Live Thread: Cavs @ Pelicans
2020-02-28ZIOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN IN DA HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!! This should be fun. Cavs have won 3-4 and unlocked actual size and flexibility in the lineups. Meanwhile the Pelicans are just three games out of a playoff spot with the Grizzlies and Trailblazers flailing ahead of them.
Leading the way for the flock of Pelicans, Zion Williamson and his 23/7/2 nightly line with a 61 TS%. Yowza. Brandon Ingram’s 25 a game and Holiday’s 19 don’t hurt either. They are definitely a big three that could be giving opponents nightmares for years. This feels like a big scoring game for both teams, and I’m predicting that Jru’s experience is the key to a 122-120 Pelicans victory.
Out for the Cavs: Drummond (calf strain), McKinnie (heel), and Dante Exum (ankle). Out for the Pels, Kenrich Williams (back). Go Cavs!
Even thru 3. Shorthanded on a back to back, I will take it.

Other than Sexton no one scores consistently and team defense is lousy….Cavs really need to stress getting help at 3/4 positions moving forward

Pels shot 70% or something in the first period. Ball dribbled down the middle of the floor over and over again. Didn’t see much effort here from my recliner.

Last few games illustrate importance of context when evaluating players and teams. Game by game doesn’t matter. Only in season trends worth noting probably happen over 10-20 game stretches.
Garland with a nice explosion. Not a great leaper but quick laterally and a nice first step. Gets to top speed quickly.
hopefully year 2 off of knee surgery will result in even more explosiveness.

He’s gotten his shot blocked a lot but his shooting has been superb.
He’s becoming a deadeye shooter…
He can be frustrating mainly because he isn’t usually this efficient and more often than not misses obvious assists. Perfect sixth man. I don’t really want a 6’1” guard as a primary option.

hardly works on defense… and his offense isn’t nearly good enough to offset it… and he’s 21. yeah, he’s young, but his passing and defense won’t ever cut it. Hope he improves though.
This is why the pels have the record they do. Multiple chances to close it out. Multiple times the cavs have cut it down to close to 10.
No idea how the Cavs are within 12…it’s flabbergasting…

So here’s what I don’t understand. Why isn’t Cedi pressuring the ball there? He’s hanging back and giving Ball a panoramic view of the whole floor. Get in his grill and speed him up. If he sags, Ball can just take his time and find the best available shot.
Probably coached to sit back and let him have the shot and prevent any dribble penetration?
