Preseason Podcap Double Feature: Hawks and Bulls, (48 hours)
2021-10-07Nate Smith and Chris Francis make an emergency trip to the CtB podcast resort studios to breakdown the whirlwind 48 hours of preseason Cavaliers basketball action. After an embarrassing night in Chicago, the Cavs were able to grit and grind their way to a victory in Atlanta on the standout performances of rookie Evan Mobley and veteran Ricky Rubio. Nate and Chris bask in their glory, and breakdown both matchups from all angles.
The duo also gives a nice little preview look into the upcoming Eastern Conference Over/Under episode, with a couple of quick assessments of the Bulls and Hawks’ offseason moves. Lastly, Nate and Chris discuss the weirdness of Cavs’ coverage by the television networks, which apparently isn’t just a problem with the Cavs… Adam Silver if you’re listening, hopefully you’ll take a look!

Sengun is so good…. the rebounding is legit. Ridiculous over the head pass on a give and go, got an open 3, although a little better pass it’s a layup… the tools are there for a solid role player with playmaking and shooting upside.
Watched first quarter of CHI game and most of ATL game, my thoughts: Mobley’s defense is incredible – to not foul and cover so much of the court is amazing. His offense will be rough; but his movements look fluid so hopefully linear improvement over time I have been a huge Sexton fan since day 1 — but no evidence his game has improved over LY (the TOs look like something a 19 y/o rookie would commit). I was firmly in the camp of “hold onto him and pay him handsomely as the best is yet to come”, but given… Read more »
Spot on IMO, good stuff Rob.
Reddish for Sexton, god that’s depressing LMFAOOOO
DG’s passivity biggest negative of the preseason, dude needs to turn it up!
I’m afraid you’re right about Windler, I thought he looked SLOW in Chicago… wonder if the knee is cooked.
the toothpick is toast..
Good eye, Rob
All great points, feel like it’s getting likes for point 2 mostly.
Ballclubs are criticised often for holding onto a player they had doubts about for too long. Go early I say. We know, deep down, that Sexton is not going to work out as a starter. Bite the bullet and put him on the bench (contract commensurate)….ORRRRR…and stay with me here….trade him while the entire world still thinks he is the Cav’s best player.
Just got to the end of the pod. I also just about turned off the game when they aired that 4 minute long My Pillow Guy commercial. WTF? Doesn’t make me want to support the network. At all.
Has Collins made a t-shirt of that dunk yet?
I really enjoyed watching this game.

I was against starting Mobley since I believed having Markkanen’s spacing at there seems so important paired with Allen but… he has to start and play 30 minutes a game. He just oozes superstardom and just needs the reps/experience to develop his game. That said…our starting 5 does not fit extremely well together. We really need ICE to be an ace three-point shooter, which he simply is not. I predict a lot of 1st quarter and 3rd quarter deficits against other team’s starters because of this. It may not ultimately matter if we get early subs in and get better… Read more »
I think Stevens, Windler, and Wade are probably our best bets at wing, which is to say, the Cavs really don’t have any NBA wings.
Disagree. At least defensively Evan might be their best wing.
Touché, didn’t really think of him!
