Cavs: the Podcast #250 (or, Know When to Hold ‘Em)
2021-09-03The ole’ ball coach Nate Smith called a trade rumor audible and rounded up CtB veterans Elijah Kim and Chris Francis to discuss the recent Ben Simmons talk that has swept up NBA fans. The CtB trio does a deep dive into the possibilities (or improbabilities?)… with Nate dropping a deep cut Kenny Rogers and Michael Jordan reference that caught youngins’ by surprise!

GOOD FOR “HARD ROCK “—WE WENT FROM HARD ROCK TO TACKO “BELL ” FALL …………” MORE BEER PLEASE ‘
LMFAOOOOOOO yup, definitely a downgrade!!!
Hartenstein signed a camp deal with the Clippers. Good for him.
yup, got more money and went to winning situation… happy for him.
ROUGH DAY FOR OHIO SPORT FANS—BUCKS LOSSS TO THE DUCKS——TRIBE NO -HIT BY THE BREWERS …………..” MORE BEER PLEASE “
Bobcats lose to Dukes. Sunday will be better!
Bengals won. Browns looked great for 3 quarters.
Good for the Bengals – we are Joey fans in my neighborhood. Although I think the Bengals FO is as bad as the Browns were until the last three years, and they will waste JB. Not drafting for OL is beyond incompetent.
Tend to agree. But Chase had 5 catches for over 100 yards, including a 50 yard TD, and Mixon ran for 120+ yards.
The line play was mostly good. Especially at tackle. They gave up 5 sacks: 2 were on the C (1st game back after ACL), 1 each on the RB and TE, and the other one was a jailbreak.
HAVE TO AGREE WITH RAOUL ON THIS—SORRY MIKEO—–THINK IT IS A RELATIVELY SAFE GAMBLE// PICK UP —–MAYBE HE AND LAURRI HAD A POSITIVE CONNECTION WITH EACH OTHER // POSSIBLY HELP EACH OTHER WITH THE TRANSACTION(S)
He was terrible last season, on a lot of minutes. I mean really terrible. I hope he basically never sees the court.
Picking up a bunch of Bull’s rejects does not inspire confidence.
Pretty sure Giannis was not a FA. What better players you would have picked up?
Cavs sign Valentine. Seemed inevitable, but he sucks.
I’m not seeing what the salary is. Only one year is guaranteed, so taking a flyer on him regaining decent form isn’t a bad bet. Anyway, you gotta have someone, it nothing else, for salary matching in potential trades.
it’s funny that Koby signed two Bulls players Chicago fans hate the most LMFAOOOOO
yeah. Ida liked DeRozen and LaVine better.
Don’t forget Thad Young!!! Sato too!
Another signing who is not a wing.
Half our team are marginal NBA talents.
As a 3rd PG, a decent signing.
FEAR HE SWORD HAS SOME PANGOS HIGHLIGHTS——-LOOKS LIKE HE CAN RUN AN OFFENSE/ SET PLAYERS UP / MAKE THE PASS—-SHOT LOOKS DECENT ENOUGH ( COULD BE MORE FLUID ) —GOOD HANDLES–ABLE TO PENETRATE —WE SHALL SEE
His shot is a little funky looking, but I believe he shot 39% from three last year, a lot of them off the dribble or at long range. I think he’ll shoot in the NBA.

I don’t particularly remember him at Gonzaga, but watching highlights of him last year in Russia, he looks like he can play. Not shy about taking (and making) threes off the bounce, something the Cavs need. Pretty quick and shifty, too.
He was a great player at Gonzaga, but always has lacked the athleticism and skill off the dribble against NBA talent. But definitely a great shooter and exhibits a pretty good basketball mind.
Another 6’1″ PG.

I hate them 6-1 point guards. We need more 5-11 point guards like Mark Price
WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT MY EYES HURTING DRINKING MY MORNING COFFEE —-THE MRS NOMAD EVER SO OBSERVANT REPLIED —“TAKE THE SPOON OUT OF THE CUP ” :-)
SIMMO —-YOU MADE MY MORNING—DID A “CLF” ——-IT WOULD BE GREAT TO BE ABLE TO HAVE HIM HEALTHY FOR AN ENTIRE SEASON JUST TO BE ABLE TO GET AN ACCURATE “READ ” / EVALUATION ON HIM
SO SUPPOSEDLY DENZEL VALENTINE IS INTERESTED IN JOINING THE CAVS —YES / NO ……………………..WINDLER PROBABLY WON’T BE READY FOR CAMP—-SO TELL US SOME DIFFERENT NEWS // I LIKETHE KID BUT DON’T THINK THE BODY WILL ALLOW HIM TO PLAY MUCH IN THE NBA —HOPE I AM WRONG
yeah caught that tidbit about Windler, jeez man….
Valentine is whatever, Cavs are probably last stop before he’s out of the league I’d guess.
I think Windler is a bit like me.
A finely-tuned athlete who when left alone can perform just fine. When placed in a contest, our bodies go to pieces so rapidly that bystanders get hit by the shrapnel.
LMFAOOOOOO damn Simmo!!!
kind of makes me appreciate the idea of “game stress” a bit more!!!
I like him. Worth a flier.
Morey should just wait till they’re trade eligible and trade Simmons for KCP and Kuzma. That’d be hilarious. I’m not particularly interested in Simmons for the Cavs, but it’s highly amusing to watch what has been a pretty smug and unlikable franchise as the Sixers deal with this circus.
Is/was there a person named Bishop Sycamore?
I got dibs on it for a punk rock band name.
LMFAOOOO
I like Billy Bragg a lot more than Ben Simmons, but would pay to watch both of them.
Hard pass on Simmons. He’s shown no interest to improve in 4 years. Philly coddled him. He’s lazy with respect to his game.
An elite defender, though. Nowhere near a max guy.
pretty much agree. What are the chances Simmons gets it together and becomes great? Maybe 10%? Would probably be worth a flyer for something like Love + Sexton.
The 76’s on Simmons are like the Texans on Watson; they both act like they can get superstar value return for them as if there was not an elephant in the room. Both are likely to wind up holding the bag.
I’d disagree that Simmons isn’t a max guy, top 25 EPM, his struggles on offense belie the fact he’s a Jimmy Butler/Draymond Green DPOY type of player.
Agree he hasn’t improve his offensive game though… but I think the ability to move Love and create a competent defensive team is interesting enough to consider.
Also I’d rather have a player’s offensive struggles being too unselfish and get them to shoot than a ball hog who refuses to pass.
He is not unselfish, he’s scared to shoot. He cannot even take open dunks.
good point
TOTALLY AGREE WITH RAOUL —MAYBE 2-3 YRS AGO —A SIMMONS TRADE MIGHT HAVE BEEN MORE INTICING—–SINCE THEN SOME / MORE “WARTS” HAVE BEEN EXPOSED — I WANT TO KEEP ICE—( ESPECIALLY TO SEE HOW MUCH// HOPEFULLY HE HAS IMPROVED HIS OFFENSIVE GAME)—THIS YEAR WILL BE SOMEWHAT OF A BETTER BAROMETER ON ICE’S POTENTIAL// WHAT KIND OF PLAYER HE WILL BECOME
NOMAD bro.. we must “trust the process”.. the philly mantra, although causes gastric and GI distress (aka “the runs”) as long as the middlebury pretender is in charge of it.. simmons without good support doesn’t get cavs anywhere near the promised land.. now, cavs likely denied the visa to get into the promised land until the 2nd coming of a young athletic freak from the mean streets of somewhere in urban NEO.. just the way the universe works..
Simmons is a big gamble: could be great — also could go down the road of head case disappointments — which would hamstring the Cavs for half a decade.
Obviously worth the of chance of trading Sexton and Love and some picks. Adding Okoro might be paying too much. The probability of Okoro becoming a really good NBA player is a lot higher than that of Simmons getting his head together.
