Live Thread: Cavs @ Thunder
2022-01-15Good evening CtB!
It’s Saturday night and the Cavs have ventured up the Interstate 35 corridor, across the Red River to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder. The Cavs are looking to put an exclamation point on their six game road trip by beating the Thunder, which would give them a sterling 5-1 record on the road trip. The task won’t be easy, the Thunder are a young and hungry team featuring a couple of personal favorites, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and rookie Josh Giddey. Another factor working against the Cavs is that this is the second game of a back to back with the Brooklyn Nets looming less than 48 hours after tonight.
Unfortunately for the Cavs, Rajon Rondo will be out again, meaning the Cavs will have to look towards Brandon Goodwin to supply some crucial minutes. Luckily, Goodwin has acquitted himself well especially given his status as a mid-season addition. The Thunder come into the game with nearly all hands on deck.
As for the game itself, it will be a battle of extremes: the Cavs’ elite defense versus the Thunder’s abysmal offense. The Thunder do play relatively good defense, so limiting turnovers will be important for the Cavs to limit cheap points for the Thunder’s offense. Expect the game to be similar to last night’s game, with the Cavs having to grind out a close one on the road.
Tip off is scheduled for 8:00PM ET and will be broadcasted on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes… GO CAVS!
Recap is up! sorry for the delay!
Sprained MCL for KD. No surgery required. But rehab needed. Woj estimates 4-6 weeks.
Likely open up an AllStar spot for DG and/or JA.
YEAH MAYBE WE CAN CALL UP// INVITE J.R. TO GO SHIRTLESS AGAIN IN SUB ZERO TEMPS :-) AT THE AIRPORT
WOW AM I STILL SLEEPING// DREAMING—-CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW—-THAT THE CAVS WON AND D.G.’S RIDICOULOUS ASSIST TOTAL AND LAURI’S CLUTCH SHOT—–WOOOF-WOOOF-WOOF ———” BEER ON MY RICE CRISPIES—SNAP-CRACKLE-BURP “—GO CAVS —-THEY HAVE TO BE RIDING A HIGH !!!!
After a road trip performance like this, there should be a crowd at the airport.
100%
So is DG the best pure pg on the east? Defensively he was so impressive tonight…and obviously was a monster on offense.
Trae is the obvious comparison. Garland slightly more efficient on 5 fewer shot attempts. Give me that any day
Harden and Jrue Holiday are probably the two legit ahead of him. Everybody else is fair game.
oh wait, my bad… Harden’s listed at shooting guard.
I’d say Jrue is the only one who has a claim then.
Yeah Harden obviously is better. I think if you flip Jrue to the Cavs and Garland to the Bucks their PERs probably flip. Jrue benefits from the shooting around him.
But also…i have never seem Jrue Holiday have a game like Garland just did. Ive seen him put up clutch buckets and whatnot and score a bunch of points when his team needed them. But i have never seen him impact a game like this performance. So maybe I mean garland has the highest ceiling
I stand corrected. Jrue had a similar game on 2018. He has been better than I knew.
I don’t consider Harden or Trae pure points. They get assists, but are score first players.
DG can score, bit is a pass first guy. Both Ball’s are pure points. In my twisted view, at least.
Didnt think about Lemelo. He may make a similar jump to Garland next year. Lonzo is not on DG’s level. Trae is definitely a pure point guard (My definition of that is they are a point guard who could not qualify as a shooting guard based on size and skill). Trae is not a 2 guard at all. You can be a score first pg.
Trae definitely considered a PG, but no question he’s not as good as DG because he’s a chucker who loses.
Agree with Harden tho 100%.
Huge fan of Lamelo, no question he’s in the equation with DG as best young PGs of the East.
There is no other PG in the game I’d rather have, considering age and talent. Laker fans are already lusting after him. Reason #3,456 that they are completely insufferable and should have their miserable franchise relegated. Max THT, you cowards.
TALK TO EM MIKE!!!
May this finally be the game that gets JB to give Windler spot mins at least. Fragile or not…youre wasting a 40% 3 point monster (better from the corners) because you dont like to make your rotations too complicated. Swindler will go somewhere else and be another Joe Harris if we dont play him
Seconded. Another reason why I am against a trade. I’d rather see what Okoro, Windler, & Stevens can evolve into the rest of the way (not to mention DG & Mobley).
I’d rather let this thing cook and see what we have. Bring Rubio back. See if Okoro & Lauri can lock down SG & SF. See if YB can mesh.
We have our pick + 2 likely early 2nds. Last year’s draft: Bones Hyland (26th), Grimes (25th), Cam Thomas (27th), Herb Jones (35th), Dosunmu (38th). Pick well.
I do kinda want to see how Sexton would mesh with this crew. After being the de facto franchise player when we sucked…could we find a way to make him the backup pg? He is just not big enough to start at the 2
I don’t think he can be a PG. Court vision sucks. But he could be a bench scorer. If the other guard can guard 2s and distribute (Rubio) it could work.
I am skeptical, but I still like that better than trading, Rubio, Cedi, and a first for Harrison Barnes.
agree that Sexton’s best chance is as a bench scorer.
On the glass half full side, maybe not playing Windler much now will make it more likely he will be injury free come playoffs.
I do not want to seem like I am cheering injuries, because that is not my intention, but I would like to point out a couple things:
1) Our next 2 games are against the top 2 teams in the east: Nets and Bulls. Both teams may be missing big pieces. Lavine tweked his knee the other night, and KD limped off tonight.
2) If we win both, we’d be, at worst, 1.5 behind Chicago and 1 game behind the Nets.

Just such a pleasure to watch a likable dude like DG compete like that…I am so happy for him…
Yep.
Who has the franchise record for dimes in a game & what is it?
Price? Andre Miller?
Miller will be cursed forever for choosing to play with rookie Carmello rather than rookie LeBron, prime era Z, and Boozer.
same!
DG 18 freakin assists.
And with that the Cavs beat their 2022 pre-season over/under with only 38 more games to go!
Incredible.
I think I had them at 32 wins before the season, but I didn’t anticipate Mobley bein a near All Star and DG being 1st team All NBA…

LMFAOOOOO DO IT NATE
You have my permission to make fun of me.
I deserve it.
This isn’t the first game he has taken and made money shots. I still can’t believe they are getting away with him at the three.
Only 7 TOs tonight.
We are starting to yake better care of the ball.
What a game !!!
I’d just like to point out…….the whole comeback started when Windler came in.
I missed most of it (Bengal victory celebrations), but GOODNESS GRACIOUS what a game from DG.
Windler was key to the comeback, for sure! Active D and clutch corner 3s.
Windler was damn good…had the size to stifle Giddey…and he always rebounds…
100% two biggest takeaways… length on defense and the energy to rebound.
Windler leads the way with a +/- of +19–good for him.
Wow! What a great win. Coming back and then powering to the end. Killer shot by Markannen to put it away. DG just sensational.
What if Steve Nash and KG were on a team together…….
What if a better Nash and a better KG were on a team together…
I like where this is going….
Cousy & Russell?
that’s a lot of rings…
yeah, but there were only 8 teams in those days
Nice comeback energy. Glad Lauri got that 3 too good for him!
G.D. DG!!!
PUUUMPED!!!
Maybe DG’s best game ever…he carried this team…
Strangely this feels like a big win.
5-1 on the road is championship ball.
We had every reason to pack it in.
Down, what, 17 on a sgb2b? Versus a team with a rest advantage. On the road. Even with a loss, a 4-2 road trip is a successful one.
Nope. Stormed back to win it.
With so many young rotation players, I think this team is taking each game like it could be a big win. Coaches often preach this, but vets tend to rationalize “road games in January.” Their joy and energy are observable. Love is the team’s barometer–think he is enjoying this season?
They’re growing up!!!
Pure grit this game.
One of the most satisfying wins of the season, considering all the bullshit in this game…
I really wanted this win, thank you Cavs for listening to me 😂
The BIG FINISH
LAURI THE FINNISHER
Love it!!!
Right?!?!
Attaway Laur
Wowzers!
I went to search the net for Brngals injury updates and then, this!
Who Dey !!!!
