2022-05-27Cavs: the Podcast turns back the clock with Nate Smith, Tom Pestak, Elijah Kim, and Chris Francis to talk the latest in Cavs’ rumors, draft musings, and a return of CtB’s classic podcast bit “Lawn Mower Chat” featuring a homeowner’s horror story 20 years in the making.
First order of business was an extensive look at cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor’s chat with Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype to react to all the rumors swirling around about potential offseason moves for the Cavs, many of them featuring would-be senior citizens. Fedor drops a ton of names and CtB has all the reactions including a brief canonization of “St. Weirdo” Dion Waiters, one of the most beloved of recent Cavs’ lore. The legend Mike Conley Sr.’s dunking prowess continues the gerentological theme of the chat.
Chris and Eli give a quick update regarding NBA draft rumors post-combine. The league is starved for wings, how will the Cavs fare in the draft finding that elusive two-way wing?
Tom, Nate, and Chris give reaction to the elder statesmen Golden State Warriors entering the Finals picture with their win over the Dallas Mavericks. It appears that the Boston Celtics are headed on a collision course against GSW, how do the guys think it will shake out?

Yowza! I recall a game against OKC where Speights outplayed Durant down the stretch, and the pre-FlatEarther won it on the last shot, a step back three, after a dozen fake drives. A great moment in the “between LBJ eras era”.
If Walton is able to improve player development and find ways to improve the offense regardless of who is on the floor and injuries, then maybe this is missing coaching staff link. Just curious what he’s going to bring to the table, especially when he was a disaster with the Kings and basically rode Kerr’s coattails with Warriors as assistant.

watched about 15 minutes total of this game in 1st half and literally every other play a guy flops to the ground (dudes are over 200lbs); others brick threes when they’re wide open; others too scared to shoot…miami’s defense was atrociously bad. Wouldn’t be surprised if GS sweeps this Finals unless Silver demands at least one C’s win. Agree with takes below that Cavs have potential to contend very soon. Miami had the ball down 3, but Butler horked up a triple. Boston attacked the rack twice for 4 pts, back up 7.
Boston is just giving Vincent an open 15 footer, but he won’t take em.
if celtics lose this, it is a tatum-brown choke job which is good.. they will have a ton of regret, self-doubt and general self-hatred next year and beyond.. go heat.. i will enjoy watching draymond bother butler into insignificance..

I think we are still a ways away. We need, at minimum:
1) A real, 2-way SG who can shoot
2) A backup PG
3) A real, two way forward
4) Legit backup C
A 3rd PG would also be nice.

as to the finals.. miami, if they win on sunday, loses badly in 4 games in the finals.. like epic bad.. all blowouts.. embarrassing to a proud franchise.. actually, that sounds rather enjoyable to watch.. BOS can win a game or 2 if brown-tatum play the best hoops of their careers in the same games.. not likely

Oh man. Ok, house leak story to go with the collection. We bought a WW2 era brick house a few years ago, which we have been renovation hard for 3 years. Recently had the shower recess retiled and waterproofed. During the process, I get a call from the guy doing the waterproofing. “Hey, I thought I should mention something. Now THAT was a good, borderline great, PO game. And certainly a great performance from Butler. 47/9/8 on 29 shots including the dagger with the shot clock winding down late.
Got just enough help from Strus & Lowry, including a huge 3 from Lowry after Boston had gone up 97-94 late.
White had a huge game for Boston. 22 points.
Stunned by this result. Both teams with a lot of guys hobbled.
Celtics have been getting ludicrous shooting from role players these entire playoffs, and it’s super annoying. Special mention to Al Horford, who couldn’t miss a three until tonight. This game, White picked up his slack.

Some combo of Sexton, LeVert, or Love and see what we could get. Hayward is still effective, when healthy. He is a connector instead of a lead guy. Might do it for Love. Hayward is a better player for 2-3 years than Sexton or LeVert. Easy.
Hayward is a better passer, playmaker, and shooter than any of our wings.
Sexton, LeVert, and Love all have negative trade value.
Fans and media need to realize the Cavs don’t get a real NBA wing by trading a bunch of negative value contracts.

BTW, Caris LeVert has far better playoff stats than Gordon Heyward.

Hayward shot 39.1% , 41.5%, and 38.3% from deep the last 3 years on good volume. Have to limit his minutes. Not a starter anymore.

LMFAO Hayward is literally a part time player already on the decline, and the Cavs have to take back Terry Rozier’s contract in all likelihood plus pick(s)… you were just complaining about spending 30 million on a backup, that’s 50+ million on two backups… right back where they started.

I consider Love, Sexton, LeVert deals as pass your trash (get the card game reference?) deals. Trash is too harsh, but do not expect much back. All 3 can help during the 82, but age (Love), tunnel vision (Sexton, LeVert) and lack of D (all 3) hurt them all come PO time.

Re: Sexton. Don’t bid against ourselves. He is not worth $20 mil. Not even close. I am all in for a trade. In my view, he is not a winning player come PO time (high volume, low efficiency, poor D, tunnel vision).
Now, he is still young, and still *could* improve.
You cannot pay a backup $20 mil on a team that has another backup making $28 mil.
This is the worst NBA post-season I can remember. I have watched every one since 1976 in some capacity.
