Live Thread: Cavs @ Celtics
2022-10-28The Cavs are in Beantown tonight to face off against last year’s Eastern Conference finalist Boston Celtics. As yours truly mentioned in last game’s recap, this is a proper measuring stick road game. If the Cavs take this one tonight, it would be a massive skin on their season résumé.
So this season the Celtics are playing championship level offense. Jayson Tatum is looking like an MVP candidate, Joe Mazzulla the Celtics new coach looks like a legit replacement for the departed Ime Udoka. Malcolm Brogdon has been a savvy pickup, and Derrick White looks to build on some great playoff play.
But they aren’t without their troubles. Danilo Gallinari tore his knee up, Grant Williams is suspended for tonight, and Robert Williams III is also out with a torn up knee. Obviously the Ime Uduka situation was a massive distraction in the beginning of the year. Now Jaylen Brown has his own headache to deal with from the Kanye West fallout, deciding to depart from West’s sports agency. So far it looks like the basketball court is a sanctuary for the Celtics, but will it last?
As for the Cavs, they are still without Darius Garland and Dylan Windler, but it hasn’t stopped them from establishing themselves as one of the best teams in the NBA so far, leading the entire league in net rating (+12.4). What do they need to do tonight? Get Tower City going… they had a great performance last game, and they need to dominate the game against inferior competition.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:30PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!
P.S. Darius Garland updates
#Cavs J.B. Bickerstaff says he isn't sure about Darius Garland playing Sunday against New York. Part is tied to the swelling, which is tough to measure. He said it is also safety issue and the team wants to make sure Garland is protected when he's out there.

#Cavs Darius Garland is officially listed out tonight against the Celtics. But he still traveled here to Boston. And he was the last player on the court this morning following shootaround, with the swelling around his eye noticeably reduced.https://t.co/ySlaE9Y62N

LIVE Garden Report: Celtics vs Cavaliers Postgame Show.. on ytube.. another beantown report.. kind of like a BOS CtB.. giving cavs some love and respect at 57:00
INSTANT REACTION: Celtics lose to Cavaliers in overtime, Mitchell and LeVert each drop 41 in Boston.. on ytube,, perspective from the bean.. interesting takeaway(s).. a fair amount of hate for tatum, a fair amount of suspicion about the team.. massive amount of hate for smart.. and a lot of fear of the cavs (they are built for a seven game series).. also.. hate for kornet, love for grant, and awareness that cavs snoked them without garland
Yep, the “reigning DPOY” let Mitchell & LeVert go for 41 each. Though some of those LeVert 3’s were tough shots.
Boston is possibly the toughest matchup for us, defensively. Tatum & Brown are the best wing tandem around. Both guys are too big & strong for Okoro, LeVert, & Cedi and too quick for Wade.
Did everyone catch where Boston went big with the Tatum + Brown backcourt in this one? Cannot recall the frontcourt that matched it, Kornet for sure. Horford & Griffin?
LeVert ends up 6-8 from 3. A night for the ages.
It’s way to too early to give up on Okoro but it’s also kind of mystifying what’s happened to him. He looks worse than at any time I can remember.
Preseason emphasis on tough workouts maybe the precursor to 2 runaway overtime wins.
There is no great mystery on Okoro. He has been a starter for most of his career. Prior to this year, 128 of his 134 games had been starts. He is trying to figure out how to come off the bench. He has never been a good, or aggressive, offensive player. He basically only takes VERY wide open triples and stuff in transition. With a rare cut or drive sprinkled in. As the worst offensive player on the court, you never want to hijack the offense. Plus, LeVert, Mitchell, Cedi, and Wade are all over 40% from deep (LeVert &… Read more »
I would say a lack of confidence + figuring out a bench role + fewer touches/shots (like a pinch hitter in baseball) + generally playing to avoid mistakes rather than just playing (which happens a lot with guys who get demoted) are the cause of his ills.
Plus, I think he is a two more than a three. He has more confidence driving vs smaller guys. And it is the only thing he does well offensively.
Plus, we are 4-1. We don’t NEED offense from Okoro, anyway. It would be nice, but we don’t need it.
Every freaking word. Kudos, Jason.
On-off 5 man lineup numbers with okoro would beg to differ.
if he is ever going to improve.. this group is the best chance he will ever have.. major talent.. great teammates (at least as far as we can see).. good coaching.. i hope he takes advantage of all and WORKS.. just practice.. everyday.. for hours.. growth will happen.. it is biology
GOING TO TURN ON TV AND WATCH THE RECAP—-COFFEE WITH BAILEYS—–GOOOOOOOO CAVS !!!!

HOLY SH-T—-JUST WOKE UP AND READ THE SCORE —WOW—–GREAT STEPPING STONE FOR A YOUNG TEAM—–POSTED LAST NIGHT—-I LIKE “THIS SEASON” LEVERT

Thankful that trash ain’t stinking up our joint.
He and Kanye are peas in a pod.
What a guy …..he looks better in the rear view mirror driving away
….,, I appreciate the Cavs emphasis on team, character and fit.
Win is a big story on nba.com right now.
statement by boston sportscasters on NBA version of game (catch it on ytube).. in early going, after celtics had taken the lead.. “you can tell we are going to enjoy this game”…. NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the feed I watched live. Have to say, they weren’t particularly insufferable. Concerned about Boston’s D this year, impressed with the Cavs ascendancy. They were a little shook on the 2 hammer dunks Mitchell threw down (just like the crowd were).
What did I miss?
LeVert is kinda like Cedi. He is streaky offensively. But instead of 20-25, he can go for 35-40.
4 straight without DG.
Cracking finish by the Cavs. We looked super disjointed in the 1st half though.
It was Okoro. He was a disaster that sucked the life out of the team.
No argument. His story is headed in an awful direction.
