Podcast Episode 225: Lotto Returns
2020-08-21THE CAVS WIN THE LOTTERY AGAIN! Ok. They didn’t technically win the lottery. But hopefully all the players we hate will be gone by the time they pick at number five. David Wood, Elija Kim, and Nate Smith live-podded the lottery, and then Jude Elysiam (Ryan) subbed out for David to mock the whole draft. That was just the start of the marathon as we broke down the Cavs roster and figured out who would remain a Cav after the coming off-season and at the end of the next season. Then we picked all the current playoff series. WHEW.
Here’s our mock draft. Tune in to listen to us break down all the picks.
- Timberwolves: Anthony Edwards
- Warriors: James Wiseman
- Hornets: LaMelo Ball
- Bulls: Tyrese Haliburton
- Cavs: Deni Avdija
- Hawks: Devin Vassel
- Pistons: Killian Hayes
- Knicks: Onyeka Okongwu
- Wizards: Obi Toppin
- Suns: Isaac Okoro
- Spurs: Aaron Nesmith
- Kings: Aleksej Pokuševski
- Pelicans: Patrick Williams
- Celtics: Saddiq Bey

Doncic is the real deal. And it was obvious he had *IT* before the draft. I cannot necessarily define *IT*. But I know *IT* when I see *IT*. As for unprecedented……I am a bit skeptical on that. Though at age 21, perhaps. Wilt won MVP as a rookie. Magic won a title as a rookie at age 20, and went 42/15/7 in the clincher, playing center, with the reigning MVP, Kareem, out injured. Kareem in year 2 won MVP, Finals MVP, and the title. Duncan won a title & Finals MVP in year two. Mikan won a title & led… Read more »
As you said, Luka’s age is relevant.
Your NBA legend examples are from when those guys played 4 years of college ball before getting to the NBA.
Magic and bird were not four year college players.
Sorry, good catch. Bird was 3 years and Magic was 2. My error. Though i still think my point is valid, even if my count was off.
Holy crap. Doncic might win MVP next season. I’d jump off a bridge if I were a Kings fan.
On a freaking sprained ankle.
The kid’s not scared of anyone
But Plaoyoff P is
Luca carrying the Mavs… hopefully enough in the tank for the 4th
yep. He definitely had enough in the tank for OT too.
Wow.

JR looks pretty cooked to me. Not surprising, he looked pretty cooked in his last appearances for the Cavs.
He’s forked
Good to hear you guys back in the podcast booth.
I’m predicting Clippers vs Bucks for the Finals – just think Clippers have too many bodies to throw at LeBron and AD’s inexperience in his first real deep run in the playoffs will show. Giannis will “Lebronto” the Raptors before Kawhi gets a chance to.
If the Cavs board has Avdija, Okoro, Vassell, and Okongwu, I’m good with that. I get the rationale behind each of these choices so I wouldn’t be upset.
I’d be Ok with that mock. I was hoping to end up 4 or 5, as none of the consensus top 3 picks excite me.
I’ll take Avdija or Okongwu, basically no one else. I like Toppin as a player, but not for the Cavs, can’t afford yet another player who can’t play D. I like Halliburton a lot, but can’t take a PG three years in a row (we can’t….right? Can we?)
Avdija or Okongwu. Anything else is a fail.
Haliburton would be great with sexton: can run an offense and defend but can also play without the ball. Also has size to actually defend. I’d be fine with the pick. Actually have him rated in my top two tied with Avdija.
His makeup reminds me of SGA (who we whiffed on in favor of Sexton). Maybe the Gods gave us a second chance to right the wrong.
Eh. I like Sexton.
One dimensional. Not a guy you can build a team around. A good role player as off the bench scorer. That’s his ceiling.
And SGA openly refused to work out for Cleveland.
I’d rather take hard work, character, and the desire to be here over a little more possible talent.
I like Okongwu better than Toppin and both better than Wiseman.
At guard, I like Haliburton more than Hayes, and both more than Ball & Edwards.
At SF, I like Vassell & Okoro better than Avdija, but am OK with any of them, or even a reach for Bey.
Call me risk averse. I just want someone I think can help us win games and has a reliable NBA skill & plays smart & hard.
This is amazing. https://twitter.com/Super70sSports/status/1297174474190721024?s=20
I’ve been watching the NBA since the later ’70s, and I don’t remember this. Might have been deep sixed (for good reason) before I started watching.
Wow! Just wow.
I need to find out if my dad remembers this.
Unbelievable.
