Live Thread: Cavs @ Celtics

Another day, another winnable game by the Cavs. The Cavs missed the Nets’ best player last game, and now they’ll dodge Jason Tatum tonight who’s out due to Covid protocols. Meanwhile, only Love and Delly remain the only regular roster players on the injury list.

Due to the Cavs’ front court dominance, they should be dumping the ball inside early to try to draw fouls on our old friend Tristan Thompson, who they most keep off the offensive boards. If there’s a guy I’m worried about tonight, it’s the underrated Robert Williams III, whose athleticism could give the Cavs’ some issues. But the big issue is Jaylen Brown who’s averaging 28.5 over the last four games in Tatum’s absence, to go along with Marcus Smarts 22.5 and 5.5 assists, and Kemba Walker who always gives the Cavs fits.

If the Cleveland can keep from turning the ball over and leading to easy baskets for the C’s their defense should keep the Celtics’ recently anemic offense under control. Does Collin Sexton get to 3000 points? Does he continue his 20 point streak? Does the decision to bring Darius Garland off bench hold a portent of the future? Does Tristan Thompson get up for facing his old team?

We’ll find out all of this and more  over the next couple hours. It should be a good one.
