Live Thread: Cavs @ Pacers

The Cavs have ventured next state over to the Crossroads of America to take on the Pacers of Indiana in an important Central Division rivalry game. Granted, Indiana isn’t in the playoff picture but they have a decent offense, champion head coach, and seem to always play physical against the Cavs. The Cavs will have to bring their “A” game on the defensive side of the ball in order to secure the win.
It appears that NBA champion Rajon Rondo will be back in the fold tonight, which is a nice safety valve to have for non-Garland minutes. It also appears that Jarrett Allen will be out due to the broken finger, with “James” Dean Wade filling in at the small forward spot.

The formula is simple for a Cavs’ win tonight: play great defense and be patient on offense, the Pacers will make mistakes. The Cavs will be going for the season series sweep as well, so that’s a great bit of internal motivation for guys on a “trap” game. A win would also give the Cavs a nearly insurmountable lead for the sixth seed, which would be an astounding accomplishment considering where this season started.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM ET and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, Go Cavs!

Jb is bugging me…this game should have been a double digit win if not for Cedi and Love being cold as hell from 3. Can we run one freaking set to get Dean Wade free for a shot from the corner or top of the key on purpose!?! Almost all of his threes come at the end of the shot clock and he STILL manages to shoot near 40%
Executing two season sweeps in as many days is making me less anxious about the team.
If we take two of the next 9 I’ll be surprised. I think it’s about to get real dark in the Land.
This was my fear, have been looking at the mid-March stretch since Xmas as a real test of the team pre-playoffs. Having said that, DG is looking better than I thought he would be right now. If Cedi and Love can get going, there’s enough DAWG in this team to get some results. Like Ben Werth, I’m bearish on Levert’s effect on this team, but right now we need healthy bodies that can score. He gets back, we can maybe tread water.
Need Mobley to find another gear on offense during this time with JA out, but tonight was a great start!!!

I am with you in thinking his offensive production will increase and earn him ROY honors. I’m not as excited to watch the cavs play defense without JA the next 10 games. Consolation is the cavs probably only need to win 8 of 17 to retain spot #6.
But looking at the schedule that is easier said than done unless Levert comes back spitting fire.
yeah, they pretty much only have to go .500, it’ll be tough but absolutely doable even without JA.
haha again optimism wins the day. Love it. Mobes likely has a 20-20 game before JA gets back…and I wouldn’t put Garland past a 50 point 10 assist game. Even in a loss.

Everyone understands the ‘stealth tanking’ stuff is really dumb, right? I have no doubt the Pacers FO is okay with the loss, but the players have zero interest in bringing in high draft picks to take their jobs. Just dumb.
That is a downside of having a draft. The rules have been changed to try to lessen the advantages of losing, and have. I would like to go further: Give the last place team 30 lottery numbers, second last team 29, all the way through the first place team getting 1. This is a total of 30 * 31 / 2 = 465 numbers. The first place team would get a 1/465 chance of winning, the last place team 30/465 = 2/31, about 6.45%, of winning. Tanking back one place would only net you a 1/465 (about 0.215%) improvement. Gritty win. I thought the Pacers had us late third, then I thought we had it after that Mobley-Allen oop. Then we gave up the lead & retook it for the win.
Big night for DG. 41 pts & 13 dimes. On 26 shots. 4 TOs put him over 3:1 Ast/TO. Mobley huge (22/12/3 with 5 steals + a block). Lauri big. All 5 starters in double figures. Love & Stevens with 9 each. Stevens with a huge block late.
LeVert has his faults, but I hope he’s ready to return…
