New Stuff Up!
Donovan Mitchell: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/34593315/donovan-mitchell-pushes-departure-utah-jazz-adamant-cleveland-cavaliers-really-build-special
new post up!
Neil Iyer really has something out for the Cavs (celticsblog.com). Several articles. Summary: Finish #9, overrated, trade for DM overvalued, Core 4 won’t be able to share shots, Mobley comes off the bench because they won’t have a starting spot for him?
he’s an idiot
Celtics acquire Derrick White from Spurs in exchange for Josh Richardson and Romeo Langford. San Antonio sends its star guard to Boston in exchange for Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford and a 2022 1st-round pick. White, the 29th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, is averaging 14.4 points and 5.6 assists in his fourth season in San Antonio.
white is about 35% of mitchell.. seems celtics paid about the same, pro rata.. just a sad bean-eater worried about the “little engine that could” chugging out of CLE in a couple of months..
Hell yeah sounds like he’s coping hard LMFAOOOo
As I see it, we have four excellent starters, and very solid backups in Rubio, Love, and Lopez. OK backup in Neto.
So we need a couple of LeVert, I-Mob, Nembhard, Okoro, Osman, Lamar, Dean, and Windler to make a big step up.
Get on it guys!
Ugh. R.I.P. Jennifer Ilgauskas. Heartbreaking news. Condolences to big Z and family.
Sad, RIP
LATE REPLY TO “BROTHER ” BUCKAROO——IT WAS MY “PAPA’S ” CARDS PASSED DOWN// GIVEN TO ME ——WHICH MADE THE ” BASEBALL CARD PURGING ” EVEN MORE PAINFUL THAT DAY——-BUT YEAH I AM STILL OLD AS DIRT —–” DIRT ODOR “
NOMAD bro.. i have a chico salmon that might cheer you up. Also, on the bball topic, i saw sonny siebert’s no hitter in ’66 against the senators (phil ortega on the mound for washington).. pretty exciting, even for a 10 yr old
Probably not a popular sentiment, but it seems to me that Koby has done a great job. Getting Jarret Allen as an after thought in the Harden trade ( the real steal), drafting DG, Mobley ( he sort of lucked into that), turning an injured Rubio into LeVert, who at worse is an expiring contract to trade, at best is a scoring punch off the bench and getting Rubio back as soon as he can play, turning Sexton ( who was unplayable with DG) and Lauri (who he stole from Chicago) into Mitchell, (the biggest chip of the summer). Looks… Read more »
as one of his harshest critics (along with the entire cavs FO), he has actually pulled some of the right levers.. drafting garland at #5 didn’t really look smart until last year.. the allen trade was a great move.. the mobley pick was easy.. just take him at #3 and say “thank you”.. mark was a clear case of “how can it get worse? what do we have to lose” it worked.. mark had a good year and rebuilt his value.. i am a big fan of top tier talent.. it is the difference maker.. wins titles.. when you can… Read more »
Plenty popular with me.
I think even Buck is coming around!
Throw in making tough calls like KPJ. I’ve beaten this drum many times here: character, or more accurately relationships with others, matters.
TBH, if Koby got a lucrative offer elsewhere and decided to leave, I’d be borderline upset. He’s held the line on many fronts but when a risk needs to be taken, he’s taken his best shot.
I am with you. I think Nate is off his rocker with this talk of getting fleeced.
A big swing? Yep. Did we give up significant assets? Yep. But ya gotta give to get.
I think Wade can give us 75%-80% of Lauri, if given the minutes. I liked Agbaji more than most, but he was unproven. And turning Sexton into part of a deal for a star was best case scenario for his contract situation. Would have preferred LeVert + another pick to Lauri & Ochai, but the Jazz have to get something.
BTW, if anyone wants to go back and check CtB in the aftermath of the LM/LNJ trade, I recall a lot of people saying we got fleeced at that time.
Guilty. But TBF, I didn’t know that Nance waned out.
Me, either.
raoul bro.. correctamundo.. there was not a soul who said, “fantastic.. koby is a genius.. the bulls are fools.. mark is bargain, and a clear upgrade to nance jr”.. there was universal hate.. i was still in my mocking mode, so there is my full disclosure
I was totally against it, but I also didn’t know Larry wanted out.
Also, if we’re looking at Lauri with longing as he tears it up in Euroball, let’s remember that he doesn’t have a lot of competition for first scoring option among his Finnish brethren.
I was sad to see him go, too, but am more and more convinced we had to make the DM move while it was available to us!
We got one of the best SGs in the league for: 1) A guy playing out of position at SF. 2) A guy who we had not re-signed yet and was maybe not even in our future plans and iffy if he is a winning player. 3) A rookie #14 pick (who I liked) 4) Some future picks that are likely late teens to 20s. Mitchell has been the focal point for one of the most efficient offenses in the league for the past couple years, is only player in league history besides MJ to have multiple 50 point PO… Read more »
And I don’t think anyone had Markkanen as the starting SF on their bingo card. How could you?
Never sensed we were fleeced at that time.
me neither
DITTO WHAT RAOUL POSTED —–WE WILL REVISIT THE “FLEECED ” THEORY NEXT APRIL AND THEN MAKE A JUDGEMENT——-YES I STATED FROM THE VERY 1ST OF THE TRADE I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE KEPT LAURI—-GOOD FIT BOTH ON / OFF THE COURT
a ruth !!! a gehrig !! a cobb !! a feller !! a musial !! a shoeless joe !! was that papa NOMAD’s collection ?? or are you as old as dirt ?
The trade was a gamble — might wind up looking like genius — might wind up looking dumb. We will see how it turns out. One option was to stick with the existing “core four” and take a few years to develop into a contender. I would have been good with that. But not making the trade is also a gamble: key injuries stymy progress, key players don’t resign for whatever reason, they turn out not to be good enough, … , who knows?. We saw the rapid drop last year after Rubio injury. So I am also good with… Read more »
I’m with you. Got to take your shots, especially in Cleveland where you aren’t bringing in top-tier free agents. For me, the pressure this takes off of DG makes it worth it alone. I liked Lauri a lot too, but he was always the obvious trade bait – good enough to sweeten a deal, but not so vital as to be considered off limits. The risk is relatively low… in one of the worst case scenarios, if he leaves in 3 years and they get nothing in return, chances are high that they still have a really good core 3… Read more »
And Mitchell is only half a year older than Lauri, but vastly more accomplished.
i have a feeling baby mobes is going to fill into mark’s slot quite well in time..and the aussie.. if mitchell stays healthy, he is going to light up the opponents on a regular basis given the support he now has.. i believe good for at least 10 Ws more than what was shipped out per year.. not including the playoffs and nba chip game
This is why I think the Cavs got fleeced.

I sure would have liked to hold on to Lauri. But not clear they got fleeced.
Mitchell is going to be a great player for the Cavs but yeah they got fleeced.
Fleeced?
Come on. Mitchell gets 43 in playoff games. Lauri is a solid/good NBA player. Mitchell is an all-star/top 4 SG in the association.
I liked Lauri, too. And still do. But fleeced is off the reservation. In my view, at least. YMMV.
yeah. with Lauri, we had a “core 3 and a half”. now we got a “core four”.
Well I hope the Cavs are playoff bound for a long time because they are losing #1 picks until 2029. Salaries will escalate to the point where they might be paying 4 guys $130-140M if they keep the train rolling. And how many teams have held on to a core 4 for 7+ years? That’s where my head is at on this, not that DM is somehow not going to work out or elevate the team to the playoffs.. I guess that’s future Cavs problem though. I’ll just enjoy the next 3 years at least!
i think cavs dan will write the checks for a winner.. not a problem.. now rocket stock is in the shitter, but dan cashed out on the offering.. so i would not worry about the salaries.. he is not ballmer loaded.. but 8-10 billion says he can pay an extra 30-40 million for several trips to the championship.. that’s why these guys buy the teams.. it’s a game to them.. this is not a modell who needed the browns to write him checks to pay his bills..
How many times has that core four been 25 and younger?
Steph, Klay, & Dray have been in the Bay for a while now (yes, I know it is only 3).
BUCKAROO—STILL HAVE SOME CARDS—-BUT I AM THE “CLASSIC ‘ CASE OF THE MOM TOSSING OUT A “FORTUNE ” AND I DO MEAN FORTUNE OF CARDS —I HAD EVERY MANTLE/ MAYS / RUTH / COBB/ FELLER / ETC ——THAT DAY SHE THREW MY CARDS OUT IS THE DAY I STARTED ……….” MORE BEER PLEASE ” :-(
oh man.. NOMAD bro.. now i understand the man.. ouch.. put on some marshall tucker and grab a cold rock.. you are still the hops & hoops bro
good idea. I just took a brief Marshall Tucker break. I saw them long ago.
that is interesting raoul bro.. i had you pegged as a santana man.. which i am sure you are, even though you took your MT break..
Back in the day, I went to every concert, and they had a lot in 45701 land – Sam the Sham, Yardbirds and Led Zep six months apart, Ray Charles, James Brown, Duke Ellington, Stevie Ray, … . I did miss Jethro Tull due to schoolwork.
Markkanen with 43 in a win for Finland.

Amen Nomad. And it’s my mom’s birthday, RIP.
Cedi choked it at Eurobasket yesterday. Turkey was up 2 with 12 seconds left. Cedi missed both FTs, Gobert scored on a putback to tie it, and France won in OT.
