Live Thread: Cavs vs Celtics
2021-03-17Count me among those who were pleased with the improved effort from the Cavs last night. While Jimmy Butler ate their lunch, there was a lot of growth and rhythm developed among the Cavs players, who lost to a team that looked every bit like last season’s Eastern Conference champions. Tonight, the Cavs play a St. Patty’s Day challenge against a Boston team that has been pretty up and down this year and definitely struggled on the road.
Cleveland will be missing the usual suspects of Love, Prince, and Delly. Tristan Thompson, Kemba Walker, and Romeo Langford are out for the Celtics. Hopefully some home cooking and some rhythm will help the Cavs woeful shooting, and get them back into a better offensive and defensive groove. I’m predicting a surprise win for the Wine and Gold as they turn the luck of the Irish against the Leprechauns.

no problem, it’s a good thought… i think the best thing we can do right now is develop pieces like Windler and Wade as bench guys, even Stevens too.

not worried about either… Windler just needs minutes, like 20+… Allen’s fine, decision-making, FTs could be better, but he might just be hitting a wall also teams have adjusted coverage to him, flooding the paint because of our poor 3pt shooting.

Never clearer to me that what made the Cavs so hard to handle for opponents (and fun!) in those first 10 games of the season was that they were constantly pushing the pace, playing aggressive D and then using their youth and athleticism to try to turn pretty much every offensive possession into a fast break. Plays to our core’s strengths (esp. Sexton) and helps compensate for the talent discrepancy we have to face with pretty much every other team, that rears its ugly head whenever we’re in the half-court. great point re: fast break, but I’d also say that DG just had a good game in the half court for a lot of the game, especially the first half and down the stretch in the 2nd half, although that was a little shakier.
nice to see this Cavs win but man they are as inconsistent as ever so its tough to gauge the growth/development because you dont know what type of a team will come out for the game. It could be as simple as this team just plays better at home than the road, but the Celtics arent any better/worse than the other three opponents the Cavs got crushed by recently. young players inconsistent by their nature…i agree with you that i do think coaching staff share part of the blame for that though. I think they’ve mishandled both DG and Okoro, and JB at least admitted it about Okoro.

Watched in part while making dinner. Had the celtics broadcasters. What is it with Boston or New England culture that mandates the most biased broadcasters in all of sports. Something in the water? Even Heinsohn’s replacement is like a Heinsohn clone.
Bostonians pretty much lead the world in arrogant dorkiness, beating out New York and Texas.
It’s something of a recent phenomenon. The Red Sox and Patriots for years were the lovable losers, but as each team has won championships, they have become more like the Celtics with a sense of entitlement.
Always nice to be on the CtB boards for a tight win. I don’t take it for granted!!

Couldn’t watch this because I only have NBA-app games and it was blacked out because against Boston. Seems like a nice game. Sexton is really good when everyone is tired. Double-overtimes, back-to-backs, etc.
