Live Thread: Wizards @ Cavs
2021-11-10The Cavs are 7-4 right now after playing eight of their games on the road. This is the best start the Cavs have had since LeBron left. In fact, it’s actually a better start than the Cavs had during LeBron’s last season with them. The team started off 5-6 that year. Now, do I think the Cavs are going to win 52 games like they did during that season? No.
Are we going to win just 22 (25 if the season had been 82 games) games this year like last year? Probably not. The team will be in the middle. I don’t want to say this in fear that I will jinx the team, but there is some semblance of a culture that will keep them from falling to the bottom of the East.
This team gives a damn. It doesn’t matter that Issac Okoro, Kevin Love, Lauri Markkanen, Darius Garland, and now Collin Sexton will have missed time. Each guy is cheering for the next and ready to do whatever is needed. It also helps that a different man seems to go off every other evening.
Jarrett Allen got 21 points and 16 boards in the win against Denver. Sexton had 26 against the Clippers. Ricky Rubio had 37 points, ten assists, and hit eight 3-balls against the Knicks. Evan Mobley chipped in 26 points, nine boards, and five assists that game too. Also have to mention that the rookie is providing stellar defense while averaging nearly 15 points and eight rebounds every game.
This “just win” attitude has made the team fun. They can grab a W any night, even though they aren’t expected to, and they actually can’t lose every night. That’s some wordy malarkey but it leads me to this next point.
The team is officially in the stat scroll era. Here’s what that means: whenever you look up stats about the Cavs, especially if you’re using your phone or a tablet, you actually have to scroll to find them on a page .
When the team was good, they typically were at the top of lists whether looking at offensive rating, rebounding, field goal percentage, etc…The past few years you could rank nearly every stat from bad to good and find the Cavs listed near the top too.
Today, the Cavs are in the middle with a few exceptions. They have finally made some movement from the bottom, And, I have to say this is the best time to watch the team. I don’t sit there and bemoan how often Sexton will pause a drive to toss up a mid ranger because I desire a win so badly.
It’s not like when the team was good either, and I’d complain that LeBron took a month off and was still on the court and Kevin Love was perfecting his poo poo lips every time he didn’t get the ball while he was fitting out.
Appreciate the few extra seconds it takes when looking up the stats for the team today. Think about how great it is to have a sports team that actually can bring joy without disappointment. It isn’t going to last forever; you’re going to be back to judging a crappy team or great team in a few seasons.

The Wizards are in the house tonight with a 7-3 record. If the Cavs grab the win, it will be their fifth straight and solidify them as just a solid team. The team will be without Sexton who has a torn meniscus in his left knee though. They will have to figure out how to replace his 16 points, 3.3 boards, and 2.1 assists per game. It hasn’t been announced who will start in his place, but Isaac Okoro is supposed to return. Maybe the Cavs give Garland the go-ahead to gun up shots with Okoro playing defensive stopper.
The Cavs are also without Kevin Love, and Lauri Markkanen. The Wizards are missing Rui Hachimura, Davis Bertans, Thomas Bryant, and Cassius Winston.Â
just posted a recap if you want to head over!
ANGEL GRAY OFFERED A JOB WITH ESPN—-CONGRATS –REALLY ENJOYED YOUR TIME WITH THE CAVS /// YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME WAS TOPS —–MAN NETWORKS KEEP ‘STEALING ‘ OUR TOP REPORTERS
Bummer. I enjoyed watching her. Good for her, though. ESPN is a bottomless cesspool, but big step for her career.
JUST WATCHING THE WIZ—-J WALL CAME TO MIND —HE IS STILL WITH THE ROCKETS CORRECT?—ANY CHANCE SOME TEAM PICKS UP HIS HEAVY CONTRACT
Just reported today that he’s not expected to play this year. Don’t think he’s going anywhere this season. Incredible contract – making all that cash, and sitting home year after year.
JUST LIKE LEO —WATCHING REPLAY —–TOUGH LOSS –BUT THEY COMPETED THE ENTIRE GAME—GOOD TO SEE D.G. PISSED AFTER THE GAME –WINNERS HATE TO LOSE !!1—-ANY WORD ON ICE’S INJURY ?—–WIZ HAVE PUT TOGETHER A NICE TEAM—HAVE ALWAYS LIIKED HARRELL // EVEN COMING OUT OF COLLEGE NEW HE WAS RAW BUT MAN HE ALWAYS PLAYS HARD WITH SUCH GREAT STRENGTH AND PHYSICALITY —GO CAVS !!!
just watching highlights looked like defense in 4th quarter wasn’t very good especially around the perimeter leaving wide open shots. also ready that Cavs were trying to foul Beal at end but it didn’t appear they even tried when I watched again – possible he makes the shots and its tied but still if you want to foul then FOUL. still good game and entertaining. Mobely is the real deal and Garland playing very well. Cavs are still in good spot and over next few months we will see how this team handles pressure when more teams pay attention to… Read more »
Heat lose in OT…probably never should have gotten there, but that’s basketball…
5 seconds against the Lakers….lol…gives the Heat a shot…
I like DG’s disposition after the game… he was pissed off after the loss, not in his normally cheery mood.
He wants to take the last shot, he had it, he missed it…he should be pissed. No blame from me, hope he makes it next time.
RWB takes the last shot, a 3….great shot, Russ…
Tucker put him in prison
RWB gets rewarded for a flop. Thanks, NBA.
And AD rewarded for a flop. Thanks, NBA.
Watching the Heat-Lakers right now, I see no reason why Mobley can’t be a Bam type guy on the offensive side, with more skills. I.e., a better Bam on that end. And may just as good or better on the defensive end.
Looking at the stats, JB riding Lamar Stevens over Wade and Windler was absolutely idiotic.
JA and Mobley had bad games, got outrebounded by 9, Allen and DG turned it over 8 times between the two of them.
It seemed idiotic in real time…(Stevens)
Yup, he was a freaking disaster and played more minutes than Windler… complete brain fart.
JA -8.1 net rating
Mobley -20.3 net rating
The problems clearly came on the offensive side of the ball.
CLE offensive rating with JA: 94.6
CLE offensive rating with Mobley: 83.7
Even with that poor decision making the cavs were the better team. They honestly are a legit bottom half playoff team if the defense continues to flummox teams.
for sure
That felt gross. Cavs gifted this one. Game would been out of reach if they hit free throws like they should have
yup, they didn’t scrap especially on defense until the end,
Or too much? Who was supposed to be on who, because somebody left him and/or Beal open on that play if I remember right, because there was like one guy covering both of them on that side of the court.
Mobley left Kuzma to go cover the paint.
A learning experience for him and the team.
there you go, better to give up 2 than 3.
Yep. That was dumb.
maybe so, it could’ve very well been just miscommunication problems instead of effort problems, which I said was on JB and the coaching staff if guys weren’t clear about their responsibilities.
JB overthinking the defensive substitutions, guys who haven’t played with each other trying to figure it out on the fly.
Tough L…. Led for majority of the game. Hope the boys learn some lessons from this one
Opposite of the Toronto game.
Really annoying game to lose.
You know your defence has been bad if you made Kuzma look good.
Poor ending to this one, Cavs failed to execute down the stretch
yup, defensive breakdowns twice in a row to Kuzma open 3s.
WOW WTF, Good shot, DG just missed, and no timeout to challenge??? JB screwed up
Ugh…long shot, but open look…
Had to be a drive for 2 surely…a high percentage play.
yeah, I don’t mind the shot he took because it’s his shot, but ideally definitely should’ve been a drive. He was probably shooting to save time for a offensive rebound opprortunity too
Stop giving this scrub open looks plx…
OH MY GOD AGAIN?????
How do u leave kuzma open!??
TWICE!!!
Well, that was also less than ideal.Crap.
Cavs 15-21 at the line, Wiz 17-17…
Ouch that FT hurt
Ugh, 2 point game…
oh shit, Rubio misses….. need another stop!!!!!!!!!
Gonna have to introduce a virtual swear jar for you Chris! :)
Ughhhh make the free throws
Well, that was less than ideal. Give up a 3, split the FTs.
that was terrible defense someone fell asleep
Yep….that’s about all Kuz can do…big mistake
Sweet shot by DG
