Live Thread: Cavs @ Mavs
2022-12-14The Cavs are in the big D to take on Luka Dončić and the Dalllas Mavericks in what shapes up to be a clash between two playoff teams at this point. The Cavs have been mired in .500 ball since the return of Darius Garland from that gruesome eye injury, so notching a win against the Mavs could be a huge confidence boost that the young core needs.
This game should have the look and feel of a playoff game given how both teams look to control the pace on offense, keeping it a half court slog. Styles make fights and will pit Dallas’ elite offense against the Cavs’ elite defense. The Cavs should also try and take advantage of the Dallas defense, the Cavs’ offense has experienced a steady decline into mediocrity after a blazing hot start to the season.
It looks like Dean Wade, Ricky Rubio, and Dylan Windler will be the only Cavs to miss the game. Dallas is largely healthy but will be without key piece Maxi Kleber. Tip off is scheduled for 9:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!
live thread up!
WINDMILL I DID A “CLF “—–MAN SOME OF THE NAMES OF THE PAST BRING UP MEMORIES—GOOD AND BAD —— WE NEED TO GO NO WORSE THAN 4-2 ON THIS HOMESTAND—–YES YOUNG CAVS —GET USED TO THE PRESSURE !!
Yeah, that “Ira Newble” shout-out below was a blast from the past! Lol! Big picture, the fact that they’re a top 3 team in the East even when things are not “close” yet to being all worked out in terms of rotations, fit, injury issues and offensive strategy – that’s a reason to feel good.
So apparently the Cavs lately are becoming “Bizarro Sasha Pavlovic,” as in, “my defense IS my offense.”
SAM ” MY MAN ” MERRILL—5/8 LAST NIGHT —12/ 17 LAST 2 GAMES FROM ” DOWNTOWN “—I CAN LIVE WITH THAT ——S COOPER 31/ 11 BUT ALSO 10 TO’S // THIS IS THE KNOCK ON HIM—-HE NEEDS TO MAKE BETTER DECISIONS—–3-A KITE 23 / 14 BUT WE KNOW HE DOESN’T HAVE JB’S “TRUST ” AND WILL NEVER GET MIN’S……..” MORE BEER PLEASE “

What….what happened to the Bucks? Anyone see it and have a take?
Giannis isn’t finishing like he used to, Middleton just came back from injury, and Jrue’s old and in and out of the lineup… perfect storm for some struggles.
I don’t think Holliday played. Memphis built a wall around Giannis and Allen/Lopez/Middleton couldn’t make any 3s. Or really anything.
Memphis was up 15 after one and 70-41 at half. It did not improve from there. Memphis won the 3rd 47-30. Bucks actually won the 4th, depite losing by 41.
Grizz had 86 points in the paint. And Bane is still out. They have not had 1 game with their preferred 5 starting yet. Ja is really something. They are deep and gritty.
Ja had a triple double in 3 quarters. Sat the 4th.
Every time I try to convince myself I should cut JB some slack a new reason not to forces its way into my view. He basically played 6 guys against dallas and was fortunate dallas shot poorly when open…and also fortunate the refs werent homers and stopped a dallas run with an accurate review and a coach’s technical. He stumbled into the most complete game of the season by nick nursing his lineups and getting fair officiating for once. Not to mention he treated 38 year old rondo like a 28 year old and is treating 30 year old neto… Read more »
yup, have to agree.
It sounds like they didn’t play Cedi because he’s a defensive liability, and they wanted Lamar on Doncic. According to Chris Fedor.
seems like it worked!
It did…but dallas is not currently the west finals team they were at the end of last year. They missed a ton of wide open looks they normally make. I was at the game…no one there whether home or away fan felt like it was a competitive game outside mitchell going off and the cavs shooting slightly better. Story of the game coming out of the arena was not the cavs are good. It was more like “wow the cavs defense with that giant lineup was wild”. Mitchell, Levert, Stevens, Mobley, Allen lineup to close with garland on the bench… Read more »
Listening to the recent interview on 92.3 – the topic of minutes came up, and how Mitchell, Garland, and Allen are playing a lot of minutes for December. Mentioned last season with how gassed Garland was at the end. Saying JB needs to trust his bench, even if it means taking a loss in December. I hope the media members continue to ask question pertaining to this specific issue.
Yeah. We need to get a CtB activist at the press conferences!
LMFAO ok??? Luka doesn’t play 48 minutes a game???
Apparently Joe Mazzula posted scouting reports on some website, here’s the Cavs: https://twitter.com/ORLMagicMoments/status/1603584676660011009?s=20&t=zyH_nuJvQFGWRJA1i8kmig
Spot on for Sexton LMFAOOOO
appears to be highly confused ?
Does he have anything more recent? Or can he pull some Ira Newble stats?
HaHa!!!
Remember when Coach Silas chased Newble out of the the locker room and down the hall? Anyone remember why?
I know I would be moving AFAP if Silas looked pissed off!
That’s fun.
Grizzlies about to beat the Bucks by 40 points.
I thought DG looked really solid in the first half. Dallas was determined in the second half to take DG and Mitchell out of the offense. Stevens had a great second half offensively primarily because of DG and Michells gravity. Their stats aren’t going to reflect that, especially because most of their passes out of the double teams were ultimately hockey assists thru Mobley and JA. Look how many assists the bigs had, it’s pretty telling.

At home, the Cavs have 12.6 successful three-pointers per game, and their opponents have 10.1 successful three-pointers per game so far this season.
On the road, the Cavs have 10.4 successful three-pointers per game, and their opponents have 12.1 successful three-pointers per game.
That’s a swing of over 12 points per game from long-range, which they can’t hope to make up in two-point shots and free throws.
That difference may in fact be attributable entirely to Garland’s home/road splits so far. Fedor published a Plain Dealer story prior to last night’s game identifying the following splits for Garland: at home (11 games), 26.1 ppg & 46.9% from 3; on the road (11 games), 16.6 ppg and 28.6% from 3.
yeesh great stuff… good reminder he’s only 22 years old LMFAO
Absolutely! For those of us ancient enough to remember Mark Price (or curious enough to go look up his highlight videos – damn he was good!), in his age 22-23 season he was coming off the bench, and didn’t make (or deserve to make) his first all-star team until his age 24-25 season. We’re not yet seeing the finished product, with Darius.
Missed it but a much needed win. We have been .500 since the 8-1 start. Injuries playing a part, surely. But these struggles & ups & downs are what I envisioned with adding a new, ball-dominant piece.
Garland still has not figured things out. Not playing like an all-star. No TOs though? If I read that rightit is a step in the right direction.
I have serious doubts the Mavs even make the play-in.
Garland didn’t have no turnovers for lack of trying. He had about 4 plays where he barrelled down the lane only to get stripped or blocked and the ball went out of bounds. Do not mistake his stat line tonight for improvement. He looked terrible. Made a few tough shots but for the most part he genuinely looks like he is pouting about his usage and so has become much easier for other teams to guard. The pnroll between he and allen and mobes is useless right now. was hard to watch without wanting him benched for a better defender.
He had some pretty slick passing inside early. From my perspective, he seems to tire in his gameplay & decision making. Weird.
That tracks with my perception too, as I thought Garland was very sharp in his initial Q1 rotation, taking only good shots in the flow, setting up Donovan, Allen and Mobley for good looks. He definitely helped them get off to the 16-2 start (as did Donovan being microwave hot with his shooting like he is almost all the time – wow!). It was mostly in Q4 that I saw Garland with making some ill fated drives as people mention. So, if it’s true that he gets tired – could there be “any” connection to JB never using Neto to… Read more »
And 10-5 since their 5 game losing streak. It’s a long season.
Heard Cedi thing might be back spasms?
That would explain a lot.
Nice to see them get a good start in a road game. Kill that trend before it becomes a habit.
Seems like the current JB paradigm is that he tells 8 guys — you’re playing tonight. And he pretty much rolls with that unless someone gets hurt or some situational thing happens.
Pretty much. I’m not sure what that situational thing would be other than an injury.
Yeah. Like, someone could foul out.
No that’s not enough.
JB seemed like he was teaching guys a lesson that game. Hope there’s no JYD award because this level of play from everyone should be the expectation every game.
Jyd grinch! I think your dawg heart is 3 sizes too small!
Agreed. Come on Nate, Lamar and Spida brought it tonight.
Nate just waiting for Stevens to regress to mean 😄…
Circle of Trust 101
Here we go. Isaiah Mobley time?
Cedi is definitely in the doghouse if he can’t even get garbage time.
Lol Mavs empty bench and JB still has his starters in.
the defensive death lineup this game didnt include okoro. Sooooo fun to watch mavs fans exit en masse when we went up 17
i think we know who the junkyard dog is gonna be
Hopefully no one.
Strong finish by the starters. Got the ball into the paint and the big boys found each other. Book it!
This kind of performance makes that loss against the Spurs all that more frustrating
I stand corrected, didn’t notice Garland was out. Way to shut em down!
What a game, go Cavs! Lamar Stevens redemption tour baby !!!!
So much better with Garland out of the game . sad but true
That’s game! Unload the bench.
LeVert should have dunked that!
LoLuka flop!
Big2Big!!!!
I think we got this!
Wow. LAMAR big bucket.
Stevens making me eat my words.
Thank you Stevens!
YES SPIDA!
Caris again!
Gotta guard Wood!
Nice work LeVert
I think JB should shorten his lineup to 6 players /s
Why stop there?
have we made a 3 in the second half?
Cavs needed a blow. Not chasing down rebounds.
short lineups, guys get tired, struggle to run down rebounds
Get a damn rebound
LaVert looking more like himself with that jumper in the lane
Gotta stop Fouling. Otherwise solid.
Cavs have more post-up guys than any team in the league.
Doncic with 4 fouls
Luka gets so many bullshit fouls
BS foul against Mobley.
Good close to the quarter. Luka is going to get his, he’s too good not to, but you gotta make him work and you got to take away everyone else. Let him be a hero and we win.
cedi looking healthy on the bench. gonna need some bench mins – played the starters most of the 3rd
That was their worst quarter, but they still lead by 15.
