Live Thread: Cavs @ Magic
2022-04-05The Cavs head south to Disney World for a spring break date with the Orlando Magic to wrap up their season series. The Cavs will be looking to take advantage of the Magic’s poor state, clinch a series sweep for the season, and shrink that magic number for the seventh seed. The Magic are seeking to lock in top lottery odds and as such may be attempting to sit every possible rotation player they have. The key for the Cavs will be playing with a consistent edge and get to garbage time as soon as possible.
As for what happens on the court, the two keys to Cavs’ victory will be transition defense and halfcourt offense. The Magic want to push the pace, they’re a top 10 fastest pace team. The Cavs need to make sure they get back on defense because the Magic will look to run every chance they get. Why? Well, the Magic are also one of the worst offensive teams in the NBA. Force them to play halfcourt offense and they will crumble. They’re a good passing team that also turns the ball over frequently, the Cavs should have plenty of chances for easy baskets if they lock down on defense.
The Cavs can slow the pace down with their halfcourt offensive execution. Darius Garland and the offense forcing the Magic to guard multiple actions should allow the Cavs to get good looks and get back on defense. The Magic are a surprisingly good defensive team in spite of their record. If the Cavs get sloppy or trigger happy in the halfcourt, they could easily let this game slip away. The task before the Cavs tonight is not complicated, it’s simply a matter of execution.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM ET and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, Go Cavs!
PS: Injury update(s)
#Cavs Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen both remain OUT tomorrow against Orlando.

Just a BAD loss at a crucial moment once again…saw lot of ‘team is gassed’ and its like every team is gassed its a long season..i think the focus is lost and team is getting discouraged by injuries and coaching staff not getting team prepared…won’t be good if this team limps into play-in game(s)…kinda feels lately like this team wants season to be over but we would all prefer they get the postseason experience…see how they respond to better opp. next two games.
THROW ICE IN THERE ALSO—–WANT TO SEE WHAT YEAR 3 BRINGS —-STILL THINK THE OFFENSE POTENTIAL IS THERE —–IMPOPRTANT OFF SEASON FOR HIM /// CAVS
I think if Okoro doesnt develop into a double digit scorer next year things will get dicey for the team…a top 5 pick shouldnt take 3 years to develop.
AGREE WITH SCOTCH// RAOUL ON “KEEPERS”—MIGHT THROW WADE IN THERE ALSO ——IT WILL DEPEND WHO WE CAN GET FOR SEXTON OR LEVERT IF THEY KEEP OR TRADE THEM—-CAN’T JUST “GIVE ‘ THEM AWAY
I don’t want to give anyone away. You always have to keep accumulating assets.
Obviously it would be good to replace some with better players. With younger guys (Ice, Moses, … ) you can hope they will take a big step up. This is possible with older guys, but less likely — what are the chances that Cedi will become a consistent strong player?
That trash Laker team was finally put out of their misery. And they still have at least one national tv game left. Grats, ABC.
Bulls lose again. What a shame Cavs couldn’t muster a couple more wins down the stretch.
Just checked the net ratings, Rondo and Brown were disasters as expected… Cedi was strangely as well, and even more peculiar it was the team’s offense that tanked with him on the floor.
Stevens was a disaster on defense.
LeVert and Markkanen were bad on defense too, but more than made up for it with their offense.
DG’s defense was terrible too.
Really no one played good defense except for Okoro.
The Cedi issue occurred in his 2nd half mins. He was lightning in the first half. His what like 5 or 6 second half mins? were a bunch of turnovers and missed shots fast in the shot clock. +- is terrible at gauging one game stats for players who play under 30 mins. Had Cedi played another 5-6 mins in the 2nd half he was likely to be the reason the cavs win. He was on fire from deep when he got open looks.
That said…I stand by choosing Windler based on +- lol. To be fair it’s his +- over his entire set of mins during the season…which I believe are substantially better than Cedi’s. But just thought it funny that I wanted to cite Windler’s net rating and realized he’s never approached 30 mins a game haha
Hornets & Hawks lose. Nets win.
Keep: Garland, Mobley, Allen.
Everything else is negotiable, including JB.
If Lauri isnt a keeper youre being silly. He is a monster asset.
Stevens is a keeper too. He literally earns his money with his mouth even when his shot is off. Communication is an undervalued trait
I also think just based on us not needing him to be amazing Moses probably should stick for the next few years as long as he gets better. That size and athleticism off the bench is invaluable.
agree on all three points
JB is actually a bad head coach as of yet. We have way too much talent and chemistry to play down to this level of competition. How could he treat this game so lightly and STILL not play Windler. He’s gotta go man. Or needs a ridiculously talented offensive assistant who can handle subs too
I think he needs a tactical assistant. I don’t think that is very common though, or as common as having a defensive guy.
Yeah I think its a non starter. He needs to make a crazy leap in performance or go the way of the dodo.
i was shocked when they gave him that big extension early in season after like 20 games and it appears that may blow up in their face…the dude just can’t handle adversity and making proper adjustments…they did hire sidney lowe as vet assistant to help him and not sure how much that is paying dividends…Cavs may need to poach from teams like Warriors/Jazz/Heat who constantly compete despite having bad timed injuries to great players.
I didn’t realize this while watching, but bottom 3 teams have the exact same lottery odds and Orlando will likely finish 2nd worst – explains why they weren’t blatantly tanking like they did the other night.
i think it was still a pretty blatant tank. Franz only played 7 minutes. Fultz 24 minutes, Suggs 18 minutes… they weren’t trying to win at all.
Don’t need to play Franz much when you got Mo Bamba hitting 5 threes LOL
Franz got injured
did he? sorry i missed it was wondering wtf was going on
Your take of it being a blatant tank still reads true. Cavs just didnt want to d up. Anybody who makes it to the NBA can hit wide open 3s and layups with ease. The over correction every time a guy gets beat off the dribble is so hard to watch
So disappointing. Losing to Bamba and Brazdeikis, good lord. Needed someone to step up and no one had a good full game. Rondo… :-(
Not to mention the wisdom of resting Mobley another game thinking you can just take this in your sleep. This is the game you need him for.
How do you let the Magic essentially lead the entire second half? Mo Bamba freaking looking like prime Dwight Howard out there. Someone named Ignas Brazdeikis going scrub fuego.
They’re gonna go to the 9/10 game and get bounced by the Hornets. SMH.
Wow, easily the most pathetic defensive effort of the season. JB also coaching like it’s a freaking preseason game.
“Coaching.” He’s been so passive and insensitive to the rhythms of the game since the All Star break. Gotta take a hard look at himself in the offseason for next year.
And Cedi plays like fire in the 1st then gets pulled?
As he did so, JB said “Tank you very much”.
Not he has been bad all year. Rubio earned him that paycheck
Yeah covered a lot of flaws. I do wonder how much of the “buy in” we were all excited about early was about RR’s leadership and JB just along for the ride.
Windler with a DNP in this one is enough for me to actually believe in the stealth tank
Might be a bit overboard. Windler has good hustle and has had a few half decent games, but not playing him a tank?
From midway through the third on (at least), this Magic team looked unguardable. Pretty pathetic.
There is no excuse for losing this game. Just terrible preparation again. Hot garbage
Puke
Serve the Magic right if this win screws them in the lottery…
If they want to win…orlando will foul before a shot.
C’mon Orlando you can still tank this baby
Great steal Ice.
LMFAOOOOOOOO WOW
LeVert giveth, and LeVert taketh away
Effing terrible game. What the hell do we need to do too convince guys that rebounding on defense actually matters???
Bamba just pulled Lauri out of the lane.
Giving up that offensive board to the shooter is just brutal…
Stevens just watching the ball…
wow, couldn’t get a the rebound.
We have a lot of guys like that.
Pathetic. I’m tired of watching this team
Only 3 games left.
Steven’s woof.
Ball don’t lie!
CARIS LEVERT HUSTLE!
