Live Thread: Cavs @ Bucks
2021-12-06Good evening CtB!
Last night, the Cavs began a brutal stretch of the schedule with a heartbreaking loss to one of the NBA’s best teams, the Utah Jazz. Tonight, the task is no easier with the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks hosting the Cavs for a major Central Division battle.
The Cavs will be shorthanded again, without Dylan Windler and Dean Wade particularly, the former being inexplicably sent to the G League Cleveland Charge basketball team to play for them tonight even though the Cavs are playing their second game of a back to back. It sure seems like that the Cavs could’ve used five to 10 minutes of Windler to spell the starting unit but what do I know, I’m just a fan!
For the Bucks, they will be shorthanded as well (Brook Lopez, Donte DiVincenzo, and Semi Ojeleye all OUT) and possibly without Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is a game time decision. Just speculating but it seems like Giannis will want to play to keep the good times rolling in Milwaukee, who have vaulted up the Eastern Conference standings after a rough start to the season.
Tip off is scheduled for 8:00PM ET and will be broadcasted on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, GO CAVS!
WINDLER HAVING A BETER NIGHT TONIGHT –(CHARGE)–4/7 FROM DEEP—-THEY ALSO HAVE PANGOS PLAYING TONIGHT
I SOOO HOPE YOU ARE CORRECT RAOUL—IF SO ——-” MORE BEER PLEASE ‘
SOME VERY GOOD // VALID POINTS –AS USUAL–WORLDBFREE—-YEAH HOPING // AND TOTALLY AGREE THAT ICE WILL GET OUT OF HIS ‘FUNK ” AND DEVELOP AND YES IT IS TOO EARLY TO DECLARE HIM A BUST —JUST SOME “RECENT ALARMING TRENDS ‘ –AND WE DO HAVE TO REMIND OURSELVES –( EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE IMPROVED AND THIS TEAM IS EXCITING TO WATCH// SUPPORT )–BEST CASE SCENARIO WILL PROBABLY BE A PLAYIN SPOT AND POSSIBLY WIN THE 1ST SERIES –SO LONG TERM BUILD IS MUCH MORE VITAL // IMPORTANT THAN “TRADING ‘ FOR SHORT TERM SUCCESS —AKA” LEBRON TIME HERE AS A… Read more »
disagree on “best scenario”.
Cavs have played the hardest schedule in the NBA so far, and are 1.5 games out of #4. They are very young, just starting to jell, and played the very best teams very tough. Starting in January they have the easiest schedule.
Cavs have a good shot at #4 in East, and highly likely #6 or better. I have the over/under at #4.
I will be so happy to be proved wrong, Raoul, and I’m banking on that easier 2022 schedule, too, but I just have a hard time seeing us ending up with a better record than the Bucks, Nets, Sixers, Bulls, and Heat. That would put us in the sixth seed at best, probably playing the Sixers or Heat without home court advantage and with almost zero playoff experience for our core against playoff tested veteran stars like Embiid/Harris or Jimmy/Bam. Winning that series would be the greatest non-LBJ Cavs moment since Miracle at Richfield. Then there’s Charlotte and Atlanta, both… Read more »
Probably Sixers. I agree that #6 is a safer bet. I am anticipating Mobley getting better each week and dominating games regularly by the end of the season. Speaking of “Miracle at Richfield”, I am still pissed off about the bogus offensive fouls called on Nate Thurman that allowed Boston to win game 7. History repeated itself in 2008 when a blizzard of first half phantom fouls on the Cavs gave Boston a huge lead that LBJ couldn’t quite erase. Nate Thurman trivia: Bowling Green went to the finals and likely would have won if Nate hadn’t had a serious… Read more »
I think we have to give Okoro another year. Right now, his trade value would be warm piss, but more than that, we know from last year that the potential is there and — as troubling and head-scratching as this regression is — I think this is the best possible situation for him to regain his confidence and get back on track developing. His teammates and JB seem 100% supportive of him — maybe even too much so? — and he’s bought in to what they’re trying to build (which was always the problem with KPJ). Did you see how… Read more »
Can we send him down to the Charge for a couple weeks?
It’s tempting, but I think the humiliation of it would backfire and hurt his confidence even more. Also, my daughter, who is in love with him, would lock herself in her room and cry until he was called back up!
AGREE WITH BOTH OF YOU-( LEO/ RAOUL )–MY CONCERN // FRUSTRATION IF WE HAVE W’HIFFED ” ON ICE // WINDLER AND EVEN THROW SEXTON IN THAT GROUP—IS ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS DRAFTED AFTER THEM- THAT OUR GOOD PLAYERS AKA: SEE BANE FOR MEMPHIS ——–YOU REALLY BUILD THRU THE DRAFT AND YOU CAN’T CONTINUALLY MISS –ESPECIALLY ON LOTTERY PICKS—-D.G. // SOLID PICK—MOBES WAS ‘HANDED ‘ TO THE CAVS ——–CAVS REALLY HAVE TO WORK HARD ON DEVELOPING ICE ——YEAH —STEVENS // UNDRAFTED –IS PERFORMING BETTER THAN ICE—THE SAME CAN BE SAID ABOUT WADE// WINDLER
JUST WATCHED THE REPLAY —THOUGHT THE OFFICIATING ” FAVORED ” THE BUCKS BIG TIME –ALLOWED THEM TO “BULLY–BE PHYSICAL ” WITH THE CAVS ON “D” WHILE THE CAVS WERE CALLED FOR SOME TIC-TAC FOULS —-IS IT TOO EARLY TO GET CONCERNED ABOUT ICE —SEEMS HE HAS REGRESSED ON BOTH ENDS —HOPE I AM WRONG —REALLY LIKE THE KID –AND HE WAS A 5TH PICK IN THE DRAFT// CAN’T AFFORD TO MISS WITH THOSE PICKS——-HATE TO SAY IT BUT I THINK WINDLER IS ‘TOAST ‘ WITH THE CAVS —-SO FROM ONCE WAS CONSIDERED A FANTASTIC DRAFT—D.G. / KPJ// WINDLER —WE HAVE… Read more »
Windler is injury prone and Cavs have no idea how to use him which is weird. KPJ will still be thorn in teams side until they find suitable wing replacement (which they haven’t). Agree with Okoro – he’s not much of a defensive stopper and has little to no offensive game. Either you suck on def. but can score 20+ or you stink on offense but can shut down other teams player. Okoro is neither and its evident via highlights Lamar is basically even, which means an undrafted guy is performing as well as lottery pick. Not good.
Not sure how to use Windler? What can you do with him?
I certainly do not see as much TV as many of you do, but so far I haven’t seen any hint that he can contribute in the NBA. I would leave him in the D League for an extended stretch to find out if he can be a solid player at that level. Maybe he will get some confidence and be ready to play for the Cavs. If not, it is time to let him go.
he should be a shooter and slash guy who kinda sucks on defense…but his injuries have led to limitations and I think Cavs staff believe Cedi and Wade are just better I guess. Windler just hasnt had any chances and might screw himself over due to being hurt.
a few items of concern – one, this team gets into too big deficit holes and takes lot of energy to come back. Once they come back they lose energy and get back into another double digit deficit. This has trended with better teams so probably a skill level difference but something to pay attention. Two – Cavs aren’t getting much from Okoro (I personally think he’s another year away) but I checked box scores of last few games, and even in wins, he’s offering little offensively, despite league being set up for easy scores. Also looked at Lamar Stevens… Read more »
Super proud of my Cavs during this brutal back-2-back.
Missed both games, but have caught some highlights and comments. The very definition of acquitting themselves well under serious pressure.
DeRozan is in health & safety protocols. Should help us vs the Bulls.
yeah that’s big, and Caruso might be out too.
ball movement was great and they limited turnovers, just missed some open looks.
got killed on the boards.
classic dead legs game :(
This year is weird. I still like our guys, even when we lose.
Super likable and entertaining team…
When did Giannis start hitting contested heat checks from deep? That was brutal
this season, also apparently someone screwed up his jumper to begin with, looked pretty good when he was younger.
As in most things, blame Jason Kidd…
100%!!!
Great comment.
If thats gonna become a thing the Bucks are stacked like the KG version of the Fighting Kerr’s. Holy balls.
Great to see a team that doesn’t give up against a championship team on aback to back.
Played them tough but in the end missed too many open looks and fell in love too much with the three ball…
Still made our run, just too many guys not having a good night. Can’t imagine getting up for this game after yesterday’s
great fight, guys were in the game all night, feel like JB could’ve rode Lauri Love and Stevens more, DG and Mobley just couldn’t make a damn thing.
Great effort against the champs…needed to hit more shots early…
