Live Thread: Cavs @ Mavs
2021-11-29Good evening CtB!
Tonight the Cleveland Cavaliers make their way south to the Lone Star State to take on another NBA playoff contender, the Luka Dončić-led Dallas Mavericks. It’s reasonable to assume both teams are desperate for a win to build some positive momentum, given that both teams are 1-4 in their last five games. Both teams were also missing their young stars due to injury, so both Dončić and Evan Mobley will also be looking to re-capture their game rhythm.
At the time of this writing, Dean Wade will probably still be out with the calf, and Cedi Osman appears to be a game time decision with a balky back. The Mavs are getting back Jalen Brunson, but will be without Willie Cauley-Stein and Frank Ntilikina.
Of course, the challenge tonight for the Cavs defensively will be containing Luka and a resurgent Kristaps Porziņģis who make the Mavs’ offense go. One way to neutralize KP is by going after him on the defensive side, given that his resurgence is exclusively on the offensive side of the ball. Also, Cavs would be wise to attack Tim Hardaway, Jr., who’s easily the Mavs’ worst perimeter defender. The Mavs are solid favorites, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the frisky Cavs give Mark Cuban’s squad a run for their money and send him home crying, hopefully firing off some cope tweets to enjoy!
Tip off is scheduled for 8:30PM ET and the game will be broadcasted on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes. GO CAVS!
just posted recap!
Couldn’t watch the game, but basically seems the cavs are good with Mobley and not good without him. Biggest impact as far as raw plus minus. Doesn’t seem like it this game (raw plus minus doesn’t mean much game to game as a legit statistic as ad nausea). Still guy is back two games. Cavs win two games. Would guess presence impacts lineups cavs able to throw out and defenses they’re able to play and that that presumably makes the difference.
Mobley sure helps. But the games he missed were against some of the top teams in the NBA. No one else is beating GSW and PS either
That’s true.
We might have if we’d have been closer to full strength. Almost did anyway.
I think that our lineups are essentially built around two principles:
1) Keep one of Mobley or Allen on the floor at all times to anchor the defense. With a healthy dose of both at once. Both start.
2) Keep one of Garland or Rubio on the court at all times to run the offense. With a healthy dose of bith at the same time. Rubio has started some with Sexton/Okoro out, but not a usual starter.
This is an excellent point, Jason, and I think you’re spot on
another impressive win.. nice to see the big finn producing.. looks like koby’s wager is working out.. not ready to give him significant credit.. yet.. he had to act, and acted.. so far so good.. the experiment is bubbling in the flask.. the fact that they seem not to be suffering at all from sexton’s absence is really stunning.. better sign rubio for another 2 or 3 yrs..
HaHa! I am giving credit right now. Someone else posted that Dallas was trying to trade for BF and they are bumming out that the Cavs beat them on the trade.
Well, we also got some guys back right around the time Sexton went down (Markannen & Love). So far this year, guess how many games we have had with our top nine guys (DG, YB, BF, Mobley, Fro; Rickey, Ice, Jedi, Love) fully healthy? Answer? Two. Opener w/ Memphis (loss). Then Garland got hurt (1-1). Full compliment for the Nuggets win in Denver. That’s it. Then Ice hurt & JB was playing Stevens over Cedi at that point. Then Cedi was DNP for the Lakers loss. While Ice was out, Love & BF git COVID/H&S. Then Mobley got hurt (down… Read more »
Of our top 9, game by game missing/DNP: 1. At Memphis L. Full. 2. Charlotte L. -1 (Garland). 3. Hawks W. -1 (Garland). 4. At Nuggets W. Full. 5. At Clips W. -1 (Ice). Cedi 5 min. 6. At Lakers L. -1 (Ice). Cedi DNP. 7. At Suns L. -1 (Ice). Cedi breakout game. 8. At Bees W. -2 (Ice, Love). 9. Blazers W. -3 (Ice, Love, BF). 10. At Raptors W. -3 (Ice, Love, BF) 11. At Knicks W. -3 (Ice, Love, BF). YB hurt. 12. Wiz L. -3 (Love, BF, YB). 13. Det W. -3 (Love, BF, YB).… Read more »
Overall: 11-10.
Full strength: 1-1.
Minus 1: 4-3.
Minus 2: 1-1.
Minus 3: 5-2.
Minus 4: 0-2.
Minus 5: 0-1.
We have had a lot of guys out and played pretty well down 1, 2, or even 3. 4 or 5 vs good teams asking too much.
Don’t think you can read too much into records without guy A vs without guy B. I think it has to do more with who else was out at the same time, who the opponent was, and quality of backups. But here goes anyway:
Garland: 1-1
Ice: 5-2
Love: 6-2
BF: 5-4
YB: 4-6
Fro: 0-3
Mobley: 0-4
Jedi: 0-2
Forgot Cedi was out oast night. That should be a -2.

When I saw this stretch of schedule, I thought we’d be lucky to get one.
After tonight, I am thinking we could get the Wiz and Miami.
that would be huge in the playoff race.
Heck Yes!
After tonight’s loss to Denver, I don’t give the Cavs much hope against Miami. Wizards winnable though. Cavs always play ’em tough.
I never understood why people thought Dallas would be better this year. They did not add much and Carlisle is a better coach than Kidd.
Love played a very solid game tonight too I thought.
He was fantastic, probably could’ve played him more, but maybe JB’s load managing him.
Markkanen surprisingly tough, the Finn has some attitude.
Agree. I think we got something going here and he can be a big part of it. He COMPETES.
The Cavs bathed the Mavs in the sink tonight, fellas (ie, treated them like little babies)
LMFAOOOO

He was godawful last year…I had no higher expectations than that…
I had no idea he was this bad.
I want to see Ed Davis!
Taco vs Boban time???
Is Tako active tonight?
Don’t think he traveled.
IDK….just dreamin’ :)
Fall v Boban would have been great!
MOBLEY EUROSTEP!!!! AND ONE!
Can you imagine how good we can be if Okoro rediscovers the offense he had at the end of last season? And we don’t even have the Turkish Sniper tonight!
31 pt lead. Wonder when the last time we were up 30 on someone?
I think Markkanen can become our nasty player. He seems like he’s one of those quiet, but secretly angry dude. Like inside mild mannered Bruce Banner is the angry hulk. He should be the Cavs irritant. Like really lean into that role. When a Euro is nasty, gets under your skin, plays like a jerk but then splashes threes in your face and slams on you it drives opposing players insane.
he starting to play meaner, i love it.
WHAT A PASS MOBLEY!!!! LAURI FINISH!
Mouse in the house
GREAT HANDS LAURI!!!!
Um, so this is fun.
DG and JA will be inducted into the HoF together…what a pass and finish…
Dallas did not take them seriously.
Yes but also? We are kinda good
They have no one to handle JA with WCS out…not like WCS can handle him, either…
Man,that was mean spirited.
THAT WAS DAGGER
Up 29.
White flag time for Dallas?
WOW this game!!!
LAURI MARKKANEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The big Finnish!
LAURI WITH NO REGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE!!
Finnish
Luka has a triple double and they’re down 25… he’s outta there
He’d look good in wine and gold.
Luka for Sexton sounds fair to me.
Quite a Finnish!!
