Live Thread: Cavs @ Timberwolves
2023-01-14The Cavs have a chance to turn this five game swing into a winning road trip, tonight. They head to Minneapolis to face a T-Wolves team nursing a lot of injuries. Minnesota beat Phoenix last night on the front end of a home back-to-back, and in addition to KAT being out, Anthony Edwards, Kyle Anderson, and Taurean Prince are all questionable. While Mitchell is also questionable for the Cavs, I feel like this Tweet from 5:20 is telling us he’s going to play.

That’s a fairly healthy roster for the Cavs, who had a scintillating fourth quarter against the Blazers.
Let’s hope Cleveland doesn’t play down to their competition and lets Rudy and D’Angelo Russell be thorns in their side like they’ve been in the past. Minnesota also seems like a place where January road trip shitgiving goes to die.
Converselely, you gotta feel like Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen would want to put up big numbers with All-Star voting looming, and Mitchell looks to be a lock. It will also be homecoming of sorts for Ricky Rubio who started his career with Love in Minnesota, and was a T-Wolf again before being traded to Cleveland. He and Love always seem to want to play well in the NBA’s most frigid city. Should be a good one! Go Cavs!

If DM is not playing or is playing but not well there’s really no one else who REALLY steps up. Everyone just plays like they would if DM is on the floor. That’s why we need to understand there’s some limit to the guys…Allen will only give so much…Garland is still another year from really taking his game another level…and of course Mobely is another year from that as well…then when you have Okoro/Stevens/Love not doing much and no one else really stepping up, this is what happens. Don’t know how you beat Blazers but not Wolves.

Turns out we have one transcendent player. But we are not an elite team yet. The execution outside of mitchell heroics and iso ball sometimes working is bush league. This was a downright embarrassing loss.
Terrible loss, even for a road game. This crappy Wolves team with their size and athleticism seems to bring out the worst in the Cavs.
Cavs just looking road weary and ran out of gas. Mitchell sick. And KLove and Cedi non factors again other than being defensive liabilities.

Plus, we are very perimeter oriented. Our best scorers are both 6’1″. No post up threats. Lot of big swings with a lot of jumpers.
