Live Thread: Cavs @ Knicks
2023-01-24Whelp. The Cavs are ready to unleash the lethality of a fully operational Death Star. For the first time, maybe all year, the Cavs are healthy with Dean Wade healthy and Donovan Mitchell giving his sore groin a go.
For the Knicks, Mitchell Robinson is out, Cavs Killer Quickley is available, and Evan Fournier is out for “personal reasons” (probably revolving around the fact he sucks and is currently on one of the NBA’s worst contracts).
This is a must win for the Cavs who currently sit 5th in East with the Knicks nipping on their heels at 7th with a 25-23 record. It would be nice to build some momentum going into the all star break, and you can be sure that your friendly neighborhood Spidaman had this game marked on his calendar. Personally, I’m hoping for a show in front of Mitchell’s home town team.
LT up!
Mitchell/Love out tonight

Word.
the mouthguard is the main thing making Steph look like a jerk
NEXT 2 GAMES ARE GAMES WE SHOULD WIN //NEED TO WIN //WILL BE MORE DIFFICULT WITHOUT SPIDA//HAWKS AND KNICKS ARE GAINING GROUND
OKC will be tougher due to b2b and they are 7-3 in their last 10 games.
Houston “should” be a layup. They have the worst record in the league and are 1-9 in the last 10 games.
So Cavs will be down double digits midway through the first. Got it. jk, jk, but for real too…
Probably so…

Big mistake playing DM yesterday. He probably insisted because that is his home gym.
Big surprise. Draymond now leads the league in technical fouls.
The commissioner needs to grow a pair and suspend that jerk for a couple months. And the team should get docked a couple draft picks for covering it up when he beats up someone at practice.
Having said that, I want to point out that Draymond is a smart, witty, and entertaining guy on his podcasts (or whatever they are). But he would be a better person if someone would crack down on him and tell him to cut out the crap.
Cavs currently a 7.5 point favorite tomorrow night vs the Rockets. No Kevin Porter Jr. It’ll probably be a close game, and hopefully we can figure out how to turn it into a win.
If that is a loss…..not good. No excuses to lose to that team.
Aldama such a great pick up for the Grizzlies
Philly beats Brooklyn so the Nets lead is only a game ahead of the Cavs.
RAOUL GREAT STORY ABOUT ” WALKING THE DOG “—THANK YOU ——-THE NEXT TIME THE MRS NOMAD TELLS ME TO ” GO WALK THE DOG “—I WILL ROLL A BASKETBALL ACROSS THE LIVING ROOM——-” MORE BEER PLEASE ” !!
“Walking the dog” is a great name for that!
” ELDER ” MOBLEY HAVING ANOTHER GOOD NIGHT —16 // 3 AT HALFTIME —-MENTIONED BEFORE—THINK RIGHT NOW HE WOULD GIVE US BETTER MIN’S THAN LOVE ——MANY ON THIS BLOG—ME INCLUDED —HAVE POSTED TO SIT/// REST LOVE —-BOTH FOR HIS PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ASPECTS
RAOUL—-THINK HE COULD —CEDI—-GOTTEN SOME OF LOVE’S MINS AND STEVENS—-3MIN’S –YOU AREN’T EVEN BREAKING A SWEAT// INTO THE FLOW OF THE GAME —-RIGHT NOW LOVE IS THE ONE THAT SHOULD BE GIVING UP MIN’S AS HE ISN’T REALLY BRINGING ANYTHING TO THE TABLE —–MAN I WAS HOPING WE COULD GO ON A LITTLE WIN STREAK—-NOW I AM CONCERNED –WITH SPIDA OUT —THAT COULD BE REVERSED AND WE COULD POSSIBLY GO ON A LOSING STREAK—HOPE I AM WRONG
I’m curious about Cedi’s defensive advanced stats. Jason, CLF and the rest of the CtB stat monsters, what’s the lowdown? Is that why his time is dwindling, especially as Okoro trends upward.
very interesting:

IF THIS IS A ‘PERSONAL ‘ THING WITH JB// CEDI—MORE JB—-THEN KOBY NEEDS TO STEP IN // ADRESS IT —MAKE A DECISION–AND MOVE ON —–TOTAL BS CEDI GOT ONLY 3 MIN’S OF RUN TIME LAST NIGHT
who would you have put him in for? Love is the only one who should not be playing. Rubio had a lousy night, but 100% of CtB people have been saying “As soon as RR gets back, … “. If he is healthy, you have to work him in.
I think most people were excited about getting the team to “full strength” and seeing how the team could grow. Full strength, however, can get messy when your minutes distributor/game day decision-maker has an obvious weakness on how to use the personnel.
Will someone please explain to me wtf we insist on playing a slow-it-down half-court offense when we have two lightning-quick guards who are excellent passers, a pair of highly-mobile big-men, a bunch of guys who are often better scorers when they’re running the court and attacking the rim (Ice, Cedi, LeVert, Stevens) and a pair of backup guards who are super-skilled distributors?? I suppose that our 11th-ranked offense suggests that something about it is working — and I get that slowing the game down overall contributes to maximizing our strengths for our 2nd ranked defense — but there are so… Read more »
I think it helps with our defensive rating somehow 🤷♂️
To get JA and Mobley involved in the offense takes time, they have to get from the defensive baseline to where they can establish position at elbow or the block. It is of course situational, you want to fast break on a steal, block…. But in normal play bigs have to run the entire court, guards are usually only going foul line to foul line. The Cavs are big centric where most of the league is guard and wing dominant.
Great insight. I guess my only counter to that would be… why not use JA and EM as trailers? If the guards/wings can’t score, the big men are crashing in behind them for the pocket pass or to get the rebound. This seems to work pretty damn well when do it (JA easy dunks, EM striding through the paint like a gazelle in two steps).
It’s a mixed bag, but most of the better teams are slower in pace. Memphis and the warriors play at a very fast pace, but again both of those teams are guard centric.
frustrating to lose all these games. but garland is learning to close, we got mobley in some great spots at the end in the offense, okoro has become a good starter and shut brunson’s water off. i it’s extremely butt to lose a bunch of 1-2 possession games, but the fourth quarter offense was much better. it wasn’t super creative at the end but “give the ball to your best guy, get a butt defender switched on him and let him cook” is…kind of what every team does in nut-cutting time, and basically was our whole 4Q offense from 2014-2018.… Read more »
