Preseason Live Thread: 76ers @ Cavs

After an extended break in which the Cavs are the only NBA team to play just one preseason game thus far, the good guys welcome the Philadelphia 76ers to the shores of Lake Erie for a prime time, nationally televised preseason showcase on NBATV. In their first matchup of the preseason, the Cavs lost by the narrowest of margins 113-112. In that game, the Cavs’ starters looked amazing especially offensively.
Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, and Caris LeVert showed that they can fit perfectly together and slice up a playoff caliber defense with ease. The Cavs will have to improve defensively despite the absence of one of their defensive hubs, Evan Mobley. In the battle for the starting small forward spot, it appears LeVert has a stronghold on the race, with Dean Wade serving as the closest competition thus far… maybe one could include Isaac “Ice” Okoro if they were feeling charitable. A couple of other names to watch are Sharife Cooper and Mamadi Diakite to see if they can capitalize on their good performances a few nights ago.

There’s workout footage of Evan Mobley rehabbing his sprained ankle, but there’s no reason to expect him to play given the meaningless stakes. Based on nothing but intuition, it’s hard to expect Dylan Windler to be on the court either… which is not a good thing for him given how he’s fighting for a crumb of relevance as a Cav and NBA player. Here’s to hoping Windler gets it together.

Every time I listen to Mitchell I like him more. He brings so much to this team besides his incredible play. He’s obviously a high IQ guy, he seems to be embracing a leadership role while still having the humility to be a teammate.

Has anyone been watching the games on the Bally Sports Plus app? It seems like whenever the game returns from a commercial break, the audio gets sped up for a few seconds like it has to “catch up.” And sometimes the audio and video are badly out of sync.
No, but I used to have similar issues in the past with the NBA league pass app. Very annoying. I’m back in Ohio now and use Spectrum’s streaming service… and while I certainly don’t like to advocate for Spectrum, I haven’t had any of those issues with it. More expensive for sure, but can cancel any time.

DG & Mitchell sloppy tonight. We were mostly cold from deep. We were awful closing quarters. We looked like a team playing it’s second game vs a team playing it’s third.
We miss Mobley, Love, & Rubio.
Still, some nice little runs mid-2nd and mid-3rd.
Diakite looking great for Cleveland. Let’s get a run going here.

Sloppy first half but some individual bright spots!
That was a great stretch of d in the late second when they had blocks by Allen, Okoro, and Mitchell. But a bad caris trey kind of took the wind out of their sails. The lone triple aside, Okoro was a thousand times better than Wade. Allen has been amazing.
Allen should feast this season…teams aren’t going to be able to lay back on him…
Fun half but the Cavs Hung Allen out to dry defensively and on the boards a lot.
