awful. It seemed every Leonard possession resulted in a turnover or a very flat jump shot that clanked off the front of the rim. Meanwhile Morris and Williams were (occasionally) making big shots. Since I was rooting for the Clips, i wanted the ball in anyone’s hands but Leonard’s. He wasn’t able to slow down Tatum in the least either. His performance made me think the Lakers will be representing the… Read more »
I don’t think we’ll see what the clippers really are until about mid to late March. Of course they still might take the entire regular season casually which I think would be a mistake. Danger of not gelling/not coming in to the playoffs at peak focus a la the last two years of the Shaq kobe lakers. Lakers and Clips have about equal odds in my opinion. I will be interested to see what playoff lbj looks like now. Whether he can keep it up for multiple series after trying on d in the regular season more than he has… Read more »
Also there is a way to make Sexton 6th man without stepping on egos. Pose it as a challenge. Frame it in a way that makes the case the cavs desperately need scoring off the bench more than anything…..which is true. Give him the reins to his own unit and tell him to do what he does and tell him he will still get around 30mpg and more offensive freedom. One of two things will happen. Either he will take it as a slight and prove himself to truly be a selfish non-team player. In which case his defense might… Read more »
FINE LINE NATE REWARDING A PLAYER FOR HIS PERFORMANCE -( WHICH COMPARABLY IS BETTER THAN OTHERS / ROOKIE / 2ND YEAR PLAYERS ) AND OVER-HYPING HIM TO WHERE THE PLAYER THINKS HE HAS TO DO EVERYTHING / SCORE 30 PPG —HOPING COACHING STAFF HAS HAD OR WILL HAVE THIS DISCUSSION WITH HIM————AGREE WITH THE CHARGE PLAYERS / 10 DAY CONTRACTS —MORE A REWARD FOR THEM —————JASON IF DRUMMOND /T.T. / AND ANTE GO I WOULD HARDLY THINK THE CAVS WOULD THEN TRADE LOVE ALSO —REALLY EXPOSING THEM OF LACK OF A BIGS…….ALSO THE CAVS COULD DRAFT WISEMAN ———TIME WILL TELL

I mean he should be on that team. Miles Bridges is terrible. He has one of the lowest rpms in the entire league and he has a much more limited role. Lower rpm than KPJ or Garland. Nickeil Alexander Walker has been abjectly awful and has an extremely limited role. Josh Okogie is terrible, has a worse rpm than Sexton, and a more limited role. I get they are on it due to positional requirements and format of world vs US, but the format is dumb. Who should be on it instead? Colby White and Garland are god awful. Divencenzo?… Read more »
Yeah, I care very little about the Rising Stars stuff, but no question he should be in it.
Big Ragu all day.
He’s about the only one I could make a case for. But even then….you replaced him on this team and I would guess he would be a net negative too.
Cavs seem to be cycling through the Charge roster to look at guys on 10 days. Newman & Macura now.
I think it’s a look/ reward. I saw a charge game a week ago. They are stacked down there. Levi Randolph had a MONSTER dunk. Much better vibe/team down in Canton than last year.
The situation with the bigs is pretty fluid. TT is a FA. Drummond could be. Love could get traded. Zizic is a FA. Nance is the only guy I can say will be back for sure.
ANTE / ODD MAN OUT –( UNLESS T.T.DOESN’T RESIGN AND THEYWANT 4 BIGS )—-IF NOT STILL BELIEVE ANTE WILL MAKE A NICE BENCH / ROLE POST PLAYER FOR SOME TEAM
Thinks gonna go back to Europe. Can make more money there.

POST GAME INTERVIEW WITH DRE/ T.T. / LNJ IS FANTASTIC—ALOT OF POSITIVE VIBES THERE ——–DO YOU THINK CAVS TRY TO KEEP THIS CORE TOGETHER
Just watched it too Nomad – it would be great if Drummond could stay. I guess if the team show a good trajectory from here on, they’ve got a chance.
I think there is a good chance he picks up his option.
Cavs by age:
19-23: Porter (19), Garland (20), Sexton (21), Windler (23), Zizic (23).
24-28: Osman (24), Exum (24), Drummond (26), Nance Jr. (27), Fonzie (27), TT (28).
29-33: Delly (29), Love (31).
34+: No one.
MIKEO–JUST READ MORE ABOUT KHAYES IN MOCK DRAFT—-HIS STOCK APPEARS TO BE RISING —SO YEAH YOU MIGHT BE ON TO SOMETHING WITH YOUR DRAFT WISH
Tankathon has us taking him if we fall past 3rd. Pretty raw & cannot shoot yet. Physically intriguing.
I tend to favor guys who can shoot & run the offense, even if they are not as athletic (Haliburton).
Still, Sexton showing marginal improvement. Garland better than latey. 13 dimes between them. KPJ good again. But TT, Nance, & Drummond stole the show.
Great game for LNJ. Loved KPJ. Always nice to see guys play hard, which is a big reason I’m not so high on watching Love out there. He’ll play hard at times, but checked out more often.
Give me Killian Hayes in the draft and I’m good.

Regarding Drummond and lobs, think I heard it on one of the FTS podcasts. It was something like 14 lob, which might sound like a lot, but that would be like one every three games.
A brief comment on the Clippers game – although there were several days off prior to that game, Drummond said they had had no practice time. I was surprised, but it helps explain the disjointed team play.
