Live Thread: Celtics @ Cavs, Part Two

Tonight on the shores of Lake Erie the Cavs will face the Boston Celtics in a rare, two-game home series against the famed franchise. Last game, the Cavs put together an unbelievable fourth quarter comeback with rookie sensation Evan Mobley leading the charge. The question tonight will be how both teams respond to such a hard fought game Saturday night.
The Cavs can expect the Celtics to be hungry and desperate for a win so that they don’t fall too far behind the top six race in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs will be looking to prove their hot start isn’t a fluke and that they are a playoff contender that should be taken seriously.
Due to Lauri Markkanen and Kevin Love also out, #Cavs head coach J.B. Bickerstaff will have to get creative with his lineups.

In surprising news, Jarrett Allen is listed as doubtful for tonight’s game with a non-COVID related illness. The Cavs will also be apparently missing Lauri Markkanen, Lamar Stevens, Collin Sexton, and Kevin Love. If the Cavs want to pull this game off, they will be heavily reliant upon their deep bench to hold up against a healthier Boston team. According to last reports, Al Horford will be probable for the game, and there are rumors that Jaylen Brown could be back as well.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00pm ET and will be broadcasted on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, GO CAVS!
not having Allen all game and then Mobley for last quarter kinda sunk the team…late in game too many easy shots around rim for Celtics and they knew it too. Cavs still fighting hard but they are very limited when there are a lot of key players out….the talent level drops dramatically. Again still early and team playing well. If Mobely out, Cavs gotta figure out way to score easy buckets and play good D. Maybe get Tacko or Ed Davis some run if necessary. Would also be nice if Love and Markk were back too.
agree. impressive that the Cavs hung in and made it close. If Valentine hadn’t had a foot out out bounds on his late 3, …, who knows?

Cavs saying it’s a right elbow sprain for Mobley. That could mean out a couple of games or 8 weeks. Lauri had a similar injury once and was out 8 weeks, I think. Hoping for the best, but hard to see them winning much while he’s out.
Beyond tired of bullshit injuries the last couple of years.

I dont understand it at all lol but it is impressive. He reminds me of a bigger Brandon Roy in a way. Not quite Paul Pierce in skills but definitely a slow burn
Valentine had 9 boards. Really played well on that side of the ball.
He had the chance to put us in a much better position, possibly to win, drained the jumper without flinching, and had his dang foot out of bounds. Could not believe that. overall a pretty good game from him though
that’s a Kevin Durant toe-on-the-line Game 7 kind of situation, I think Valentine played really well. Interesting that JB is going with him over Windler, must be the defense and rebounding chops, that one rip in the final minute plus was impressive
Hope Mobley just got a stinger at worst…I had one once in HS, hurt like a sonofagun…he didn’t do much, just bumped his arm/ elbow with another guy…

You might be right…but evidence points to the cavs being better than estimated and not to the Celtics being bad. We’ll see how that works out once the cavs get healthy but I would put money on the cavs finishing slightly ahead of Boston and maybe playing them round 1 this year

Wade had a few chances to make shots & didn’t — again Windler seems like an alternative but doesn’t have the rebounding chops, although there was one ridiculous block he made on a Celtics big (or perhaps Tatum?) before JB took him out rapidly thereafter
