Live Thread: Cavs @ Bulls
2021-03-24Its the night you’ve been waiting for. The Cavs take on the NBA’s greatest unheralded player Thaddeus Young. To beat Nate Smith’s NBA spirit animal, the Cavs will have to do it without Collin Sexton, Kevin Love, and Matthew Dellavedova. That’s a tall order. Let’s hope the Cavs are up to the challenge.
Tonight’s starters on @FOXSportsCLE! pic.twitter.com/Fdti6WT9CX
— Cleveland Cavaliers (@cavs) March 24, 2021
Garland, Sexton, Okoro, Love, Allen
Delly, Cedi, Prince, LNJ, Hartenstein
Dotson, Windler, Wade
Cook on a 10 day (#14)
2 way: Stevens, Thomas
I am optimistic we win without Collin against LA. The rare cloudy night in LA. No stars out.

That Laker team without Lebron and AD is almost Twolves level. But I’d take nothing for granted for this Cavs team on a west coast road game. I don’t suppose Hartenstein will be available, so backup center will be a shark show.
Probably will only be able to watch the first half, at most, since I work early in the morning.
Aldridge bought out for $5.8 mil. Dre should be in that neighborhood.
Hartenstein has a WEIRD statistical profile. I never remember seeing a bench big that had a positive +/- all of his first three years in the league without getting more PT- the reason is obvious he fouls 10 times per 100 possessions (averaging 2 a game this year in 9 mpg!). Guys who foul at those rates tend to be negatives simply because FTs are still the best shots in the game, and he also turns it over a lot- and you just expect guys who could and turn it over a lot to just bleed points. But his high… Read more »
the fouling can be partially explained by him being only 22…. not unreasonable to think he could improve in that regard with more experience.
Not reall, there are very few players who average 10 fouls per 100 at any age. Even high foul players like Mitchell Robinson rarely average even 8/100 at any age.
LMFAO OK you’re right, he will definitely not improve.
I didn’t say he won’t improve, I said you can’t claim that being 22 causes a high foul rate.
I’m saying he’s only played 1 season, barely over 500 minutes total in his career, part of being young is playing crappy defense that causes you to foul.
and i guess you missed the word “partially”.
10 per 100 is an insane number. That’s like fouling out almost twice a game.
Chriss can now disappoint a new team.

Quiche!
I guess Draymond found the Chriss rehab program to challenging.
Chriss just has one issue, really: he can’t play.
Oh boy, Popovich is gonna lose it with this guy
So, if I was making out a depth chart:
Garland, Sexton, Okoro, Love, Allen
Delly, Cedi, Prince, LNJ, Hartenstein
Cook (10 day), Dotson, Windler, Wade, Open
2 way: Thomas, Stevens
I’d imagine we could pick up someone via buyouts, but probably we roll with who we have and give Stevens/Thomas a look for the rest of the year.

at least he gets to go home i suppose!
Lowry stays put.
Dipo to Heat for Bradley, Olynyk, and pick swap.
Aldridge & Drummond to get bought out.
I’d note that the Spurs could not find a trade for LMA that they liked.
Dipo for Bradley/olynyk seems like a good flier.
Yep. Just have to pay him if they want to keep him.
Congrats to the NBA for letting Drummond go to the Lakers for free. Here’s to you, idiots.

I mean, the Dre situation did not end well, but any error made was not too costly. A 2nd?
Once we made the Allen deal, the writing was on the wall for the league to see.
I’ll gladly take Allen & Prince over a 2nd and the bad salary we could maybe have gotten for Dre.
Yeah it’s whatever. I do think it’s funny one of these contenders is going to pick up a defensive player like that for basically nothing.
Toronto trades Terrence Davis to Sac for a 2nd. 2nd roster clearing move for Toronto.
With Dipo headed to Miami and Hill in Philly, looks like Lowry to Lakers?
supposedly Lowry going nowhere, deals dead.
I feel like by sitting Dre we destroyed any trade value he might have. The buyout was inevitable after that and teams just decided to wait us out.
Strategic error by Koby.
not sure if i believe that, but maybe if he plays better offensively in that stretch they benched him, i’d be more inclined to agree.
For a different team, a contending team that needs another defensive presence, and who has offensive stars and a pecking order, he has a ton of value. A la the nets, or lakers, maybe even the mavs. But they didn’t need to trade for him. After all, if he is sitting then it indicates cavs are completely done with him and subsequently he has low or no value to the cavs going forward. If cavs have zero intention of keeping him then they would have no leverage to entice any trade whatsoever for a guy on an expiring. No leverage… Read more »
hey no doubt they screwed up handling him… which is why i want Koby gone…. koby’s pissed off 3 of our most talented players in his short tenure.
but that’s divorced from the question of his trade value, which just wasn’t high because he’s criminally overpaid.
Contract matching and expiring nature of deal made things difficult no doubt. Unless a team had a large trade exception they would have had to have large bad contracts to send back with picks.
yeah, interesting thing i’ve seen is someone on twitter saying Cavs didn’t want to take on long money, which I don’t get, only guy we have that we need to pay is Allen.
sadly a possible indication of valuing Sexton WAY too much.
the leverage is being the team that gets him, not another team. That is all there ever was. Everyone always knew this, not Koby’s fault.
The leverage was Drummond’s bird rights allowing teams to retain him longer term. Drummond or his agent has to be completely oblivious to act this way in a contract year.
true, but maybe he just wants to win now or at least control his own destiny? *shrug*
You dont control your destiny by making teams not want you.
Sounds like a lot of teams want him so don’t get that reasoning.
Want him in the short term that is.
yeah good point, two of the top contenders no less.
A bunch of teams want him for the Vet minimum, and basically none of them have cap space next year, so they only control he has would be choosing a team that can’t pay more than the MLE after this year- and he already had that control this offseason if he wanted it badly.
Doesn’t have to resign with a contender. Boosts his value towards other teams if he proves to be a big piece on a winning team.
I am guessing they didn’t feel anyone was going to give him the kind of money he probably wants unless he can show he can be a major piece somewhere on a contending team, which is probably true. Which means getting off the cavs if the relationship/playing time is gone.
Of course if he goes to a non-contender that idea is invalid.
However that could have been achieved by playing for the Cavs and talking to them behind the scenes and still being professional up until the trade deadline. Basically he burned a bridge with the team holding his bird rights (which now means no S&T even if the Cavs wouldn’t offer him a dime) so he can only sign for the minimum, and exception or cap space this offseason and takes out all other options which are the most lucrative options.
He did play for the cavs. Then they sat him. They probably would have continued to sit him. Which is not a value booster. Actually probably hurts his offseason value. What’s more, what does a sign and trade matter? No one is going to sign and trade unless he shows his value during a contract year. The cavs were no longer a situation where he could do that so he actually probably hurts his value by staying. And obviously he doesn’t need to resign with a contender. All he needs to do is use them as an audition for teams… Read more »
It is a strange idea anyway, none of the contenders have cap space this year so he signs for the minimum and then he can’t get the money he wants anyway even if he is good.
Nate is right on JJ to Mavs. No Spurs/Lyles.
Dipo to Miami.
Does that meam Lowry to Lakers?
https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1375162797580034057?s=20
Nothing for Drummond. Oh, well.
Lakers gonna by happy.
Mavs land JJ Redick & Trey Lyles. 3 team deal with Pels & Spurs.
thought sham just tweeted no 3 team deal.
I thought that was for the Lou/Rondo deal. Could be wrong.
