Live Thread: Bulls @ Cavs
2023-01-02Good evening CtB and welcome to 2023!
The Cavs host the Chicago Bulls along the shores of Lake Erie to wrap up their home and road back to back series. The Cavs were able to grind one out last game 103-102, and will have to do the same tonight in the absences of Evan Mobley and Darius Garland again. Beside the obvious suspects, the Bulls will be missing key rotation player Javonte Green due to injury.
#Cavs Darius Garland and Evan Mobley are OUT tonight against Chicago Bulls, sources tell @clevelanddotcom. It will be their 2nd consecutive missed game. Sources say Cavs will go with same fill-in starters as Saturday night — Caris LeVert and Kevin Lovehttps://t.co/dP43D82SLl

Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, Go Cavs!

GOOD ONE BUCKAROO——–WOW WHAT A “CONTRASTING ” NIGHT IN SPORTS LAST NIGHT—SPIDA’S EPIC PERFORMANCE AND THE SUDDEN TRAGEDY WITH HAMLIN // PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU/// FAMIILY !!!
the bulls woke up with rashes all over their bodies.. they thought it might be bedbugs, but their trainer said, “nah, you are all covered in spida bites”
Hahaha.
What a difference a couple of days make. DM looked really bothered by Caruso and generally out of it on Saturday night. Comes back and goes supernova!
Anyone still wishing for a do-over on the trade? Wow!!!
Mitchell is a guard, and a small one at that. He takes a lot of 3s. Players like that are gonna be higher variance than guys who get to the basket/FT line more, and shooter a higher percentage of shots on higher percentage shots. Giannis, Durant, LeBron, Jokic, Embiid, Davis, etc. So there will be some clunkers. And Spida has a bit of Kobe/ball-hogging tendencies sometimes.
On the other hand, there is no reliable post-up scorer on the team. And DG is a bit wobbly as a lead sled dog some nights. More than Mitchell.
But we have a lead sled dog guy. Certainly in contention for the best combo guard in the league (Booker). Or best 2 guard (Booker, Brown, Klay).
Again, we now have to see if our defense can remain elite with Spida/DM in the backcourt. We have to find ways to make the offense better with a Mobley/Allen frontcourt. We need to work on developing our younger players (Mobley, Okoro, DG, etc). We need to work on improving team chemistry (especially DG/Mitchell & Mitchell unlocking the bigs better). We need to integrate Rubio into the rotation. We need to try to find a solution at SF (we may not have one, or it could be matchup/hot hand dependent). JB/coaches need to up their game on OOTO and rotational… Read more »
A lot to do in the next month and a half.
Still say we are a rung below true contender status, but I think if the internal development & chemistry pieces go our way, we can get there soon with this core.
This is not our year. There is a lot of parity in the league at our level, but I think we’re pretty clearly a rung below BKN, MIL, BOS in the east, especially in a 7 game series. Question is can our guys ‘catch up’ by next year or the year after?
I just think Donovan, although “smallish,” is more sturdily-built and athletic than some other players his height and can more reliably carry the offense as needed. Garland can drop 50 on a given night but you would not want him sustaining that usage too long due to the physical wear and tear. Cavs still need to work on countering teams that commit all out to blitzing Donovan down the stretch.
Mobley is the best bet for that
If Mitchell stays then it’s worth it.
Have been traveling on holiday. Logged on to see Donovan’s face spread across the internet for some reason.
Now for the replay!
watched the highlights a couple times. I think 100% of jump shots were swishes!
Just beautiful.
This game puts Koby and JB in hot seat to get Mitchell the help he needs to win a championship. Mitchell is keystone, everyone else need to perform or Koby needs to consider them a trade asset. Excited for Rubio and Wade to get healthy, but other Cavs need to get hungry. Donovan has the talent to win at least one championship. so excited for next 3-5 years of CLE basketball. DM is an inspiration. Cedi needs to start…like really needs to start Love Love JA steady steady Mobley needs to get bigger, literally just gain mass, then it’s GG.… Read more »
great thinking! lets blow up the team right when things are starting to roll!
Not at all what I was saying. Think the players we have can be a championship team.
But Koby should only view Donovan as untradeable.
remember Colovito and Warfield?
It’s insane to think 22 year olds Garland and Mobley are tradable. Making basically any move involving those two or Allen would be so stupid.
Can’t trade Garland, Mobley, or Allen unless it is for someone named Luka.

I know I’ve read this question.. on our ATO plays/scoring.. just saw this stat.

did you hear that DM had 71 tonight?
https://twitter.com/OptaSTATS/status/1610120055622180867?s=20&t=vuulV6qvh5ishCKlSnwTNA
This is even more amazing.. I was wondering how much points we got from his 11 assists.. great find..
I heard or read some where 99 total, second only to Wilt!
DM and Luka leading the NBA in another category — intentional FT miss + putback!
wow!
ROLO—TWEET OFTHE NIGHT—-ME AND SPIDA COMBINED FOR 72 PTS🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Top shelf!
Once RoLo and BrLo were guests on “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me”. They were like a comedy team.
The NBA recap started the game at 21-12–too much to show late!
Screenshot this for the memories..
Cavs got a game every other day for the next 2.5 weeks (with another west coast trip).
That he had the energy in OT to go coast to coast past lavine and DeRozan was insane.
That speed though! Then he contorted his body somehow to scoop that lay in
Cedi played well, Love was serviceable and a menace on the boards. LeVert couldn’t throw it in the ocean. JA was big down the stretch.
All time record in Cleveland was 69 by Jordan. Talk about exorcising a ghost.
Nate, great note. That’s a cherry on this ice cream for sure. When another team’s player holds the high mark in your building–and it’s Him–I would have taken it in a loss.
Austin Carr holds the record for the Convo in Athens!
love it!
DeRozan had 44 and it’s like a big nothing, haha. Cavs stole two from them in a row. Kind of thing that could change their franchise. Chicago had turned it around. Time to blow it up and give us a wing.
Not sure LeVine fits here. DeRozen, maybe…
Fewest fg attempts by 4 to get to 70-plus points. Pretty darn amazing.
3PT line a factor there, but that has been around for 40+ years.
Still, 71-8-11 on 22-34 FGs, 20-25 FTs, and 7-15 from deep. Leading us back from a big early defecit. The FT miss/board/putback to get us to OT. Then taking over in OT.
Utterly epic.
DM’s shot chart.
THATS RIGHT MR CAVALIER CEDI IS THE MAN!!!
“The drive”
“The fumble”
“The Putback”
Historic night ,and finally in a good way.
I’m glad I was able to tune in tonight and missed Saturday’s game.. this was worth it.. frustrating 1st half but great 2nd half and overtime.

haha! is that real?
Crazy crazy crazy
DAMN I MISSED 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬—-will WATCH REPLAY TWICE WITH MORE 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺PLEASE UFB—-SPIDER MVP
NBA Champion Kevin Love 12/17 double double
Think Donovan deserves a podcast where y’all gush for 2 hours on how he’s slightly better than Sexton.
I mean, maybe in astronomical terms.
The Anromeda Galaxy is slightly beyond the Milky Way.
haha! who was the guilty party on that one?
so i guess sexton would have had what – 64?
Post of the night.
Cavs don’t really need him to score 71 every night….45-50 will do…
71!!! Just wow
But efficiently too!
exactly.. after going 3-10 from 3.. went 4-4 from the 1:30 in the 4th and OT to close out the game..came up so clutch the entire game but especially to close it out.
whats crazy is i tuned back in just before he crossed 50… and he ended with 71
JYD should go to Robin Lopez for giving space for that rebound at the end of regulation haha
71 gg ez
Just epic absolutely mind blowing
The free throw put back. THE PUT BACK!
so sad i had to listen to that with the bulls announcers. even at the end ‘not trying to take away – but the fouls called on the bulls were ridiculous’. wish i could have heard the cavs homers
50 min tonight for Donovan. .. almost scored half of our points 71/145.
more like 49:48!
and outrunning everyone at the end!
Wow!!!!
MVP MVP MVP!!!
Wonder who will get Junkyard Dawg?
hahahaha nice one!
Amazing
