The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the Valley of the Sun to take on the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Saturday nightcap game. They will be without Isaac “Ice” Okoro for the third straight game in order to manage his hamstring injury. In a bit of other roster news, the Cavs have picked up the options of Okoro, Darius Garland, and Dylan Windler.
Given the ridiculously tough circumstance the Cavs will be playing under with respect to scheduling (what’s your problem Commissioner Silver?), it would a moral victory if the Cavs cover the spread in this one, +10 at the time of this writing. The Sun have played like crap to start the season and will be desperate for a win. Hopefully the Cavs can keep them in the mud for one more game… GO CAVS!
At some point analytics have got to say Browns should never go for it on 4th down again. Can’t be a team with a worse conversion rate.
Certainly a lot less often.
Just having a GM and Coach that are organized and competent is a vast improvement, but Coach S needs to develop better intuition about 4-th down and other things.

When will JB make a move appears to be the question.
Jason Lloyd reported that Sexton’s camp was looking for De’Aaron Fox money (5/$163 mill), or Jamaal Murray money (5/$170 mill), and Cavs weren’t interested without seeing how he fit.
If some team wants to shell out that kind of cap space for him, I urge them to proceed.
IIRC Fedor reported that Sexton’s camp was open to less than 100 million, so the Cavs didn’t even want to do 22m/yr from my read on the situation.
It’s kind of bizarre because Allen’s signing looking worse as the data comes in about how Mobley and Allen can’t field a good offense, and Fedor tweeting about how teams are hiding their worst defender on Lauri and Lauri can’t make teams pay.
Word was out around the signing deadline that Sexton wasn’t interested in something around 4/$22 mill per plus incentives, and that’s about as high as I’d want to see. (Really, higher)
If that was accurate, I seriously doubt he was ever going to sign for $100 mill over 4.
The real problem is his usage. A guy like Sexton having a large percentage of a team’s usage isn’t taking them anywhere but the lottery. (I’d say exactly the same for Kyrie, and he’s a much better player than Sexton)

Well one trend I have noticed is they seemed to have completely stopped looking for Allen consistently the last 2 games who was one of our most efficient offensive options on rolls. Dunno bout tonight tho, just based off box score, but the guards should probably be using him as a screener and roller on every single possession and attempting to find him on rolls every time he rolls. He is the best paint finisher we have after all. 44 threes seems pretty darn useless when you make 31% of them because that equates to less than 50% efg. Anything… Read more »
And as to Sexton if he isn’t scoring then he probably shouldn’t be out there because he doesn’t have gravity unless he has the ball in his hands.
Rubio and Love took a crapload of shots and didn’t make many. 7-27 between the two them. Mobley took 6 shots, and Allen 3. The investigation should start there.
What you’re saying reminds me that a lot of Allen’s minutes are with Mobley and those have been disastrous offensively so far this season.
the paint is seeming overclogged when we are on offense, our O does not generate (and make) enough 3s to make teams spread out and respect. As a result our two best players at operating in the paint (Sexton slashing/Allen diving) are struggling mightily with the amount of opposing defenders in the paint. That’s what I’ve noticed with the bits of west coast games i’ve watched the past 2 nights

yup, great point…. and it was definitely on the offensive side of the ball the team has struggled mightily when they’re on the court, their ortg was around 70
And unfortunately once the offense goes in the dumper, fatigue and frustration start tanking the defensive effort.

I should say for the sake of accuracy that Allen and Sexton’s defensive ratings were really good last night.
it was only on the offensive end where they were a complete disaster.
Cedi with a great game and much needed, Wade and Windler demand minutes with their play highest plus/minus tonight on the team.
A flattering score line, but commendable effort from the bench.

Yeah I mean there is absolutely 0 reason we shouldn’t be running a 10 man rotation…. It’s a long season JB, plus we still need to see more of Windler and Wade even if it’s only 10-15 minutes a night. Garland, Sexton, Markkanen, Mobley, Allen. Subbing with Rubio, Ice, Cedi, Wade, Love
