Recap: Bucks 115, Cavs 133 (or, the Lake Erie Show, Encore Edition)

2022-04-11 Off By Chris Francis

The Cavs ended the season on a high note with a wire-to-wire win against the Milwaukee Buck’s G-League squad, 133-115, thus clinching the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Let’s dive right in…

1. The Lake Erie Show, Encore Edition

With something at stake and expectations that have been raised, the Cavs were able to take care of business and get the job done. The passing and the rebounding were a sight for sore eyes, with the Cavs winning both statistical categories. It doesn’t matter if it was the hospital Bucks, the game was about whether the Cavs had a professional approach to the game and they did. Now, they have two play-in games to get the job done and get to their first non-LeBron James playoff appearance since the 1997-98 season.

2. Playoff Rondo Redemption Hour?

Probably the most important to happen in this game was Rajon Rondo finding his rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. He dished out 13 assists in 25 minutes on the court and hit two threes, one which was under pressure as the Bucks tried to rally in the fourth quarter. With this performance, Coach J.B. Bickerstaff can perhaps rest easier with the idea that Rondo is the option at backup point guard for the post-season. Rondo did not acquit himself well against the Brooklyn Nets last Friday night. He’s going to get a shot at redemption now.

3. Kevin Love Statement Game

NBA Champion Kevin love made an emphatic closing argument for Sixth Man of the Year honors with a vintage Minnesota Love double double of 32 points and 10 rebounds, with a +15 plus/minus in only 15 minutes. Yes that’s right, Love averaged more than two points per minute his was on the court. Love’s shooting, rebounding, and passing will have to be on point if the Cavs want to do any damage in the play-in/playoffs. It’s impossible not to think there’s a burning desire within Love to show what he can do for the Cavs in this pivotal moment. Don’t be surprised if he has something special up his sleeve this spring.

4. Quick note on the Bucks

The Bucks are obviously geared up for another title run. But it was a cowardly move to not go for the second seed just to avoid Brooklyn. The Cavs aren’t running from the challenge, just sayin’!

5. Next up, One Sleep ’til Brooklyn

The Cavs will venture back to the banks of the East River to play against the Brooklyn Nets for the seventh seed in the playoffs on Tuesday night, in front of a nationally televised audience. This is the first postseason game of the post-LeBron James era and it feels amazing. The Cavs have a franchise point guard and an NBA Rookie of the Year candidate getting valuable experience for their futures. It’s play-in time, Go Cavs!
