Live Thread: Knicks @ Cavs
2022-10-30Good evening CtB!
The Cavs welcome the New York Knicks to the shores of Lake Erie for a Sunday evening Eastern Conference showdown. Even though it’s only October, this is an important game for both teams if they wish to compete for a playoff berth. The Cavs can establish themselves as a top 2 team in the East with a win or the Knicks can get themselves a massive road win against a team above them in the standings. For the good teams, every game matters in the regular season.
The Cavs are still without Darius Garland (eye) and Dylan Windler (ankle), but both are doing individual workouts at last report. The Knicks are all healthy except for Quentin Grimes, the young shooter from the University of Houston. It appears that Jalen Brunson was a smart pickup for the Knicks, they’re playing solid two way basketball so far this season. The question for them is, what’s their ceiling? This is one of those games that can establish where they’re at. For the Cavs, it’s a gut check game. They just won a big road win against the Celtics, can they stay consistent and take care of business at home against an inferior opponent before a rematch with the Celtics Wednesday night? This is the kind of game a pretender will let go, but a real contender wins… one thing’s for sure, glad the Cavs have Donovan Mitchell to steer the ship!
Tip off is scheduled for 6:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!
cap up!
Cavs at #3 in the nba.com power rankings. Top 5 in both offensive (5th), defensive (3rd), and net rating (2nd).
All this with DG only playing one full quarter, Rubio none, Okoro not making a three, and LeVert having the lowest FG% on 2s of any player with significant volume. And with the Core Four getting virtually no time together, pre or regular season.

from the ringer (on the dysfunctional and pathetic nets).. Kyrie Irving, once primarily known as a supremely gifted basketball virtuoso, can now be most accurately described as a crass, incoherent provocateur, not only prone to believing every conspiracy he absorbs online but also motivated to share them with his millions of followers, regardless of how baseless or hurtful the beliefs might be. On Saturday, as he fielded questions about his decision to tweet a link to the 2018 documentary Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America, a film that endorses antisemitic messaging, he was antagonistic and defiant. “I’m not going to stand down… Read more »
Yeah, I don’t think Kyrie is very bright.
has to be one of the stupidest thinks-he’s-smart celebs of all time.
Haven’t heard of the film, but the way the books (pt 1 and 2) / film are summarized on IMDB and Amazon are troubling.
“packed with tons of research”
“This time period is ending and the truth is being exposed!”
“Knowledge is the TRUTH and Satan’s time is running out. Don’t be left behind.”
Cavs fans got lucky that we got his best (sane) years.
CELTS GAME WILL BE ANOTHER EARLY “HUGE “TEST FOR THE CAVS —-HEALTHY CELTICS TEAM—WITH REVENGE ON THEIR MINDS
yup!
Healthier. Robert Williams won’t play. Or Gallanari.
They will have Grant Williams back.

Stephen A not on air, apparently has COVID. Or really does not want to talk about last night’s game.
someone caught a close up of DG’s eye on locker room pic and it still looks swollen shut. I don’t think he’s back for probably another week. Even with Levert reverting back to mean rather quickly, other guys just step up with Spida. This time it was Love. Team playing with lots of energy early in season again, lets hope that stays there in 4-5 months
DM has two top plays of the night.. and he’s #1!!
https://www.nba.com/watch/video/sundays-top-plays-21?plsrc=nba&collection=more-to-watch
Totally insane to have DG first off the bench for a game or two? Ok, probably
yeah!! blow the game open
I mean, Steph and Kawhi did it, but the reality is DG is the actual starting point guard of the team so I think he has to start.
obviously for the playoffs.
lot of considerations right now when things are clicking:
might be nice to experiment for a while, especially if DG is not totally ready.
and, …, Boston is up next, and that is as red letter game.
Is DM playing a lot better than in past years?
I’m hoping that he has found the right place
he’s having the best season of his career so far LMFAO
that is a couple players who took a big step up when they got into the Cavs system.
Real early but yes, mainly in scoring efficiency and overall PER. His TS% is like 3% higher (which is a lot in TS terms) this year than any other year. His per 36 min numbers are pretty similar, but his overall per game numbers are higher since he is playing 5 mpg (a whopping 39.4 mpg) more than any other year.
He had a poor PO performance last year, unusual for him. Which I think has him motivated to prove he can win. Beyond just first/second round winning.
IDK what went sideways in Utah, but I think he believes this Cavs team can do it.
Lakers might actually win their first game.
yeah. the Nugs better get their butt in gear, or the LAL 0-82 season is in danger
I don’t want the Lakers to be bad, because I don’t want the Pels to get Victor Where’s-yo-mama-at!
Getting Murray & Porter up to speed will take some time. Clips struggling as well.
Under the category of…”better late than never”
Lakers retire Mikan’s #99.
Wade was the Dawg, FWIW.
When DG returns, is there a LeVert/Wade decision or does JB stick with Caris?
It’s likely LeVert. Although Wade should get more playing time.
Expand the lineup, I would think. Wade has played stellar defense and been Klove Light on Offense so far. We don’t need to win 65 games. Preserve the big guys’ legs and give wade some mobes and allen mins to get them down around 30. The guard play should produce looks for wade like crazy when Rubio comes back too.
good idea
Agreed. More rest on b2b’s. Wade can play either forward spot or even extreme small ball 5. Neto and Lopez are both competent guys.
Having a deep team is only an advantage if you use it. We have more than 10 guys who can help. Let them.
+22 in the 4th is the Cavs biggest 4th qtr margin since 2005 vs the Bucks.
Brunson had 2 pts on 1-4 fgs in the 4th.
Okoro was the reason why.
That is his best role. Defense cooler on 1s or 2s. I have faith the offense will improve (it cannot get worse).
Still, I am just giddy at the 5-1 start. And at the fact that everyone has had impactful parts in getting us there. Mitchell. LeVert. Allen. Mobley. Love. Cedi. Wade. Lopez.
totally agree. a top end defensive stopper is a valuable thing to have.
Will do what I can to join y’all for Wednesday’s round two v Celtics… hope we get to see the return of DG….
But you know who isn’t hoping to see that?
This guy…
LMFAOOOOOOOo
Mitchell is jist the second player in NBA history to have five 30 pt games in his first 6 games with a new team.
The other went 6/6. Wilt with the Warriors.
Kevin Love – All smiles at the end
U DOG!!!!
Missed it (I had to work). But saw the highlights.
Lawdy, Lwady, Lawdy. Spida, K-Love, and Wade. Spida 38/3/12 on 12-20 and 8-13 from deep. Plus a nasty block and even nastier spinning dunk. Love matches the 8-13 from deep, finishing with 29 & 8 boards. How many in the 4th? 16? Wade goes a ho-hum 6-8 from deep on his way to 22/4/3.
Ice was +24 on 2 pts. LeVert didn’t make a shot but had 8 dimes.
Who gets the Junkyard Dawg tonight? Gotta be Spida or Love, right?
Love also took two charges at key moments. Thinking maybe they should throw a dog a bone and give the chain to Okoro. He was impactful and needs some confidence.
Hearing the chain went to Jimmy Dean Wade.
bron fading into irrelevance as cavs are ascending into the stratosphere.. just as you should not be your own doctor, you should never be your own GM
HaHa!!
and from the knicks wall.. “KNICKS COLLAPSE IN FACE-OFF WITH DONOVAN MITCHELL
By Phil Dwyer | Oct 30, 2022
from posting & toasting.. a knicks community.. “Cavaliers 121, Knicks 108: Scenes from a loss guaranteed to launch a thousand takesDid you know the Cavs traded for Donovan Mitchell?”
God, that sucked. The Knicks followed up their best third quarter of the season with a real stinker of a fourth. The Cleveland Cavaliers were much better than them last season, and — in case you hadn’t heard — they added All-Star Donovan Mitchell in the offseason. New York looked primed to pull off the upset, but the Cavs clamped down mercilessly late, and our guys were helpless.
YEP THAT WOULD BE TOTALLY WORTH THE COST BUCKAROO !!!
EVIL —AS USUAL—THINK YOU ARE RIGHT ON —-SPIDA LOVING IT ….” IN THE LAND ” !!
spida smelling rings..
signing up for league pass tonight.. i need to watch LA go 0-6..
Heh! I am on a Cavs-only deal, but you’ve got me thinking.
Is it just me… or does it seem like Spida is gonna be pretty happy here?
Knicks really blew it not teaming him and Brunson up. Turning out to be hell of a feather in Koby’ cap tho…
stephen a (espn) gonna be hyper-ventilating tomorrow..
That in itself is must see TV…
it’s really crazy cuz Spida would’ve made them instant playoff team LMFAOOO
and it was RJ that tanked the deal too!!! LFMAOOOO
I HAVE A PROBLEM REPEATING MYSELF—–I HAVE A PROBLEM REPEATING MYSELF—-ATRIBUTED TO OLD AGE AND …….” MORE BEER PLEASE “—-WILL REPEAT THIS AGAIN—-MAN I WISH HARD ROCK WAS WEARING THE CAVS UNIFORM// WOULD FIT PERFECTLY WITH THIS GROUP —AGE WISE // ATTITUDE // ETC
yes.. i mean how much was the tab going to be ? although wade is growing nicely.. at least they kept him in the fold
PREACH IT BUCKAROO—PREACH IT –I AM RIGHT WITH YOU—-WE GOT OURSELVES A VERY SPECIAL PLAYER AND PERSON !!!
NOMAD bro.. so incredibly lucky that ainge decided to blow it up.. they gonna be waiting A LONG time in utah to see the likes of spida again..
THIS WITH OUT DG AND RUBIO
mark, sexton, agbaji etc may put up similar numbers on any given night (as a group, mind you).. they are pros after all.. BUT.. they do NOT have the capability to consistently take over games via BOTH their own performance, and their psychological effect on their teammates.. that can only be done by a VERY SHORT LIST of players (both current and past).. this brother is spectacular as an athlete, and absolutely impressive as a professional..
Meanwhile in Los Angeles, LeBron checks to see how many threes his former team made tonight before taking on the Nuggets…
what a game!!!! we got a squad here baby, ohhh man!
SO IS CEDI REGRESSING TO HIS NORM ??——HOW WAS ICE A +24 —-NOT COMPLAINING –JUST WONDERING HOW
DAMN—GOT CALLED AWAY FROM THE GAME—WILL WATCH TOMORROW MORNING AGAIN—-SPIDA HAS TO BE THE EARLY LEADER FOR MVP —-WOW !!!
Dude, what’s up with the Warriors. Back-2-back loses to the Hornets and Pistons?!
Hate sleeping through Cavalanches, but love waking up to Cav wins… Did LBJ gift Kev his cryo chamber or something? 29 points in 22 mins sounds like 2016 Love…
The guy who was unplayable defensively 2 years ago seems a distant memory…
its all about putting a person in a position where they can contribute.
https://twitter.com/CoxSportsOhio/status/1586874744749670403?s=20&t=jwWkx5fhJaXubT0STJC68Q
oof! LOL
Okoro was +24.. best on the team
DWade at +20,
Mobley and Mitchell : + 18
Kevin: +16
Thought they were dead in the water in this one. This team is deep and Mitchell is playing like an MVP. We could win it all if healthy. Mobley not playing great yet, Garland out, Rubio out. Didnt think theyd be this good so quickly.
yeah they’re incredible… we’re championship contenders.
Nah. Spida is mini LeBron. Coasting through the third. Saving his energy for the fourth.
When DG (and Rubio) get back, he won’t have to do that as much.
agree!
I Second This Emotion.
KLove got another 2 or 3 years with cavs.. after this year.. then into the rafters
Can’t believe he’s already in his 9th season with the Cavs
has a chance to be here longer than LeBron, and win more titles!
One more ring… or two
Another pretty good night for JB. Rode KLove and Okoro for the 4th.
Yeah. I dug that.
and Wade!
when a non starter is having a good night, gotta give them a lot of minutes.
spida.. mr no-quit
Kev and Ice share the JYD award? Mitchell?
I think it’s all Kev. But Ice was great defensively.
It really irks me to give Ice credit for losing 100% of his courage on offense. The cavs won but he contributed to making it harder by being 500 feet away from defenders who didnt give an ish about him
they making statement after statement..
https://twitter.com/MikeSeuffert/status/1586877894910951426?s=20&t=vOvB0COt6c8MFfSWarq51w
He had some nice defensive plays down the stretch. Also a bad tov and some bricks. But that is essentially the type of defensive impact he will have to have to be playable.
He was absolutely impactful, maybe we all need to curb our expectations for the short term offensively, his shooting form looks good, they’ll start dropping.
It’s his own head. He’s gotta fight out of it.
All this without DG. Future is bright CtB

The cavs are a better team than the knicks. Surprised they had enough gas though.
Mitchell’s energy is infectious.
